The main issue would be laggy animations, but since there's an okay GPU and drivers, I can see why it runs alright. Now they're making Windows 11 not bootable on pre core-i series computers because of AI bloat and garbage though. Will be interesting to see if there's a workaround.
I had one of those that was maxed out back in the day the blank in the express card slot should have came with a remote in some models The 16:10 1920x1200 optional screen was ahead of it's time. It was the inspiration for my current laptop. Found out I can't deal with 16:9 in a laptop. I wished mine had an intel nic mine had a broadcom unit which started my disdain for their network adapters. I used the crap out of that machine and it ran super hot like really hot. I remember my motherboard dying and dell replaced it. Mine came with vista ultimate and I am pretty sure it ran as 64 bit but I ended up switching to another drive doing so many reinstalls that I killed a few of them so it is hard to tell. I remember testing out the windows 7 beta releases on this computer. I have fond memories of that machine.
Simcity 3000 and 4 will not run properly on Windows Vista onwards. But you can create a shortcut to the exe with the window flag to enable windowed mode.
@@tyler6602 Maxis software was really bad for compatibility. Plus, the games hog the system resources even leaving the game sitting idle. Was quite frustrating hearing the cpu fan on and on just because I was just playing for 20 minutes or so.
I still have my Product(RED) version with a blu-ray reader/writer and I just reinstalled windows vista to it. Although I might install a linux distro to it.
I had this Laptop, in 2008 when it came out I played Half Life 2 and other games without Problems on it. The Performacne was ... "okay" ! ... After that i switched to Ubuntu 8.10 only, it was a really good experience. Only the Machines, gap dimensions were not good !
Love the video! I also have this model of laptop that I picked up for cheap from the thrift store. Hoping yours will continue working smoothly without any GPU issues. How hot does your CPU typically run? Trying to figure out if the temperatures on mine are normal or not.
I was gifted an M1530 years back from a family friend. As a kid I wanted the 13 inch version (M1330) and was so excited when I was gifted this M1530! Mine has the 8400m instead but for what I use it for I need nothing more powerful. I might consider a CPU Upgrade though.
It may not be the computer. It may not be the charger what I mean is the charger works the computer works, I’ve seen this before the charger and the computer do some type of communication I’ve seen dell computers before I think they did that to prevent or at least try to prevent people from using what they think are knock off chargers when in reality there’s absolutely no use for that. I think that’s why it did not catch on with other manufactures.
I have the slightly newer Dell Studio XPS 1640 that shares many similarities with this. I used it as a daily driver for the best part of 10 years with only a few issues. I still have it and it still works fine, except for a dead battery which is only the result of me giving it to my sister for a while after I upgraded and she ended up not using it so never powered it on.
I have an xps m1330, I did also have an m1530 but it had some wild mobo issues, I also have parts from a second m1330, but none of the batteries; The 1 intact m1330 couldn't charge or use the intact batteries I had, but the previously working m1330 I tore apart could, until it died, presumably cos of mobo issues too
I'm ngl, this is the ugliest laptop I've ever seen. I think it would've been better if they stuck with all silver instead of the black that doesn't match anything.
This Laptop is like Asus X441MA, currently used by my Mom 😅. Has both VGA and HDMI the main point I mean Well, the only difference is... It use Windows 10 and has more modern Processor (it's entry level in 2017, though) 😅
Pro tip: Press spacebar to skip the long memory test. Those trackpads are actually pretty good in this era though. Often even better than some from today's computer.
I had the blue version of this laptop at university and I adored it. Unfortunately after a few years it was affected by the nvidia chip rot that was all too common in those days, and even a free GPU replacement and the occasional solder reflow in an oven couldn't save it, or I would have used it for many more years
Bad idea. The display will freeze if he lets the screen go suspended. They didn't fix this issue until build 252xx/3xx but there isn't an RTM that he can use. Also Windows 11 has more junk and the laptop will be in constant use in background tasks. The laptop will be more warmer than if he has Windows 10 installed. The next Windows 11 release for public use ditches old cpus like the one in use in this laptop. If he tries to install Windows 11 26100 which will be the 24H2 release late this year, he will see that he will need a cpu that has SSE4.2 and Popcnt but no Core2Duo has these features. Windows 10 will be the perfect OS for this laptop. Btw... it's Michael MJD.
@chargingchuck798 The screen will not freeze when we let display go to suspension when using ATI or Intel gpus. This problem seems only to happen with Nvidia 8xxx/9xxx/GT 1xx/2xx/... However the ATI gpus may not like cinematic lightning or other things that involves gpu intensive tasks and you will hear the fan/s ramp up.
