@@ThomasDeLauerOfficial I've stumbled upon a couple videos- on how niacin or vitamin B-3 has been shown to cure schizophrenia and depression at 90% success rate, besides the well known benefits of lowering cholesterol and is a great detox. I have a mental illness and have take 500mg the past few days and seem feel better already, waiting for a longer trail before coming to a definitive conclusion. Hoping to see if your interested in putting a video together if you happen to find studies that support this, I'd love to learn more and hopefully this could help many people suffering from mental illness. - Dr. Abram Hoffer studied this connection for 40-50 years so the vids said. Anyways, Love your content, KETO for 2 months and counting
Remember that we forget the simple things like mind over matter, and human engineering, we're to keep on track and have a good love life too, which I doubt any long term melatonin effects would have any effect on, the ultimate health is love and anything less then our natural engineering is laughable, when our chemistry is at its utmost peaks than our body will naturally take care of most our stress relatants, it also hints that wisdom is one of mankinds most effectively forged weapons, mind body soul.
When you roll around for 4 to 5 hours a night for a week you begin to care less how healthy something is long term as long as it works when you want it to
I just started taking 3mg Melatonine - I don't really fall asleep faster or stay asleep longer, but my sleep is VERY deep. I have dreams constantly since taking the supplement and notice that I feel much more well rested in the morning. This news is kind of a downer because I haven't slept this good in a loooong time. Not sure what to do, as usual lol!
Yeah, that's d desperation that affects a lot of people, not caring or not knowing the magnitude about the damages caused to our poor nervous system, in specific the hypothalamus. It damages the synapses and the damages will be noted later on in life in a more aggressive way like dealing w emotional conditions. . . Ive been detoxing from too much otc melatonin. Valerian root tea is the bestest. It'd knock me out until I can't sleep anymore. The 🌺⭐🙏🎎✌🏻🕊
@@LaLokita4ever8 I would argue lack of sleep is far more detrimental to your health then taking melatonine.. Sleeping for only 3-4 hours a night causes numerous health problems.. including a higher risk of heart disease, heart failure, high blood pressure. The chances you getting cancer is dramatically increased.. Not only is it harmful for your health, but it also mentally and physically effects you. Your skin ages poorly, you feel fatigued, tired and depressed' you become slower/forgetful and it also impairs judgement.. The list of general health problem is endless from lack of sleep..Not only that, but in order to combat you feeling tired/fatigue, people would intake large amounts of caffeine via energy drink during the day that causes even more health issues. I would much rather have someone take a moderate dose of melatonine and get good sleep in then avoid using it and get no sleep in..
alternatives 4:32 1. Magnesium blocks cortisol to the brain, and helps produce more GABA, and helps natural production of melatonin 2. Theanine (tea) helps produce GABA for alpha brain waves 3. Glycine decreases core body temperature. (subcutaneous = under the skin). Glycine in gelatin, bone broth, poultry skin, meat, eggs, dairy, legumes.
Dr. Relly Reiter, a proponent of melatonin has been taking melatonin for 30 years and now he is in his 90s and still giving lectures about it. He said that melatonin it is safe specially for older people .I had been taking melatonin for almost 2 years now and I am in good health than I was before.
Nice video...I am way up on Melatonin, take 10 mg almost every night, have for years. After so many foot and back surgeries I use it to help my natural sleep patterns...helps a lot!!
I take 1mg nightly and have for a long time. I don’t have a problem falling asleep but have problems staying asleep. This is an interesting and eye opening video, thank you.
I wish more people would see this. I was a heavy melatonin user because I was unaware of the effects it had on my body. Thanks for posting! As always!...
I sleep so much better when I use a box fan. I elevate and angle it enough to where it covers the area of where I'm laying down. Even the constant hum that the fan itself makes is relaxing (there are no interruptions in the cycle of the fan). I've found that when I would use soft and smooth tunes to fall asleep, the start of a new song has the ability to wake up.
I have tried it once or twice and woke up with a headache. I use magnesium throughout the day, spray magnesium oil on myself before I sleep and add L-Theanine into my morning coffee (when I have one). Cool room is a must too!
I've had chronic insomnia all my life. Melatonin is unlicensed in the UK but my doctor prescribed it to me anyway. I took it every day for a week and didn't get a single nights sleep. Now feel like shit and am not taking it anymore. Thanks doc!
I want the hormonal effect. Melatonin brings down excessively high adrenaline and stress hormones if you have that issue genetically. Much lower inflammation and consistent fat loss since I started it.
I don't take melatonin more than about once a week or less, but I checked the dosage just now and its 10mg. I'm tipping it out tomorrow. I had no idea.Thank you Thomas. I can always rely on you to tell the whole story about anything, and we need the whole story always.
I've started taking melatonin, haven't sleep this good since I was a teenager.. I wake up feeling that I'm rested and slept well! I'll take my chances! 👍
Find out from youtube Dr. Reiter, he is a proponent of Melatonin, he has been taking it for 30 years and he is still active giving lectures, he takes melatonin every night starting when he was in his forties. He is still in good shape. Elevation of sugar in the blood only occurs when you eat snacks before bed time and take melatonin. recent studies show that melatonin can decrease glycemic index in the blood. I had been taking melatonin 1 mg every night and I am more energetic and active now than before.
Negative feedback loop is not a problem according to several studies. I would recommend digging further, we only can use about 2.5% of any oral melatonin we take. Creams and suppositories are much better. Dosages between 100-200 mg can have incredible benefits and it is stellar as a skin care product for removing many blemishes…
top choices: 1.passion flower ,lemon balm or skullcap. 2.Zenbev drink mix is an organic sleep aid made from pumpkin seeds. 3.epsom salt bath has magnesium in it 4.probiotic -good stomach bacteria ( gut brain connection) 5.ashwagandha after exhaustion 6.foods with high fibre example: kiwi 7.eating 1-2 boiled eggs have B vitamins before sleep
I made the mistake of taking melatonin this spring. I was having trouble sleeping, staying awake for hours. The melatonin worked, I was falling asleep within 15 minutes of taking the pill however I was having trouble staying asleep. I now found that I was only sleeping for 5 or 6 hours, and although I wasn't feeling sleepy when I woke up I was feeling sleepy by mid day. After about a month of this I stopped taking the melatonin but this pattern of not getting enough sleep continued for the next 3 months. Now that things have returned to normal I'm still having trouble getting to sleep but I'm at least getting a full night's sleep when I do eventually drift off. I'll definitely be giving these tips a try, thank you very much Thomas!
Thomas, nowadays in Europe you can purchase Melatonine. I've taken it a couple of times. I felt asleep very quickly but I also woke up at times that I wasn't supposed to wake up
You have to take it around 4-5 hours before bedtime. I know it says to take it 30 minutes before bedtime on the label, but studies show it's not as effective. Also only take 500 mg or less.
This video was very good, and I thank you for it; I'll subscribe and save it; thank you. I have insomnia, the type where I can usually fall asleep... but then I wake up 10 minutes later and have to start relaxing all over again to try to get back there. Or I wake up 2 or 4 hours later about 50% of the time, that's it: I'm up, and full of energy. Sometimes I stay in bed for another half hour, trying to relax my whole body, 1 segment at a time, but that often doesn't work. So I curse the situation and bound out of bed. I used to take melatonin, and then realized, as you pointed out, that I was making the situation worse. Then I tried collagen about an hour before bed, which seemed okay, then GABA, which was no good for me. I think theanine gave me something of a headache; I'm prone to headaches, especially migraines w/o aura. Now I'm trying glycine, where I've had an interesting reaction, because glycine is also an excitatory neurotransmitter, as well as an inhibitory one. With me, when I take it in the morning (1 gm) it clears the mental cobwebs, because I've only had 4 hours sleep... but then, maybe 3 hours later, I crash, and can gratefully take a nap. So I'm trying to experiment with taking glycine 3 or 4 hours before bed (on an empty stomach). Two nights ago I took 2 grams and it seemed to work; last night I tried 3 grams but no; woke up after 4 hours and lay there for another 40 minutes; no good. Then I took a gram to clear the cobwebs and had mini crashes throughout the day, taking several naps over the next 10 hours or so. I'm frankly quite worried, because they're now saying that sleep deprivation is a leading cause of dementia... and my memory, especially for names, is becoming more and more faulty, and my near term memory; say the last five minutes, is already gone. So for example, I'll go to brush my teeth and discover my toothbrush is wet- so I guess I must've already brushed my teeth... or if I go to floss, I first look at my fingers and often find the lines, the indentations that the string of floss left, is already there: that's how I know I've already flossed. It's frankly scary. Anyway, if you have any thoughts or advice, I'd like to read them, and thanks again.
My son has extreme short term memory issues. He has insomnia and ADD. I'm sure lack of sleep causes short term memory issues. The only thing that helps him sleep is occasional low dose melatonin, it doesn't work if taken too often. His insomnia started when he was young, at about age 12, to this day, mid 30's. I wish there were more solutions for you both, and for other's suffering from continuous insomnia. Edit: He also has migraine (since childhood) I wonder if there's a connection.
As a person with chronic insomnia I found this video very beneficial. I have used melatonin and have also heard its bad but never really looked into why. Thanks for the info!
Carrie- I've tried it along with GABA and both did nothing for me. Currently taking Restavit with a magnesium glycinate and still feeling comatose and falling asleep in public between 3-5pm. Currently researching orexin.
@OvenLovin 710 No need to sell me on keto- many of us here already discovered it long ago. Keto doesn't 'cure' decades of insomnia or metabolic problems developed as a result. I have underactive thyroid and in winter it can hours to bring my body temp up to fall asleep, wearing a thick tracksuit, wool socks, wooly bed slippers, a doona as well as a heavy blanket, so no, no wim hof whatsoever thanks, when I can't regulate my body temp on the best of days as it is. So yeah, my original comment still stands.
i just bought melatonin at walmart . it is 10mg. is that high? i am wondering if i should return it since i haven't opened it after watching this video. before i had used ZZQuil and NYQuil and those contain Diaphenedyamil
Why on earth are you believing what he has to say with no proof whatsoever. My own experience from years of using melatonin is that it is excellent to use any time you are having difficulty getting to sleep.
I just took three pills of melatonin and slept like a baby. I work on the railway overnights and for the life of me could not get used to the hrs for sleep. Average 2.5 hrs a day. Today with melatonin I slept for 5 hrs straight. In Canada you can buy Melatonin in the vitamin section of most stores.
Same. I have an extremely active brain. High I.Q., high stress, high stress life with lots of boxes that need to be checked... And I was getting increasingly used to being sleep deprived. So, I was getting really short shitty sleep recently. 5 - 7 hours a night. Not good. Melatonin knocks me out. It shuts my brain the fuck up and puts me to sleep. Then I can get good sleep. Being smart isn't enough. I need to learn, too. And that requires GOOD SLEEP.
@@manictiger LMAO, YOU CONSIDER 5-7 HOURS SLEEP DEPRIVED? Try being a 17 year old teenager (also high IQ, about 130) who's mind is constantly running 24/7, is a night owl, school starts at 7:30 and is a 1 hour long bus ride away, so I effectively have to wake up at 5:30 every morning and I live in eastern europe so the school system is quite different here (our school shift "shifts" every week), basically we start school at 7:30 one week, and then 2pm the second week, and the cycle repeats, every week, every year, used to be the same in middle school, on top of that have depression and insomnia, I pulled about 50 all nighters approx in the last 3 years, been late to school about 200 times, and I sleep about 1-3 hours one night and then 10 hours the other to regain sleep, I AM FUCKED, I'm about to take 10mg of this shit, I just bought it off the counter
Try having your exact same situation but requiring to do 3 hours of gym everyday also, and taking hours to fall asleep, and waking halfway. Also melatonin being illegal here
I tried one of your recipes yesterday and i couldn’t sleep last night. I made green matcha tea and it was really good. I’ll make sure i don’t drink it before bed time
Sorry but you are wrong you can buy it off the self here in Canada. I have used Melatonin for years as I am a shift worker. I use it to change my sleep cycle I take low dose and use it when my other tricks don’t work. For those of you who also shift work there are a few tricks that may help you. 1) routine always do the same things before going to sleep, such as I normally shave before going to bed. 2) Light - if you are coming off shift in the morning and it is nice and bright out that says you are to be a wake, fool yourself by wearing dark glasses. Make your home and bed room as dark as possible keep your dark glasses bed side so if you need to get up you can put them on. 3) Eye flutters this one needs more explaining. Here how you do this. You close your eyes and with them still closed you “look up” until your eyes start to flutter keep on doing this.... it is kind of like tricking your brain into acting like it is in R.E.M. sleep. I would like to thank you for the information you shared I was unaware of Magnesium role in sleep. Thank you. Hope my little tricks I picked up over the last 30 years help someone too.
America if you read the other post it seems to be sold throughout Europe and Asia too. Odd that he made such a error- his information is usually very accurate. The rest of the video is good and correct to the best of my knowledge.
I work in Health Care and at times work different shifts- my circadian cycle can really get messed up. I use to take up to 10 mg of melatonin, but started experiencing a disrupted sleep cycle-only sleep for 4 hrs, then be fully awake and couldn't go back to sleep. After years of taking this OTC supplement it finally occurred to me that I was turning off my own production of it and perhaps some of my other issues of weight gain and anxiety might be linked to it. I always had dark circles under my eyes no matter if I had 8 eight of OTC melatonin induced sleep. I slowly decreased the amount of OTC melatonin-breaking tablets into smaller amounts- and gotten to the point of taking 1 mg or less. Sometimes my body is just ready to sleep naturally. I have more energy now, exercise more, get out in nature to decompress. All the other products you mentioned helped me get back to a normal sleep cycle- daily Mg, the GABA and the Theanine products which I rarely take now.
I took 0.3mg (max amount per serving here in belgium without prescription) for the first time last night and I slept better than I have in months, maybe years. So I am a little sceptical about the 7-8 minutes scientifically proven gain. But thanks for pointing out the working and giving alternatives. I feel it is definitely not something to take for a long time.
I always knew that taking Melatonin is only if you really have to fix your sleep, not to make it a regular use, but, this breakdown was very helpful. I didn't know it could have a negative effect of throwing off things.
It doesn't have a negative effect in general. Everyone is different. Try it and see if your body likes it. If you're over 40 or 50 then you probably need it, every night.
The most important thing that you forgot to mention is that you want find out what causes your insomnia in the first place. You can help yourself with those supplements to get decent sleep but your main goal would be to find out whats the cause and then fixing the problem
Probably the most common cause of poor sleep today is cell phones, computers, tablets and TVs. Melatonin is created in the body in response to red light (signalling end of day.) All the devices we have that produce white or blue light work against this. Melatonin can be a safe crutch to help deal with these devices.
@@richardf911 no its stress and anxiety. Stress and anxiety create more adrenaline, which creates more cortisol. With such high cortisol, you don't produce enough serotonin. With no serotonin production, you can't create melatonin. Then when you can't sleep, you end up creating more cortisol and gut problems.
In Australia melatonin is available over the counter as well as in prescription form - over the counter is a weaker dosage Doctors generally prescribe it instead of harder sleeping pills like stilnox (ambien) etc. Melatonin prescriptions here are generally aimed at middle aged people, however doctors generally aren’t shy prescribing it to younger people Thank you for the quality content
Thomas, Melatonin it's now available over the counter in The Netherlands up to 7 mg. We have very strict medication laws. For example, Hydrocortisone 1 mg ointment is only available on prescription, while in the USA it's available in every supermarket. They took melatonin from the list of medical supplements. btw my wife is using melatonin 3mg time released for at least 10 years and is completely cured of her insomnia.
Thank you so much for sharing the info on this topic. I actually have been taking melatonin for months to try and help aid in sleep. And honestly not feeling like it's been doing anything for me. I have true insomnia and I refuse to take prescription sleep aid. I've literally tried everything else I can think of. This is great info to have. Again, thank you :)
You forgot to mention that bioavailability of melatonin for 2mg or 4mg oral tablets is only 15% of the original dose. So technically, if you are taking 2mg tablet you're only getting 0.3mg into ur blood. Thank for looking into this.
@@spencerwinchester2917 The sublingual tablets may do a little better, but the point is correct. Sublingual (under tongue) tablets go more directly into the bloodstream. Those are the flavored tablets that melt in your mouth.
Thank you so much for putting this video out there. I’m extremely sensitive and try to tell people that melatonin is a hormone and that is not beneficial! when I took it for the first time I got the worst headache and I knew it was garbage. So many people take this stuff and think it’s natural and good , but my highly tuned sensitive system says otherwise! Being highly physically sensitive is a blessing and a curse . The blessing is that I’m warned of things in small doses , the curse is that a lot of things out there make me sick .
For those of us who use mmj, and have for a long time, know that after yrs you don’t dream like you used to. I always used it to fall asleep since I’ve always suffered from severe anxiety and insomnia. But I recently read somewhere you shouldn’t use mmj to fall asleep as it prevents deep rem sleep. I started using melatonin a few months ago and it works wonders. Makes me fall asleep much faster than mmj, have normal dreams and stay asleep through the night. I’ve actually stopped using mmj at night, and only a little through out the day. Now, I feel like I’m going backwards..? I also started using Valerian Root and man, I REALLY feel less depressed. Like, I don’t freak out anymore when I go to work in the morning and my kids go to school. I’ve been seeking out other things than mmj because I’ve been using for 18 yrs and it just fogs my thinking more than I’m okay with.
Good vid mate, I found out about the bad side of melatonin a while back from various studies/articles and tapered off. I think the problem is some of the biggest research on melatonin only came out since 2016 or so, so most of us were relying on outdated "good advice" from last decade before scientists cared about really checking the stuff.
It has to be a difference in how often you take melatonin. Let's say I supplement occasionally 1 evening out of 10, that wouldn't make such a huge negative impact on my own melatonin levels? I do agree it's better to try to let your own body regulate it. But here in Sweden during winter it can really screw with me. It gets dark around 4 p.m and when I normally go to bed I'm not tired from all the artifical lightning.
my theory is that exogenous melatonin dies off and u have to the next day again to recover and for your body to start producing its own again. and after all,, when u firs ttake melatonin at night ur body should have made a good amount itself before u down the pill.. its not like testosterone where it stays in ur body for weeks ``
Isn't melatonin also a very powerful antioxidant? So having surplus in the body it essentially scoops up those oxidized cells get scooped up and disposed of... Also for some of us a reduction in sperm count isn't a negative selling point.
Always welcome useful information on falling and staying asleep. Hey, Thomas, would you consider doing a video on natural, effective steps to balance hormones in women? Would be great if you could, and include the three women’s life phases impacting hormone levels and how to address each of the them. Thank you! 💪
Years ago i was taking 10-20 mg every night it definitely helped me sleep for abit but i needed more and more as time went on. Once i quit them i had wicked insomnia for years. Now living a healthier lifestyle i can finally have a good sleep.
Oh fuck I've been taking it for about 3 years and now I'm one year of 10-20mgs a night and it doesn't even work anymore I'm coming off and I've been up for 24 hrs I'm fucked
I wouldn't. I don't think there is anything that Joe Rogan, or his format, could contribute that isn't already here on this channel. Every video here is short enough and backed by enough evidence that you don't need to go anywhere else. It would mostly be Joe chiming in with personal anecdotes and half-remembered scientific research he's regurgitating from people who actually know things. That being said I would still listen to it.
@@spyroninja Sounds like you're jealous of Joe Rogan there buddy... Actually, Thomas doesn't chill and discuss his journey and life experiences, education, challenges overcome, background, inspirations, etc. Joe Rogan is really good at drawing these subjects out very naturally, Thomas would be very willing to share them, and all parties involved would enjoy the experience. I say EXCELLENT idea! Two thumbs up!!
I am a really poor sleeper and need help. Difficult to fall asleep, difficult to stay asleep. Searching for answers! So what kind of magnesium is recommended? Glycinate - Citrate - Malate? What's best and how do they differ? How soon before going to bed should they be taken?
CALLED IT! For years I've figured that by taking exogenous melatonin over time, consistently, burns out your body's ability to produce its own melatonin! Granted, I don't know the specifics, but...
This seems not to be true. Granted the research isn't voluminous. No money in it. But what has been done suggests it's not at all destructive or irreversible.
Melatonin never worked for me. In fact, it often has the opposite effect. it also gives me terrible headaches. Fortunately, I identified the source of my insomnia. Unfortunately, it's my job. I sleep like a baby on weekends and holidays. It's the night before work that my brain ramps up thinking about the tasks I have to perform the next day. Can't afford to quit though.
OmSquash! Thank you so much! This is truth folks and thats what we really need in the world today. Ethics and Honesty. Helping people with truthful info.
One of the problems i had was because i used my phone before bed. i tried the night mode but that didn’t do anything. i saw these glasses that block the blue light being advertised on twitter and i’ve been sleeping really good ever since. This is NOT an advertisement, it was on styleblu.co
You can also use Reishi , from Four Sigmatic , has same effect as magnesium in a way . My protocol before sleep is Magnesium Threonate or Glycinate plus Reishi mushroom , plus cold room , plus dark room = proper sleep !
Melatonin saved my life. I know it’s not ideal/natural but the pressures of the rat race are not natural either and in a situation where its difficult to get sleep medication from the Dr (which is v addictive anyway), melatonin is the next best thing. I’m only alive now because of melatonin. If life ever calms down I will then wean myself off. Until then, ideals don’t grow on trees and I have to do the best I can. I love and appreciate your content xx
What you say is so true. Although Melatonin helped me for a short amount of time; it actually started to interfere with my sleep. What I have found helpful is Tart Cherry Extract which is a precursor to Melatonin and so you only make as much as you need. It is also good for arthritis. I also take Magnesium. Frankly I've had better results with Magnesium Citrate for sleep as Magnesium Glycinate seemed to give me very loose bowel movements The other supplement that I recommend is Blackseed Oil, which is a very powerful anti- inflammatory. In general taking supplements that support overall health and aren't specifically aimed at one issue are the best. The components for good sleep are complex and I think differ amongst individuals depending on their specific needs; so it is good to find which supplements work best for you.
Here is my amateur take on it. I will break the habit of just taking it every night. I kind of know when I will have a bad night trying to sleep beforehand. I'll take it then, just not as a routine. This probably means twice a week as opposed to every night.
I've been taking it for years also; two, to be exact. I've suffered from insomnia since I was a child and I'm also recovering from alcoholism. If it wasn't melatonin, it would surely be prescription medication. Those are dangerous and are addictive. Melatonin is the safest thing I've found. Sleep is VERY important, especially to a guy like me. I've heard varying recommendations for its long term use, and this is the only time I've heard to never use it long term. Nothing is ever recommended on a long term basis for sleeo, not even perfectly natural cannabis. Prescription meds that make you crazy are, though. If it works for you, keep using it. That's my advice. You can always invest in the more high quality, organically sourced variety later. I hope this answers your question. 😊
Melatonin helped get rid of acid reflux! I also take GABA, L-Theanine, lemon balm, camomile but slight anxiety can wake me up a few times during night!
How long does it take the body to recover from melatonin abuse? I went through a period of dosing melatonin every time I wanted to sleep, using a weird variation of polyphasic sleep to do 4 hour periods of intense wakeful work followed by sleep around the clock. Would not surprise me if I was popping 12mils or more per day for three to four months. This was a number of years ago that I quit cold turkey but I still feel that my sleep quality should be better
Also good , low glycemic, starchy carbs before bed can help as well , it get converted into tryptophan, which gets into the brain and gets converted into melatonin
Mehdi Noori I thought it was just me but I didn't think it had anything to do with it since it was supposed to be natural I'm glad I ran across your comment
Maybe taking too much. Ideally we should take only half a milligram. But I've never been able to find half a milligram. So I take 1mg. Works like a charm for me!
The nightmares were terrible, but at least I did sleep. I wouldn't wake up though unless sunlight coming from the window got quite bright, or temp in room went up. I take unisom now--the one without benadryl. I wake up several times, but do get a few hours sleep. Insomnia sucks big time.
Can you do a detailed video on DOMS? I am a big baby with muscle soreness. I know some people convince themselves that muscle soreness feels good but I’m not onboard with that. So basically what Im asking for is can you please do a very detailed video on self care when the soreness is due to normal training & not injury. But adding how to be less likely to become injured would also be helpful.
Just watched a cancer doctor do a seminar on melatonin. He has been taking 180mg a day for years. There is a good amount of research that he showed. I just took 60mg last night and I slept great for seven hours. I'm gonna take 100mg tonight. I also take magnesium and theanine at night. I have had insomnia for twenty five years and had to take Amitriptyline to sleep. Now at 50 I wanted off of it.
i really only use melatonin a few days a month and that is when i haven't been getting enough sleep for days on end and i'm feeling warn out from waking up in the middle of the night all the time. it's good to know my instincts where right not to take it often and also to not take so much of it. i've been only taking 1 mg instead of the 3 mg others take because i have melatonin in liquid form and i just never wanted to get addicted to sleeping meds. i just use it as an aid to catch up on sleep i'm just not getting even though i have the time and will to get more sleep. i'll try some magnesium and if that doesn't work, i'll try l-theanine.
Nor everyone who gets stung by a bee dies from swelling of throat and lack of oxygen. Point is Thomas is referring to the majority. Use the brain transmitters in your head to understand what your eyes and ears project....
I am dependent on melatonin. As I am dependent on caffeine. I'll try to taper off my dosages, but sleep has always been hard for me and melatonin helps a lot, so I've been taking it for over 10 years.
A very insightful article for consideration when deciding to take regular doses of melatonin. Thomas's negative feedback loop system is a logical valid reason NOT to take melatonin. We can infer from his discussion that any new drug/hormone/supplement could disrupt our own biological equilibrium possibly to its detriment. His article therefore urges us to sensibly evaluate the use of any substance we introduce into our bodies without relying on blind faith.A lot more research needs to be undertaken on melatonin.
Thomas: Melatonin fall from age, so you dont have the full melatonin of when we're young. More older, less melatonin.. more problem taking sleep...(more cortisol) so have a sense take when you have certain age, not 18y.o of course! Melatonin dont need to be high, the 0.6gr. is the exact need. So 1gr. capsule are enought. Another thing: There is 400 times more melatonin in our gut than in our pineal gland !!! With food can increase or decrease melatonin. You can try, with melatonin return to make dreams. Thats good for get to the body rejuvenation phase.
When will sleep be deep again after taking 3-10mg melatonin for two weeks? My sleep is not as deep yet after two months of stopping taking it. Melatonin suppresses LH. I thank you for any answers you may have.
I have had great luck with melatonin. I def. don't experience a melatonin hang over. I always had a hang over feeling before I started taking melatonin! I only take .5-1.5 mg and I feel like I sleep better through the night. I feel more rested when I wake up and better throughout the day. I started hearing about the side affects and have been weening myself off. Now that I'm off I feel like crap again from poor sleep...
Excellent presentation. Would you please clarify the negative comments about Dr. Weiss recently. I thought the dual presentation was good. He is a Cardiologist and Holistic Physician, what should be wrong with that.
I stopped taking Melatonin years ago because, after a few months of taking it, I was not able to stay asleep. I recently switched from Calm to a magnesium spray that contains brine. I use 6-10 sprays per leg and over my heart, which seems to work when combined with a therapeutic grade Cedarwood essential oil, along with a diffuser of Lavender oil. Are the magnesium supplements better? My issue is staying asleep. What I'm currently using gets me about 6 hrs of uninterrupted sleep. The other issue is night hot flashes.
Can you please explain more? I've recently started taking them, I've believed since my teenage years that I have bipolar due to the alternating manic/depression periods. Melatonin has at least helped me rest better when I was earlier waking up 3-4 times a night due to extreme stress.
@@LazyChristy bipolar causes circadian rythym disorders in many people. It does for me! Melatonin helps get it back to a normal cycle. My sleep doctor told me to use light therapy lamp in the morning and melatonin at night to fix my delayed sleep disorder from bipolar.
Here in Nicaragua and all over Central America melatonin is available over the counter at your local pharmacy not sure elsewhere , just saying. Great vids man.
Great video Thomas, Thank you. I've used ZMA in the past and found it helps getting a deeper sleep. It can cause vivid dreams. Also look into the havening technique. It enhances natural Serotonin and GABA production. Great to do for 10 minutes before bedtime to enhance sleep.
I haven’t tried melatonin in years and am desperate to tale something for my insomnia other than the Lunesta I take once or twice a week. Magnesium/potassium alone hasn’t helped. I just bought melatonin and l-theanine to take. We will see what happens and I will alternate with nights of magnesium and l-theanine and see how it goes. I used to have glycine in the house and may have to try that again too.
Question. The supplement may be 3mg, but is our body actually processing that much after digestion? I find it hard to believe that these supplements are going into our blood stream at a rate of the 3mg, not the .25mg our body produces
I actually have a problem with taking Melatonin, I walk around in my sleep, even yell and bang things when I take it so I stopped taking it in change for Valerian root. We will see how it goes
👍Thank you! This info is right on time. I’ve been discussing this very issue that I’ve had a long while. I APPRECIATE all of the research you do so we don’t have to (or don’t have to do as much research).💞
Thanks sooo much for this! I have been doing exactly everything wrong. Including taking calcium and magnesium together and when I breakfast, not for sleep. And my sleep couldn't be worse. I have work to do.
If you think that the rice is making you weak, then go back to eating bread and observe your reactions. If you go back to normal, that means there might be something wrong with the rice or you cant tolerate it.
Magnesium Glycinate ... Magnesium & Glycine together, save yourself some money and use this form of magnesium, and then use L-Theanine as well I'm stuck using 3mg of melatonin, I struggle to sleep without it, but I get really good sleep with it, and I don't wake up with a "melatonin hangover" But it does make sense that the body would have a negative feedback loop in place, so now I need to taper off somehow..
