Another great video. Zac Paris is the only decals worth purchasing, and he is super honest and professional.

Totally agree re Zac Paris. Best after market decals on the planet. Accurate in both colour and dimensions and pre cut. Also come with reproduction instructions. What more could you ask.

He's the best that I've found. I've bought from him a couple times. Doesn't get any better that that. The instructions are the true bonus as it helps to know exactly where each decal goes on the toy.

Ooooo the good old repro debate, personally I have no issue with repro, but I understand and respect people on both sides of the fence, I restored my palitoy x wing that I rescued with repro decals for the reasons you have, it looks amazing again, it's a topic that will probably never go away but I just stay impartial as I have zero desire to get in to any arguments over such things, collect however you want and be happy as far as I'm concerned 👍

@@googleuser3163 I understand what your saying but I can't help point out that collecting and money go hand and hand , hear me out , I collect for fun but what I've seen from the collecting community is that they go crazy over Afa and minty stuff . I wish I could say that wasn't the case but that's how most not all of the collectors act. As far as the sticker debate goes, I agree its your toy do as you wish. I collect lots of different vintage toy lines and personally it does bother me when stickers are missing, but I like to keep my stuff 100% og so I leave it alone as is, or if I see another ship out in the wild with good decals I'll buy it if the price is right.
@googleuser3163
@googleuser3163 3 года назад
@@DRAGOINTHEHOUSE I can respect that. I can totally understand people wanting to keep 100% original, it's a very valid way to collect and it's probably what most of us at least aim for. I'm just saying it's no less valid to want/have repro parts. A lot of people will be happy with something that "does the job" over something that might potentially put them in the red. I'd love to have Yak someday but I don't think I'll ever be able to justify the ever-rising price...

I used the same guy for my stickers. Over the last couple of years I started to collect vehicles again (mainly SW & ESB) and some needed a little TLC. I’m glad there are options out there for decals. These are my pieces and are going to stay with me, so no harm no foul. Yes, it’s bad if someone tries to pass them off as original, but if you’re gonna be spending that kind of money to collect you should at least educate yourself and know what to look out for. That should be your own responsibility as a buyer and no one else’s. Zac does some amazing work and also has extremely fair prices!

Yup. I totally agree. ZacParis is the best when it comes to new stickers. I have replaced many a sticker on my ships with his stuff and they are as authentic as they come. The debate on restoring a toy are about as diverse as the viewpoints on restoring and antique automobile, of which I also own. When it boils down to it, it is your toy and you can do with it as you please.
@GQJedi

Best around. I hate repro weapons but decals are next to impossible to find in good condition to reapply. The only exception I make for my toys. But if I can replace with untampered with toys then I do.

@@GQJedi I can go both ways when it comes to reproduction stuff. As an owner of a 1927 Model T Ford, if I did not have reproduction parts my car would not be running. My family could not enjoy going out in it I could not enjoy driving it because it would not be safe. There are the occasional "barn finds" - and fellas pay more for those cars that have been left untouched. Generally, they cannot be driven and therefore are just something to look at. Not worth it in my book. When an old car enthusiast buys reproduction parts they want them to look original and feel original. I am the same way with reproduction stuff. Sellers should be honest when it comes to the reproduction item and I think most are. There are the unscrupulous types that will sell a reproduction as an original, however; they have been in existence since time began. The problem with the entire issue is that the prices on Star Wars toys have gone through the roof and this is where I have to draw the line. Many collectors just look at it as an investment and it becomes all about the money. It is just plastic and it is only a toy. Toy Polloi did a great video on the degradation of plastic that should bring a sense of reality to this type of collecting. These toys will not last forever and we certainly can't take it with us when we die. For folks like you and I who played with our toys as kids, it is not so much an investment as it is maintaining a memory that made life so much better. I would not trade my worn R2-D2 for a brand new one because of the memories I had playing with my brothers. I hope to instill that type of memory with my son. Teaching him to take care of his toys, but yet have fun with them. I have all of my original weapons from my childhood except Greedo's and I will eventually buy an original gun; however, for the POTF figures that I don't have, I will probably have to get a reproduction weapon to complete it because the prices are way too high. If reproduction looks like a duck and walks like a duck and completes my collection, then so be it. I would much prefer to have an original weapon, but I don't need to break the bank trying to complete my collection.
@GQJedi
@GQJedi 3 года назад
To each their own I always say. It’s your toy do whatever you want with it. Same with old cars. That’s the only way to restore most of those nowadays anyway. If you ever sell your toys or car then of course it’s the responsibility of the seller to inform the potential buyer of any said reproduction / aftermarket parts. As far as my collection I don’t typically sell my toys. And if something was tampered with, I would alert the buyer. But, I like Kenner to too much to sell my toys! LOL.

Repro is a controversial hot topic again. I kind of sit on the fence when it comes to repro. I can understand the price of weapons or extortionate. And as you said they are your toys to do with what you wish. The only label I have replaced is for my 1978 R2D2. He had spent a good 6 months in a sand pit and his sticker was completely perished. I bought a replacement about 15 years ago before all this debate had heated up. I regularly replace my G1 Transformer stickers and have no problem with that as they look a hell of a lot better. When it comes to Star Wars ships I try and make the best of what I have, resticking and reapplying with glue maybe. Just want to say you're X Wing looks minty fresh. Good for you, it's your toy don't let anybody tell you how to collect. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

That's a stunning job you did on the X-Wing! I do have a couple of repro accessories, but I brand a little "r" on the hilt or handles to protect future collectors. I personally don't have the funds to always get original weapons and as long as it looks ok, I'm happy. I think you have to do what you feel is right for you, and I'd rather have Droopy playing a repro instrument than the air flute!

I'm pretty neutral on the whole repro debate. I don't endorse fraud of course, but for me, a "restored"peice withe repro decals is ok. Parts is another story. Addendum to that, repro internal parts is a separate debate to repro external parts. If an item is sold as "restored" I'm ok with it having repro internal parts and decals (and Dagobah foam for that metter - the original shit never lasts). For my own, I've no hope of getting the one or two decals I need in original condition. It's not even an issue of cost or price - It may not even exist! Now, I've seen a coulple of times your sonic landspeeder needeing a new or replaced gear to make it work. It seems to be a common weak spot with that toy. Another RU-vidr, Chronique Vintage, repaired his with superglue. That may work for you, but also consider a 3d printed replacement part for an INTERNAL piece. IF it make the toy work, what is the harm in that? Nothing is permanant in this world, but if a lumberjack has an axe and replaces the blade twice, and the hadle six times is he still using his original axe? BTW, I need a new roof on my house and some new siding and some other odds and ends, but it's still the same house my parents bought in the '90s right?
@GQJedi

You gotta do what makes you feel good as it’s your collection. I can’t really be bothered with what other people tell me I should or shouldn’t do. Decals are my exception to the rule. But again, collecting rules can be broken if it’s an absolute must to “finish” a piece that you ultimately don’t want to buy again complete. And no, nothing is permanent. House, car or toys for that matter. As I always say, You gotta do You.,

I looked for original decals for my Millennium Falcon for a couple years, found a few here and there, but never all the decals I needed. So I eventually bought some off a guy on ebay. When I got them the colors looked off,, and washed out. Wasn't happy with them at all! I went straight back to ebay and purchased some from zacparis. Great quality stickers! I won't buy decals from anyone else but zacparis from here on out. I do plan on eventually finding the rest of the original decals I need to complete my falcon, but these replicas will do fine until I find them (if I ever do?).

I don't use repro stickers on figures or buy repro weapons because those items are readily available, you just have to pay for it. I don't mind that. But ship/vehicle decals aren't readily available as I stated in the video. It's the ONLY reason I make this 1 exception because without repro decals for my X-Wing it might sit there unfinished for ages. Its all a matter of personal opinion and preference though. My take on the repro sticker/weapon/decal/etc is this : IF you are going to resell that changed/restored/altered item than you should disclose that information to the buyer. Period. I will not be purchasing repro decals for anything besides a ship or 2 that needs some. But you do what you feel is right.

I have 2 Palitoy X-Wings with stickers that are pretty good, but both of them have the battle damage stickers added, I keep wanting to remove one set of stickers and put new decals on to make a clean X-Wing, but I feel bad taking the stickers off when they are in pretty good condition. Maybe I will buy another X-Wing instead and look for one with no stickers. 😂

Those pesky battle damage stickers. Worst idea ever. Ha. I don't know anyone that truly appreciates them. You're not alone, my friend. Yes, taking off good decals hurts, its almost sacrilegious! Hopefully you can find another ship and that will solve all your problems! :)

In my opinion its better to use Repro Stickers for restoration an old vehicle to give them a new soul and live, than let it damaged and dirty in a Box. But, if you can use the old Stickers for restoration, its better to usw the old ones. A good restoration begins with a check, what is to hold and what is to make new, like a restoration of an Oldtimer car. There you cant use everything old, something is to make new in old style. Greetings from Germany Thomas
@GQJedi
@GQJedi 3 года назад
Restorations are up to the owner. Do what you want with your toy. Period. But if you sell it down the road, be transparent about what you did should buyer inquire. Then you are protecting the “hobby” and no one can get scammed. I’ve said this over and over. I would prefer to use original decals but they’re not that easy to come by as anyone knows that seriously collects Kenner. You have to use what’s available to you. I agree with you, Thomas. Greetings from California! 😎

I’m with you on the decals for sure. I myself have personally used zacparis decals on a couple of my ships. They look great and the quality is second to none as far as reproductions go. I also have no issues with anyone that does want to use repro accessories. It’s their collection to do with as they please. The only problem I have ever had with them is when people attempt to sell them as legit. But unfortunately when money is involved there will ALWAYS be someone attempting to rip somebody else off. It is just one of the trickier parts in the hobby. I do feel that when people decide to purchase weapons they need to do their due diligence and educate themselves on what to look for. Anyone that is willing to spend the amount of money that some of these tiny pieces of plastic seem to go for at times would be remiss if they didn’t know exactly what they should be looking for.
@GQJedi
@GQJedi 3 года назад
Well said, amigo. People should educate themselves on what they are buying. Plain and simple. But not everyone knows what they are buying and people get scammed. But for those that want to alter their toys, just disclose that info the buyer. Let them know the decals aren't real. That Droopy McCool flute is repro. Let folks know. Beyond that, the toys are yours. Do as you please. But be smart and respectful when sharing those toys in the community.

What are you trying to whiten? For my X-Wing I got the Salon 40 Creme, not the solution, the creme. Take a paintbrush or something and paint the creme on. Coat the area heavily with the creme that needs whitening. If you can wrap it in plastic to seal it or put in a container, even better. Submerge toys in the solution, paint on the creme. Hope that helps.

The repro thing in my opinion is whatever makes that collector happy with his or her collection. I have 1 repro thing in my entire collection (dagobah playset foam), but I also don't collect a ton of vintage, my collection is more 90s to modern so its not as a big a deal for me. But if I had a friend who had a room of vintage and he told me some of the stuff had repro stickers or weapons I wouldn't care. Its his stuff and his collection. I dont have any except that foam, and im also a figure completionist and if a figure came with multiple accessories I want it to have all of them. So sometimes that means I walk away from a deal on a loose figure if I think its going to be nearly impossible to get that extra piece. But that's just me. I would never shame another person's collection though. Good video as always
@GQJedi
@GQJedi 3 года назад
Shaming anyone over their toys is ridiculous. But some folks take it too seriously or think they have a right to say this or that. That Dagobah foam like the decals is next to impossible to replace. Some exceptions can be made I should think.
