We took this 2004 20' Tahoe Pontoon and got it ready for another 20+ years of enjoyment on the water. This boat had a modern style to the railings and layout, but it was in very ROUGH shape. In this project we were able to adjust the layout of the railings and furniture to offer a better experience for the owners. We eliminated the front deck which opened up space across the back deck for walking and swimming. Additionally, we added new plywood, vinyl flooring, furniture, stereo/electrical, railings, and more. Just another example of what can be done with an older pontoon for less than half the price of a new boat!
Our boat wiring connector kits are now available here:

Dang, I was hoping for a while series on this, but jump cut to it completely finished 😢 looks amazing!

I wish every boat we restored had a full instructional and more detailed series. We just have deadlines to get boats done for customers and filming/editing takes so long, especially on longer videos. It just adds a lot of time and takes extra people that aren’t always around to film. I sure hope we keep growing so that we can do more work on content and not NEED to do so many boats to stay in business!

This vid just came up in my recommendations. Not sure why I didn’t see it when you uploaded. What a wreck! These are the boats I look for to buy for my own rebuild projects 😁

Thanks!! It’s great stuff, soft on the feet, super low maintenance…it’s no wonder that all the new pontoon boats have vinyl floors!!

Love your videos! I've been doing so much work to my SouthBay TriToon over the past 3 or 4 years! Always said I wished I had recorded a bunch of it! So good on yiu for doing so! I like the Pintoon stuff aftermarket fencing, but dislike how many panels there are! Like down the sides.. it takes like 8 panels! Where as my boat has 2 long panels per side.. plus the door on one side obviously.. I wished they'd make more custom length panels if asked to.. might even save them time/materials doing so..
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons 4 месяца назад
Thanks for watching!! They had some longer panels in their original designs, but to make it practical for mass production and for the same pieces to fit multiple kits when combined they had to make some changes. Who knows, this is their first go with railing kits and they’re the only modern style full replacement option out there. I’m sure it’ll evolve over time if it’s received well by customers.

You should invest in a vinyl floor weighted roller, it hurts my knees watching you roll with the pvc pipe 😂

I’m old school! I like being down close to the vinyl to make sure there are now bubbles or anything else. Good thing the vinyl is nice and cushioned!!

I am ready to order wood and flooring supplies from pontoon stuff. I noticed the current plywood has a groove cut down the side to fit in the brace. Is there wood cut this way?
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons 3 месяца назад
Hopefully it's this type of crossmember which can be modified easily to make it work with the plywood sold these days (you may have emailed me about this too?): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jzMDzqxMrRo.html

Thanks, and thanks for watching!! I’ve still been using the prototype railings that we’ve had for a while, but running out fast. It’s sounding like this summer. I’m anxiously waiting too, and hoping things move along and they start selling them sooner!!

I’m hooked on your videos. I may just restore one. That is, if it would increase its value substantially. I wouldn’t want to sink time and money into something that I could never get my money out of. Preferably with a profit. What say you?
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons Год назад
Thanks so much for watching my stuff! There is definitely money to be made on buying, restoring, and selling pontoon boats. The biggest factor is the motor. You MUST have a motor that people want and see as reliable, even if it's just a new/newer 20hp four stroke. The profit you make will essentially be paying you for your time on the project, as material costs are high and there's not much room for marking them up for profit. If you can crunch the numbers and make money on a boat that sells for $12K-$15K I think you could do well, especially because of the rising costs of new pontoon boats! Hope this helps!

You told me once that you have snaps to hold down the sundeck. I have a boat for which I built a replacement sundeck, but have lost it twice to not being secure enough for driving. Would you do one of your short videos specifically on sundecks?
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons Год назад
I will cover the sun deck more in depth on the next one that I install. I've seen them held in place with latches as well as a simple piece of angle aluminum that sits on the outside of the railing where a pin can cold the sundeck to the railing.

These were a prototype from Pontoon Stuff, but they’ve been unavailable for quite a while now. They should be releasing the full line of railing kits on their website in the coming months…I will make an announcement about it and I’ll be doing lots of how-to videos on the kits once they’re released.

I have another tec question for ya if you don’t mind. I’ve seen a few toons with fuel cells in the transom. I would love to do this unless it is ill advised. What are your thoughts?
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons Год назад
I'll put it like this...I would prefer to never have a transom mount tank if I could help it. If you must, then it is 100% necessary to have a water/fuel separator, and I would go with the style canister that allows you to drain it to see what's in your fuel to test regularly. A friend who's an outboard mechanic has told me over and over about the issues with transom mount tanks and water getting in fuel.
@richoverton493
@richoverton493 Год назад
@@tomspontoons thanks for the reply. Water finding its way into the fuel was my concern as well. The kid over at ultimate rebuilds I believe did it and those vessels turned out gorgeous. Also considering adding a 3rd log but having trouble finding a short enough one with a transom. One will pop up eventually I’m sure. Thx again Have a good one.
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons Год назад
@@richoverton493 People have them in their transoms all over the country with no trouble. Just seems to be sort of a time bomb thing. I have a contact in Indiana who could make you a center log with transom at a custom size. Shoot me an email if that’s anywhere close enough to you to make it worth it!

What’s a typical cost to have this done? Or do yourself? Have a 2005 Odyssey 525c with carpet and would love to go vinyl. I’m guessing the wood needs to be replaced at same time.
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons Год назад
Great questions! Yes, replace the plywood with marine grade treated when you’re planning to install vinyl. It will improve the adhesion for long term results AND if you’re investing money and TIME (tearing it down and rebuilding) you really should take the extra few hours and extra money to know it’s done correctly. Price…a vinyl flooring kit with vinyl, wood, glue, and hardware is around $2,000-$2500. I would charge around $5000-$5500 installed (obviously depends on layout, furniture, accessories and more when it comes to labor costs). If you shop the flooring kits at Pontoon Stuff, you can get 5% off your order by entering TOMSTOONS at checkout. Saves you cash and helps support our channel with a small kickback. They’ll ship the whole kit FREE to your house, plywood and all.

@@dankostella743 We are in Grand Rapids, Michigan. That's a MASSIVE project as they didn't really build that model to come apart easily...and it's a bit out of my wheelhouse with the hut enclosure. I'm not sure who you might find to restore a project of that magnitude to be honest.
