Part 6: • Restoring an Ancient B...
This barn roof was built alongside the original farmhouse in 1732, which makes it 288 years old. Over the years its clay tiles have been replaced with cement boards, and a leaking corner has rotted away some of the oak frame. It was time for it to be returned to its former glory. This is Part 4 of a 6 Part series documenting the restoration. If you want to follow along, please subscribe!

Good job. But whatever You do, please don't throw the old wood away, keep it stored dry. 1) If there is a enough growth rings they can date exactly in which time it has grown or was cut down 2)store it for later use inside or on another projects. Have a great time.

I love this story your sharing. I wonder if you study the old wood your replacing. Does it tell you if it was a tree 500 years ago. What other things do you find out about the old wood? The architecture back 300 years is fascinating

Watching this for the first time and that was my thought. Those boards have been there for 250ish years, just think how old those trees were before they were harvested for this project. That’s really cool.

I"m wondering about the rafters with the scarf joints, are you going to put vertical dowels to keep them from sliding as the wood gets dryer and shrinks over the years? I didn't see anything holding them in place except the pin and the top pieces. It's a pleasure watching your work.

Hi Carl, you do live in a beautiful place, the silence around you is breathtaking, and i liked the old grease on the tips of the long screws which is something I have always done and keep a pot of vaseline with the tools for such purposes. I would love to buy the tool belt but i do not have the funds at this time but I would be able to buy again if you do another run of them, as i hope you do, I am sure there is enough people that are interested to make it worth your while, You will know though from the reception from the first run to make a decision. I also thought a few bushcrafters would find it appealing , as this is what I would use it for as well. How is the Land rover doing ans would be interested to see when you work on her again, obviously as a filler video or two when the this phase of restoration is complete. D
