Get a job! That's the refrain people repeat over and over the minute they deem you an adult. Too bad it's WAY harder these days for us young people to get a job than probably ever before. And even then, most job openings usually involve groceries, lattes, or fast food. Thing is, even though they're rare, career opportunities are out there. It's just a matter of finding them and knowing how to speak their language. Most people think the key to a good resume and/or cover letter is just throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. Too bad the person and/or program scanning your stuff is busy, so that's the wrong way to go. So how do you write a great resume and an even better cover letter. Luckily, I sat through a bunch of classes to learn just that, and now it's time for me to teach you! Welcome to my new series: Get Your Sh*t Together!

I like your "how to adult" videos. I swear things are so freaking overwhelming and annoying when trying to do it yourself such as trying to get health insurance or even trying to get a job yet sometimes these videos make it feel like "okay breathe, you can do it"

TheNotAdam So how do you not fall into a constant state of depression? Cause that's where I am every time I hear or see something else Trump and his administration has done/are doing? I'm honest to god either crying out hopelessness or angry to the point of tears. How do you get through the day cause I really could use some help

This was great. When I'm hiring I'm not only looking for people who will benefit my business, but for the role to make sense in the individual's career development. I'm like Goldilocks looking for a candidate that isn't over or under qualified, the candidate who will find the work challenging, but not overwhelming. Both the resume and cover letter should make the position seem like the perfect next step in your career.

I think you went into my head, got the sponsorship, filmed, edited and upload the video in like 1 hour, I was right now looking at jobs and deciding how to bulk up my resume to be more specific to those jobs, thanks this is really helpful, I would like to see a video about moving out to a completely new state where you don't know nobody, how to find the apartment and such. i think making resumes and cover letters are the hardest part of getting a job at least for me because im not the best at putting my thoughts onto paper, i always ramble and i never know what to put in it lol. it is a little sad that you explained how to make them better then my school did, you made it easy to understand, gave very helpful advice, and made it fun and interesting :). so thank you for making this i really do appreciate it ^.^

I recently started freelancing in film production and one thing I struggle with on days off is how not to waste the whole day on social media. Don't get me wrong, it's great to relax and have me time, but a video on how you keep yourself on schedule and stay productive when you're self-employed would be useful. :)

You're awesome for making this video! Luckily, my university requires the college of engineering to take a technical writing class where resume and cover letters are covered, but I honestly don't understand why classes like these aren't required in high school. It's so applicable to the real world (email etiquette, elevator pitches, interview basics, body language, professional dress, group dynamics, concise and effective writing, etc).

I know its a boring topic but paying taxes. I'm an accountant and a lot of my friends rely on me for help with that but many of them don't need me to help them. For people with one job and little other income generally can file their taxes on their own it just seems really daunting. I'd love to see something that helps make that process a little easier for people

How to apply for college would be helpful. How banks and credit union's work... How to sort and do laundry... How to buy a car... Tipping etiquette... How to keep a budget... Thing's you need to know about living on your own for the first time like signing up for utilities... How easy it is to f*** up your credit... Ah, I should have put this one first. REGISTERING TO VOTE! Just a few idea's.

Another way to think about it: your resume gets the interview scheduled while the cover letter creates the content of the interview. The hiring office may have a set of questions they need to ask, but they often want to discuss other things that make you memorable. Remember, they don't need a drone or warm body, they need an employee for their company. My managers have always told me that attitude and personality often weighs heavily on their decision, because if they don't think you will fit in their company culture, they won't hire you.

Great concept. Here's a crazy idea for you. Retirement planning, and I do not mean just piling up as much money as you can. Talk about planning Where, When and Why of Retirement. Also deal with housing issues. (I. E. having your home done before you actually retire, so you still have some cash flow to help you finish.)

Perfect timing! I'm on the job hunt now :) Just one thing though... "unless you're like a lawyer or something, your resume and cover letter are each gonna be a page long" isn't true. I'm applying for lawyer jobs and they still want those short and sweet.

Ok so as a college student with professors who have taught me how to write a good resume and cover letter, I was curious to see how you would teach it. And damn, do I feel like I wasted a bit of my tuition 😆 Regardless this was a really good explanation of how to apply for a job. I'm really interested to what you talk about in the future! Cooking. I'm not all that good at it. I was raised by an "old school" dad who never thought I needed to learn how to cook because he would use the logic of "well, he'll just get older and get a wife and she'll cook for him." Similar to him because he married my mom and she cooked for everyone. Well, I'm 26, no wife, there will never be a wife, and I'm still at least D+ level cook.
