Hi Sean, The well looks lovely again. Everything we don't want to grow grows fast! The newts and insects will find new habitats. We had 3 cats at one time. We used the weekend water and food feeders. It worked well for us. They cost about 15 dollars each 10 years ago. Another idea is to use a dog dish that is for a large dog. They are big enough to drink from that. Ours is ceramic and heavy and works well. ❤
Regarding the cats tipping over their water bowls, it's a well-known fact that IF the World was flat, the cats would tip everything over the edge......☺🐱🐱🐱😄
You can store rainwater in large commercial butts fed directly from your gutters, placed behind your existing wood shed. Perhaps cover the new water feature with chicken wire and add a few goldfish...
Mom Nature provides you will more than enough fresh water. Get a 10,000 gallon tank in a position where you can filter roof runoff into the tank. Then it's just a matter of installing filters to make the water drinkable. You can also attach hoses for watering. And don't forget to locate a hot tub near by.
Sean in the States they use barley straw which help keep the water clean in small ponds. Basically barley stems. They put the stems wadded up in a net bag and let it float.Goos luck. The moving water should help a lot too.😅
You might try using barley straw in the water. We used to use it for our little pond to keep the algae down, it works really well and won't hurt any critters that might nibble it. As for plants, I'd put rushes for height, lily pads or frogs bit which looks like miniature lily pads and some salvia. I know there are varieties of lily pads that are cold tolerant which is likely what you need in your area. It really all comes down to what you can find unless you want to buy from a website.
I love the little fountain you fixed, nothing like the sound of running water, of course it drives a person crazy when you are trying to sleep. Kathy USA 🇺🇸
The sounds of the water running will keep you awake until you get used to it. LOL The well area looks great. I'm sure there are weighted cat bowls you can buy so the kitties won't spill their water all the time.
Sean! With all that rain that you seem to have there , it’s no wonder that everything grows so fast and thick. Your country seems almost as wet as Ireland! I like the square pots on either side of the settee. They are very pretty looking.
Now, a whispering fountain for Hercules and Lady Sam's magnificent Stonestown Chateau. You never cease to amaze me. It is another beautiful addition to your gorgeous estate! Happy lions, guarding, while little newts swim in their laughing pool. Veg and Willow vines grow, as the sun nurtures each leaf, to reach higher, for yet another link reached, up the fence, covering the little seating area you carved, way last spring. So many places await for just sitting and contemplating the nature of things. One can get lost in your fields of joy and wonder as the time passes. How lucky you are to just sit.
Interesting video again, thank you. I always have fresh water down for my cat but, she prefers to drink from the bath tap or rain water outside. Ahh bless 'em.
Old flat bottom crock bowls are heavy enough your cats won't turn them over. And they last for centuries. I got mine at an antique shop in Bell Buckle, TN USA.
I admire your concern for even the smallest beings like insects and newts. You’ve created a wonderful source of water for the pollinators. Thank you for your respect for the Earth and its beings.
We have chained wayer barrels, each with bottom spout that are connected to our downspots. The insert on the downspout has a filter n trap to catch any debris. They are solid color plastic with lids.. Have large fishing pond. It is fed by 5 springs underground but sometimes water gets churlish. We put chopped up barley straw in nets tied to rope with rock and sink them just below surface and tied to dock to keep water clearer. You can also buy organic die to add to and darken the water that keeps algae from growing as it dampens amount of sunlight penetration in the water. HTH Pioneers in US used to place silver and silver coin or two in their water barrels on their wagons as they settled our western states back then. Silver is an antimicrobial. HTH
Hi Sean. I'm back to re-reply. I was wrong about using the water from a rain barrel for consumption. It's great for plants. Which that you and probably most everyone already knows. Having corrected myself. I love the new/old water feature. I think Sam is going to love it as well. Another nice place to sit and enjoy your countryside. Fragrant and colorful plants will bring birds and butterflies.🐦🦋
Hi Sean...I suggest you put a rock in the bottom of the "well" and put your pump on top of the rock or rocks so it won't suck up any sludge that may form in the bottom. I've used solar pumps for years, and they do need to be cleaned periodically. Cheers from Canada❤!
Use the leaf blower around the well and you won't have to worry about anything. put a board over the reservoir first though to keep the dust out. I put a nylon stocking over my pump to keep the debris and newts out of it and the tube, they should come with one really. It looks very pretty now. What about a cobble foot path all around it leading under a trellis to the greenhouse area?
Can you say cute newt ?😂😉 I’m so glad you took the time to be careful with what might be living at the bottom of the concrete container. Not so much for the bugs (sorry bugs 🫣) but for little creatures like that newt. 😊😊😊
@@Seans_World I’ll have to look that one up - it’s a new one on me🙄 well now- my backyard is full of them I thought they were just skenks. Never saw the legs on your model🤔😉
I like that small cement pond and the way you have it running now. An idea for the cat water very similar to the small pond you have but on a smaller level. About 12-18 inches diameter maybe 2 inch deep cement bowl on a level stone and hook up a similar solar panel pump. They won't be able to tip it over and keep it fresh for them. Have a great day
Sean, get an algae eater fish. I had one in a water feature to help keep it clean. They cannot survive winter outside and they can grow quite large but it worked. I also had a koi which also got big.
Great feature that Sean, sounds wonderful, it will remind you to go to the loo! LOL. Nice seat at the side when its not too hot and relaxation. Brill. Stay well.
Sean, just get some weighted ceramic or pottery dishes that they can’t tip over. Make sure every few days to clean out the inside because water bowls get slimy inside after a few days.
Sorry 3 rd comment. Put something in the water feature so birds dont drown. We have a pond smaller and had to put rocks in it because birds do like to bathe
Hello Sean!!! A suggestion the wood board holding the pump upright cut the top off so the pump is the focal point!! Then add a decorative finial to make final touch!!! Board takes away from metal pump appearance then add some tall colorful blooming plants to give a contrast!!! Nice addition to your garden 🌱
Well done Sean Iove the water for the garden quite amazing how you make your place alive and happy with your cats the area looks great with your touch keep enjoying your work see you soon bye
If you put stomes up around the concrete pipe it would look like an old well. And some flat stones on top to go with the stones on the sides. Then you could put some pots with plants on the flat stones on top of your new well. Maybe 3.4 water lilies in it to..
I was going to write the exact same thing!! I think the stone facade around the concrete would really put the “icing on the cake”. It would help the fountain really look original and blend it in with the houses.😊😊😊
You can probably find deep, flat bottom, porcelain casserole bowls at the vide greniers to use as water bowls for the kitties. I had to use two of those for a while because I had ten cats and one who splashed the water everywhere.
What a great looking water feature and the sound of running water adds a nice element to the garden! You can add beneficial bacteria (sold for ponds) to keep the water clear. I use a product that has the bacteria plus barley and it works great.
The fountain addition and tidy up looks nice and relaxing. 😊 16:43 my cat plays in her water bowl. Gets water everywhere. The other cat puts her toys in the water bowl.
We had a little solar fountain in the bird bath after a while we thought it stopped working so we took it out and put it on a pile of plant pots it was there for months. The other day I thought I could hear a strange loud bird I wondered what it was .A few days later I heard this weird loud motor noise and went looking to see what it was .It was the pump it was in the hot sun ,I put it back in the bird bath it’s still working I’m amazed .I have an old pump and a bucket of ferns next to it but I will look out for a bigger vessel and pretty up that little area .
I also think if you trim the trees behind trim the lower branches on all the trees and bushes you could have the most beautifully made garden to look at from the fronts of the cottages. Also put a peice of silacone mat under the cats bowls and makes it harder to tip. They also sell bowls with silacone already attached. I had a kitten resue for 30 years.
Both of my cats continue to turn their water bowls over. I've heard they equate moving water as fresh water, so maybe that's it. We love your channel! The fountain is awesome.
