Very nice refurbishing project. I really like how they engineered the variable speed foot pedal to use coiled wires to work like resistors as a slider goes over them. Clever design since it was probably built before high powered solid state devices... Thumbs Up!

The bearing looks to be a sintered bronze bush. Sintered bronze has a porous structure which allows it to 'absorb' oil which would have been supplied from the surrounding felt wad. There is probably a small port adjacent to the end bearing to add a few drops of fresh oil periodically.
