I feel for you Pete in the heat.. hope you are coping alright. The mowers are coming along well and I am enjoying every minute of content. I have a little utility with a 160 and G4 carb... it's in pieces at the moment waiting for bearings and seals,gaskets etc etc. I too got it from my old neighbourhood off the council verge,apart from being worn out, it is still all original with nothing missing and I will do it up to use here out in the bush. I have always loved mowers and I used to be the go to person for repairs etc. Anyhow Pete, take care in the heat and I'll catch you later, cheers, Rach

I remember back in 85 when i used to recondition these for a job and once the powertoque engine hit the market Victa decided to stop production of the replacement crank pin for the older engines as this was the one part you couldn't get new anywhere else and couldn't use second hand - this was to kill off the second hand / reconditioned market - these used to sell like hot cakes as they were 1/2 the price of a new mower and came with a 12 month warranty . The main weak points on a Victa were the catcher, the deck height adjuster lever and the the governor gears on the G3 carb - other than that they were bullet proof if you fed them clean air and fuel !

i cant believe the blade drive part which fits onto the tapered section of the shaft came off so easily. ive had them in a press to remove them and its like a huge bang when its lets go.

Have to say i'm impressed with the build quality of those old victa's quite similar to the old British seagull outboards, very basic but go on for years .

Well, I never knew that about metho! I’ll certainly have to put that to use. 39° weather in a tin garage is hell, it was similar when I was working on my Camry at my grandparents’ place a couple of summers ago.

Hi Peter. How many hot days have you had? We have just had a cool few days after a month of 42 plus every day for last month. We get long hot dry summers over in the west. Only get rain if a cyclone comes down from the north which isn't often. Enjoy our warm weather hehehe. Love the video's. Can't wait for the CB750 completion.

Hi the cranks are the same in the 160cc & 125cc only the con rods different older 160 cc used the full crank with 17mm seal . Have seen cranks with a mix of bob weight & full round

Those old bearings look fine to me, if your building a rear-wheeled ball-bearing billy cart!

peter i have seen a few twin su carby's for sale here in Adelaide is that something you would be interested in for either of the 1600 or the other chook shed finds?

My garage is plastered and insulated and it's still a stinker to work in when it's a 42 million degree day in Melbourne town. Yours is all tin, I don't know how you do it.

You should not have circlips,on gudgeon pins a you had it at 34.04, the thang should be at the top or the bottom , ( vertically) and not horizontally, as the up and down motion of the con rod can make the circlips open up, and come out of the groove in the piston, next stop the side of the cylinder wall, game over .

I would be worried replacing stuff on these engines that are good. Cheap bearings in 2021 are probably not the same quality of the bearings that are in these engines. If they are good, they will probably outlast any modern inexpensive bearing made in China today.
