Hello and welcome to Badger Workshop. I found this old cast iron bandsaw for sale. I got it and worked on it for a few months to restore it so I could use it. In this part I get it stripped down and painted.

Good job Matt looking forward to see it in action . One point those cap's at the grease points were used before we had grease guns you full the caps with grease and give them half a turn each time you use the saw

That’s very clever. I did wonder why they had so much thread. Thank you

It's good to see old machines put back in working order it will probably last for another 100 years before it needs attention I was a bit disappointed with your restoration yo didn't fill it with bondo and flat it with 2000 grit wet &dry you haven't been watching RU-vid to see how its done.... and you didn't have a cat (ginger) helping you.... apart from that a good without frills restoration ..waiting now for part 3

Great saw and great restoration! I hate to be the Safety Police...but...next time, if you must work indoors a really old machine, disassemble the machine and use a degreaser to clean all surfaces and parts, make sure your work area is well ventilated, then apply a brush-on paint stripper to remove all of the paint instead of using power tools. Wash everything down and spray on an etching primer to prevent flash rusting before you paint. You just saved a lot of time and most importantly, you prevented lead paint dust from getting all over you and into every corner of your shop! Keep up the good work mate!

Definitely looks like a seal to me. I rescued a Grey Seal pup many moons ago in the West of Ireland washed ashore in a storm. Whilst waiting the 3 days for the Northern Ireland seal rescue to come and collect the little chap, he lived in my bath. Later they sent me photos after he had been successfully returned to the sea. So yes, got a good idea what a young seal looks like!

Beauty, now I'm no expert, it looks to me this thing is Victorian maybe, maybe 100 yo, it seems to me that Hammerite Black is as close to the original color as Japaning covered everything in that era, I could be way off, but job well done IMO

Bloody good job there, Matt. 👍🏽 Had to chuckle when the dolly rolled out the door...😆 It took me ages and a lot of sweat to clean up my table saw cast iron top, when I finally got it in good shape I gave it a coat of wipe on water based Polly. No worries of rusting and will last about 12 months before needing a re-do.

Hi Matt, I know you have a compressor so it would not take much time to make a sand blasting cabinet and the actual bits you will need to buy are not many. It would be a good build idea and also the finish you get with a sand blaster is much better than that wire wheel and all the nasty stuff is contained inside the cabinet so you don’t need any PPE apart from the rubber gantlets
@Badgerworkshop
@Badgerworkshop 3 года назад
That would work well but I don’t have the compressor any more
