I LOVE the clown shoe, and that inline 6 is practically bulletproof. I find this particular setup very easy to work on, and BMW did an exceptional job of keeping everything so simple. In my opinion, this era of BMW is my all time favorite.

I find it hard to believe most car nuts aren't here defending this car. This is a marriage between the rally car setup with that wagon look Europeans go crazy for. A small body with a torquey straight 6. I transported these cars new from off the boats to dealerships. personally will take this car before its convertible counterfeit....cough cough counterpart.

I'm a girl and this is the only car channel I follow. I found it when i was doing a deep dive on electric cars. Then the van build came out and I got hooked with the stories, humor and unique content ever since. Keep up the good work :D The one thing that was disappointing in both vans was the toilet, the log chopper doesn't seem very comfy :x

Nicely done guys, just missed one thing i.m.o. : replacing the vanos seals, helps a lot with low end power, biggest change I noticed was not having the sudden "kick" in power after 4K rpm (works for almost all 6 cil single and double vanos BMW engines)

The secondary fan removal is a popular mod due to their potential to shatter and stick a fin into the engine block. Usually people install a lower threshold thermostat and it's enough to counteract the added heat, though maybe that didn't happen on this one. A full cooling refresh every 10 years or so on these is definitely recommended.

This has got to be one of The most beautiful things I have ever seen. I once witnessed a beautiful Black 321bhp M3 Coupe rising up an intersection from a motorway, drifting the whole bridge over the lanes and returning back the way it came from. It was phenomenal. There has, nor I doubt ever will be, many cars as pristine as this. When I was a child and drew "fast cars" they looked like this. Absolutely amazing

Next to the Z8 I've always thought that the M Coupe was the coolest BMW car. I test drove one when it came out and it was an incredible driving experience. My issue was that I'm 6' tall and my head brushed the headliner plus the the sun glass did not open, which would've made the cabin more airy. I felt a bit claustrophobic in the car. I can't believe the M Coupe has become known as the "Clown Shoe." Everyone I knew thought it looked more like a "Shark."

I saw one of these at a gym parking lot in the Naval base I was stationed in. I was looking to see if the owner was selling it, but I never found the owner. It stayed there for like 3 years covered in pollen until I moved out.

Well that last coat was obviously a wet look lacquer or finish. Would be good to know how long it actually lasts. You can get similar results by buffing with compound.

It was still looking good when I sold the car I used it on. The final coat uses something that supposedly has UV protection in it, which is why I used it instead of another kit.

Turtle wax buffing compound and a foam disk on you cordless drill works great and is dirt cheap.

Great vid and resto. Love the uniqueness of the clown shoe and I really like the satin on the pillar that you added (should be standard), it 'manlyfies' it a bit more and reduces some of the clownishness at the same time. Well done gents! (The clown shoe BMW often reminds me of a far less refined/powered/appointed/styled version of the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso grocery getter!)

I love the look of the so called "Clown Shoe" i think it looks way better than Z3. In 1999 this bmw looks great then and now 2021 it still turns heads. Its got good looking stock rims and my fav is the Fenders front and back i love the wide stance. A great platform from bmw when modified with good taste. Good work fellas!

How do you remove the secondary air-pump and not throw codes? I guess i will research that for my '96 M3.. Same (looking) engine ... The Dinan C.A.I. can be sanded and gone over w/ West System epoxy, mine too, de-laminated and looked like crap. Thanks ! This was fun watching.

After having a few E36s, if I could recommend one sensor you have yet to replace, it's the crank position sensor. That one can/will die and it'll strand you whenever it does. I always kept a spare in my toolbag.

Great episode! I have a new found respect for beemers in general, and the clown shoe in particular. It reminds me of the Hearse modded Jaguar from Harold and Maude. The mechanical fan is often removed on these cars as they are known to grenade themselfs. Replacing the coolant sensor with a lower temperature trigger and the one fan will do fine

Yellow film helps keep bugs down for night running. Its not just for looks. Its actually race car stuff. Look it up. I tint my motorcycle head lights as well. I get half the bugs on my helmet that my friends do. It works.

MGB kind of did the same thing with the MGB. It's a cool little roadster that directly inspired the Mazda Miata. They also made the MGB GT. Same car mechanicly , but hardtop/hatchback kind of thing.. and it just looks...wrong. It also added a lot of extra weight and threw the balance on the car way off.

That's no clown shoe, it's the legendary ZED 3 M! A real drivers car. Make sure you keep that car, do some mods and go to the track. It's almost akin to the 135i or today's M2. Tight chassis and a lot of rear wheel ponies = 😁😁😁

If you used FCP Euro, you would never have to pay for any of those parts (consumables do wear and break) for the rest of your life owning the car. Everything has a lifetime warranty, even oil. Ship them old ones and they ship you brand new ones. Free. Just putting it out there for your bmw viewers ( or foreign viewers also).

@22:00 I have Volvo coilovers on my Nissan Titan. They look similar with the red color, but ngk does make a cheaper coilover in the same color pattern. There is Dyno test prove that the Volvo brand coilover gives a 5hp gain, with ngk slightly lower.

It's was a track car, you can put 275 on the rear. The front is the problem, 255 is the largest can be under the front using the correct offset.

Great video as usual. I have the same car, but a roadster version. You don't necessarily need the main engine fan (there are a few things you need to do in order to delete it). Did you every find out why the car overheated? Also, as you can probably tell, your headlight is missing the bottom screws. Last, but not least - I hope you remembered to add some RTV on the half moons at the back of the head. Oh and this car is NOT ugly!

Are you dumb? Victor Reinz is a subsidiary of Mahle and an OEM supplier of many euro brands, how is it worse than OEM if it IS OEM?

@@mr_sparkly_face4087 I can only speak from experience. I own a shop that specializes in BMW repairs. We used to us VR but after getting many comebacks, we switched to Factory original and never had a problem again. So, dumb?

Love my M Coupe!! And while a few people tell me it's ugly, lots of people tell me how cool they think it is and people offer to buy it. I would definitely keep this around and make more content with it... I'm in NH too, I wonder how many other's there are around here, I never see any.

Rich after polishing your headlights apply some ceramic coating it will protect from UV damage and last forever!!! That's my trick. Don't thanks okay? :DD

If the oil cap isn’t on just so on my MINI the check engine light will come on, because it’s a BMW product. 🤣

I’ve never had any issues with my bmws and the oil cap. Just put it one and turn it till it stops… maybe your gasket on the cap is damaged?

@@FishFind3000 and that's the key. It can't be short of a full turn until it stops by 1 mm; because if it is, check engine light. And that's only on my second gen MINI Clubman. That doesn't happen on my first gen MINI. THAT TOOK FOREVER TO F****** FIGURE OUT. I DO NOT EXAGGERATE ABOUT FOREVER. Most mechanics don't even know that that's possible; anything short of a full stop, check engine.

@@GRSEMETROMALL I don't doubt your scenario because i've heard of other cars (vw) throwing hard to track fuel codes (high fuel trim or "lean" at idle i believe) over crankcase air leaks. On those cars it's the crankcase breather box gasket, but the same thing will happen if the oil cap lets air by.

I like how you restore that classic BMW Z3M. Even in Germany we do not See them Osten anymore. Well, low production numbers... That was actually a good pronounciation on the color cosmosschwarz of the car. Greetings from Germany.
