This hits home because my dad busted his butt on the rail gangs of Penn Central and Conrail and later CSX as a Conductor/Engineer. He passed in 09, but I remember when he was rail gang he took me to see her passing by as a little kid, she was the first Locomotives I seen and seen up close and I have a picture of me sitting on his shoulder with 1361 in the picture with us so it bring tears to my eyes seeing this happening. He had the biggest heart ever, would come home covered in dirt and smoke but he never complained and always smiled and always played with us when he came home. He was so proud of his work and of the rail road, it means alot to see her come back.

As a Pennsylvania native, and a resident of the nearby town of Hollidaysburg, I can’t wait for the day that this grand piece of the PRR’s history returns to operation and rolls out of the shed for the first time since 1988. May this restoration go well, and hopefully we’ll see the Spirit of Altoona ride the rails once again

Very glad to see this piece of history being brought back to life! The 1361 needs to be on the rails where she belongs! I understand completely that this is taking a long time to do but what people need to understand is her rebuild needs to be done at 100%! If it’s done at 100% she will be 100% reliable! I wanna thank everybody involved at the museum and everybody involved at the rebuilding of the 1361 for the effort that they’re putting into bringing this legend back to life! Great work everybody involved!

Very satisfying to see one of my favorite Pennsylvania locomotives being restored and brought back to operation, she’s definitely in my top 5 of my favorite pennsylvania engines Her sister 3750 deserves restoration as well, but it’s probably going to be cosmetic tho, she looks rough but it’s doesn’t seem that bad Just imagine how she and 5550 will look when their both completed

Sooooo many steam locomotives being restored, several in freight revenue service again, I’m telling you guys steam is coming back built by love and appreciation. These daylight, big boy, 3751 Santa Fe and many other massive PR movements are what I believe is why steam is being brought back in such momentum. I’m not familiar with this locomotive but this videos editing is super good. Can’t wait to see another steam giant alive and well

Steam locomotives worked in the past, why wouldn’t they work again today, they were originally designed and built for a reason. Check out the video of two Norfolk and Western steam locomotives doing a 100 hopper coal car drag up through the Allegheny’s. Can you imagine how many modern locomotives it would take to perform that in this day and age.

The Pennys K4 was the inspiration for Nigel Gresley designer 9f Flying Scotsman to introduce big eng8nes by U K standards. The Gresley A1 class was the first successful pacific in the UK I think the K4s are the best looking steam locos in the US,the just look so pleasing to the eye.

@@robintheslavewr1513 Not exactly, she would more than likely need the same amount of work as 1361, RR Museum of PA has all the missing parts and blueprints, but its gonna be a bit of a challenge considering she's been sitting in the elements for a while. She does look bad, but she is nowhere near 734 or 3985 levels of bad.

I believe the owners have letters of intent, or at least working relationships, with a variety of shortlines and regionals in Pennsylvania and neighboring states, that will allow them to operate 1361 at those venues. Now, whether or not the management of these host roads stay the same and do not renege on these relationships over the next few years remains to be seen, but, as of now, that is the current arrangement and plan.

a couple of questions about The 1361 is she hand fired? Once she is done is she going to Strasburg to operate there? Also how old is the 1361?
@TranscontinentalRailfan
@TranscontinentalRailfan 2 года назад
1. The 1361 used to be hand-fired, but now she has a stocker unit. 2. Once 1361’s restoration is complete, it will tour the commonwealth of Pennsylvania to different tourist railroads and heritage railroads in Pennsylvania, including the Strasburg Railroad. 3. The 1361 was built in May of 1918. That makes 1361 about 104 years old.
