We are sad to tell you about the passing of one of our retired K-9s. Bety took her final walk on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 with handler Cpl. Childs, his family, and former NNSO handler K.Taylor at her side. The 12-year-old Belgian Malinois was an explosives detection K-9. She served the Newport News Sheriff's Office from 2014-2022, making sweeps around the Courthouses and other locations when needed. Bety was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 2011-2014 and worked for the Va. State Police. She retired in July 2022 and lived with the Childs family until this sad day came. Following a cancer diagnosis and when treatment stopped working, it was finally time to say farewell and ease her pain.
There at Southampton Vet Clinic to honor her for her years of faithful service and loyalty were K-9 handlers from the Isle of Wight Co. Sheriff's Office, ODU Police Dept., American K-9 Interdiction, Southampton Co. Sheriff's Office, Windsor Police Dept., Suffolk Police Dept., VABC Commission, and members of the NNSO. RIP, Bety. Good girl. #k9 #belgianmalinois #newportnews
