The 2018 King Salman FIDE World Rapid Championship is a 15-round Swiss open taking place in St. Petersburg, Russia from 26-28 December. The prize fund is $350,000, with $60,000 for 1st place. The time control is 15 minutes per player for all moves, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If there is a tie for 1st place, the top two players will compete in a play-off match consisting of two 3+2 blitz games.
If the score is still level, the players play a sudden death or Armageddon game. The player who wins the drawing of lots may choose the color. The player with the white pieces gets 5 minutes to Black's 4 (with a 2-second increment after move 60), but a draw counts as a win for Black. Official website: wrbc2018.com/en

The changes to your channel I liked best over the past year were 1) Putting faces and names together on the left panel. This really helped me to recall players and their styles, 2) Your showing of alternate lines in more depth and the traps or advantages to such lines, 3) Making time to allow the viewer to solve 1-3 chess problems over the board in a given position, 4) Little anecdotes concerning the player(s) to make them more human, and 5) Stating certain chess principles while making the moves over the board so that the lessons sink in. Antonio, in my opinion, the primary reason that your channel has grown so much: 1. you are prepared when you present the game & you do it quickly.2. your videos are about more than just the game, you give us history & so much more. For those who want to just be entertained, it takes only a few minutes [15 or so], for those who want to study the lines you present, we can slow it down to 3/4 speed, or just pause. it must be obvious to anyone that you have put in a lot of work to present a professional vlog. All one has to do is watch one of your earlier videos. YOU have grown, in your skillful presentation of your videos, every bit as much as the channel itself has. Congrats on a job well done! Hard work pays off! :)

Chess content aside, this is one of the best run youtube channels. Original, well-thought out content, and you really listen to the community. Hello Tony. I'm glad to be part of this ever growing community. What really drew me and made me stick to this channel is the way you handle your videos. There's a lot of humanity in it. From the "Hello everyone!" to "I'm sorry about that," makes me feel connected to the humanity of chess. You are not presumptuous and you are very humble. This is how your unedited videos come across. Although you could have edited out the obvious bloopers, you did not (My favorite is when you are trying to move a black pawn to a5, when its supposed to be a white pawn. It gave me a good laugh and you made my day). Chess is a human art. And this seeming imperfections made me feel at home in your channel. Because I (more than I like it) make a lot of bloopers, too. You have a way of making n00bs like me feel at home. Even when explaining the "idea behind a move," (although very obvious for high rated players like you) it seems like subscribers like me does not have to feel embarrassed for not seeing it. Most of us are here just to enjoy the show and enjoy we do. And the cool thing is that we get educated in the science and art of chess as a big fat bonus. Congratulations, you are an excellent RU-vid content provider. Now, Reti or not, I need to click the next video.

Over 1,000,000 views? he's the best commentator and chess analyst I have watched online. There may be better but I have no desire to find them if they exist, which I doubt. Subscribers number is a benchmark, but what you really should know and be proud of is you showed so many the beauty of chess and you made so many come to chess and love it the way it should be. Hey Antonio, just want to wish you happy new year and to give you my idea of what made your channel explode this year with so many newcomers. I'm not a player, and I just enjoy watching the game, and whenever you watch professional commentary the level of explanation and terminology gets too intense for the layman, like me. Your friendly explanation of situation makes chess appeal to everyone, regardless of their level of play. Even people, who don't know the rules and call knights "horsies" are intrigued by the compelling strategies and alternative analysis of the board. #suggestion Sergey Karjakin vs Jan-Krzysztof Duda in the 17th round of the WBC 2018 is quite exciting 79 move game, ending in a stalemate. It seems like someone should have won it. Amazingly end game where knight holds off black queening pawn, long enough for white king to arrive to create stalemate.
