The funeral director up home that I hung out with as a teenager got a call one night. A young man had run his corvette up under the rear end of a semi. Even the state trooper threw up. They had to jack the trailer up to get him out. Once back at the funeral home the parents asked was there anyway to view him. Small town. My friend got the local beautician out of bed and she helped him go through discarded hair. He had been through a course like this one in Chicago. He worked hours non stop. With reconstruction and placement as well as lighting the parents got their viewing. You morticians and directors are unsung heroes
I have serious respect and admiration for Morticians with what they have to do and the skill involved, along with how emotional it must be sometimes especially with how someone may look coming into your care. Kari, you guys are great.
Hi Kari! Thank you for another fascinating video! So interesting! I think I'll have trouble drilling into skulls cos I'll be terrified of causing pain. You've also got me motivated to play with my clay too, so thank you!
This may be a dumb question, but what if the skull was cracked but the person still had hair? My friend was hit by a train a couple weeks ago and she had an open casket funeral. I’m just so fascinated in the work morticians do now because I was shocked at how good she looked. I couldn’t tell if it was her real hair or a wig though, so I’m curious how/if you work around it
Love these videos, learn such a lot,the clip I have never seen before. Breaking the skulls wasn't easy, taking a piece out must have been challenging! ... Roll on Part 3 ...
Very interesting video Kari, just to see how everything is tested so that it can also be more prepared for it to all come together in restoration! So what do you do with a body if you cannot restore it's skull but is do for a wake or viewing?
I had to hand make calvarium clamps for my model skeleton "Romeo" who loves to pop the top of his skull off 💀 since you can't buy this stuff unless you're in the industry.
I'm really surprised that a uv resin or polymer isn't used to fill in the parts of the head and face Sounds morbid but some people don't have a face left with such tragic accidents
