I probably would have opted for a nut and bolt to hold the handle on, once that box is full of weight that will be alot of stress on that single rivet.

Blue Hammerite is my favorite for painting tools & stuff ^-^ Considering the low cost of a new similar toolbox, its not really worth the effort shown here. However thats not the point, this is about the joy of bringing new life to your companion in all your project works. I still have my first toolbox ever, exactly the same type as shown here, its been my faithfull project companion for some 40 years now. Would be a great project to restore, thanks for the video and inspiration !

Using aluminium pop rivets for moving parts is not a good idea,will hold not long time.

Cool project the old box looks new and it will outlast any new plastic tool box out there. As far as paint with a brush You did a great job the paint is thicker than using a rattle can paint just let it set up good before using it. Stay awesome .

for your trial update, normally this type of toolbox, when it's closed and you push the handle down to the toolbox needs to open. on the contrary when pulling it upwards with the weight of the tools carrying it about to close For that reason is designed to work

I'm gonna try to not be to critical of what u did. It really wasn't a restoration. More of a face lift to get a desired finish. That tool box was in great shape when u started. But over all u did a good job and it does look great.

I have a toolbox very similar to this (the handle armature is different) that was made in Poland in the 1980s. I bought it at Bob's Liquidation Sales in Anchorage, Alaska in 1986.

Cheers for that, I have a rusty toolbox sitting in the back of the van that I'll now restore after seeing this.

Where ever you find these around the world they are mainly blue, I have seen a couple of red ones but they were newer I think! that tool box looks great

You're restoring something that's perfectly OK. it's a tool box its supposed to look a bit knocked about.

The bottom of the boxes from the inside had to be rubberized.
