I just got two of these for free from a neighbor, boxed, with 15 CIB games. One works great, the other is inop. I'm so stoked to see this and pick it up!
@@theflowpowa42oshowAnd I am! Seriously, compared to how ridiculous modern gaming is, and the cost of the Vectrex itself is pulling, getting a free working one is thrilling.
There’s one hardware mod in particular that I’d love to see; a video output that lets you record your gameplay to a VCR. (It would obviously need a rasterizer though…)
I had two Vectrex, lots of cartridges (including a couple of quite exclusive ones I believe). However both failed after a while and I got rid of them. I've regretted this since however we can't keep absolutely everything we ever come across. Some of the games were really fun and the memories of the sound coming out of the game are something else.
Your partner there was jealous... I had an og one in 83, screen went in like 88, in the trash...then 5 yrs ago I found one in the trash and IT WORKED! So, be jealous of that. LOL, great vid, about to get me a PiTrex
Have the pitrex- but that Malban fellow who makes the software didn’t include the whole orig library on it - more like a smorgasbord , and whatever MAME roms (only v2.6) that may or may not work. About half don’t work, and rom hunting can drive you nuts for this!
$1000 USD for a Vectrex is far too much to pay - market value for just the machine is $400-500 depending on condition and if boxed. of course depends on what else is included.
Great video, but "At least 1000 US"? No way.. That's just not true. If it came with a bunch of games, extra controllers, etc, then maybe, but otherwise, be patient and you'll land a nice, working one for less than half of that. 😉 Ebay isn't everything too, you know.. People in the Vectrex facebook group and elsewhere routinely sell them for half of that. $300-500 for a loose one with a controller and no games has pretty much been the norm, but nowadays, people are a bit over optimistic with asking prices. Heck, I ought to sell a couple of my 4 units if people are crazy enough to start paying a grand each! 😜
The display is actually NOT a dedicated vector monitor. It's an off-the-shelf Samsung B&W CRT. There are homebrew Vectrex games that actually use raster graphics! They look terrible...but the Vectrex can do raster graphics.
New Sub. I wanna see who tries to make Vectrex Minecraft lol There's a new 8-bit Wolf3D! Always wanted one of these, and got to witness one, but once it became my turn to play we had to leave. I got to slap a button to fire something in MineStorm...
I stopped watching this at 4 mins because all I was doing was counting his akshuallys. The count at 4:00 is 10 by my watch. What was he saying other than "akshually"? No idea. Haven't a clue, nor do I care. That dude needs to learn how to write a script because when he wings it, all he does is say "akshually" over and over and over and over and akshually over again.
