Star Trek: Voyager -- Elite Force is a first-person shooter video game developed by Raven Software and published by Activision. The game was initially released on September 20, 2000 for Windows and Mac OS personal computers. Aspyr Media was responsible for porting the game to the Mac OS platform. Elite Force was later ported to the PlayStation 2 console by Pipe Dream Interactive and published by Majesco Entertainment on December 11, 2001.
The game is set in the Star Trek universe, specifically relating to the fourth Star Trek television series, Star Trek: Voyager. The dates in the game place Elite Force's plot late in Voyager's sixth season. The player assumes the role of Ensign Alex Munro, a member of the Hazard Team, a new elite security section created to deal with particularly dangerous and hostile away missions. The game's plot focuses on the USS Voyager being trapped in a starship graveyard, heavily damaged and under attack from a variety of hostile factions. The Hazard Team is tasked with protecting Voyager as repairs are made, and investigating the cause of their entrapment.
Elite Force was one of several Star Trek games announced after Activision secured the license to Star Trek video games from Viacom in 1998. The game was one of the first to license id Tech 3, a game engine by id Software used by a number of video games during the early 2000s. Elite Force was a critical success, and is often praised as the first truly successful Star Trek video game, able to appeal to people who were not Star Trek fans. Raven Software released an expansion pack to the game in May 2001, whilst Wildstorm adapted the story for a short graphic novel in July 2000. A sequel developed by Ritual Entertainment, Star Trek: Elite Force II, was published in 2003.

This was such a tight shooter. No bugs that I encountered, and felt like playing through an actual Voyager episode.

There were plenty of bugs. I’ve killed them all.

I know this an old comment but I felt to point out one bug. Not sure what caused it but the cutscenes broke and munroes torso disappeared and his head and gun were floating on top of his hips. I don't mean there was empty spot where his torso was supposed to be. I mean his head and gun were a few inches away from his groin. The best part was that for the rest of my playthrough it stayed that way and when game play resumed munroes eye level was groin height. Maybe the funniest bug I've ever seen.

I remember getting this game on a demo disk when i was very young, i had no idea it was a TV show. Once i stayed up late and then we seen it on TV and me and my brother was like hey it's them people from that game. After that i've been a big ST fan thanks to this game.

I loved this game, they made a expansion pack for it that was really a love letter to star trek fans, it let you explore the ship, and go to all the locations you would see on the show. Multiplayer was great too, spent hours on Star Trek Role-play servers.

I played this game recently, and I do have to mention one complaint I had with the game that wasn't mentioned in the video. While you do get a wide variety of weapons, all your weapons draw off only two ammo pools. The only exception for this is the sidearm phaser, which quickly and indefinately recharges ammo. So if you, for instance, decide to have some fun and spam the game's rocket launcher all over the place, you 're running out of ammo for half your weapons at the same time. I felt this discouraged varied weapon use in favor of finding the most ammo-efficient solution for each ammo pool. The discouragement of weapon selection only gets worse in the Borg levels. While it's nice to see that, like in the show, they adapt to weapons fire and become immune to it, it means that for the entirety of the level you are outright forced to use only a single weapon which was given the special property to bypass the Borg's adaptation. I wouldn't say this is a deal breaker, especially if you do like the setting and show, but it is something that drags down the fun a little.

This was actually my first exposure to Voyages and I absolutely loved this game. While just straightforward as the review indicates, it also managed to pull off the impossible: create a fairly kickass game that kept to some of the peace, live and harmony ideals through the story.

If you like Voyager, this is a must play. If you like Trek in general, this is a must play, since it's easily among top 3 best Star Trek games ever made. If you're a casual fan of Trek, you should still play it, since it doesn't require you to know anything about Voyager before playing it (I didn't when I played it for the first time back in the day, and it was still really fun). If you've never heard of or followed Trek, but like Sci-Fi shooters, you should still play it, since it is a fine SF shooter with a cool story and it may even get you into Star Trek. btw Among many ST and Voyager references and tributes, there's also a little surprise here for all of you fans of the Mirror Universe.
@rogerlynch5279
@rogerlynch5279 10 лет назад
I am a big fan of the MIRROR UNIVERSE stories myself but here is a fun fact for TRAKIES. GERMANS generally don´t care for this topic; because of a hidden WW II reference, maybe.
@Tehstroyer
@Tehstroyer 9 лет назад
Rather late, but what are the other 2 top Star Trek games?
@AB-xd8hm
@AB-xd8hm 9 лет назад
Tehstroyer That's debatable, so here's one possible answer. A tense FMV adventure game from 1996 called: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Borg While it is a great story-driven little thriller, fans of the Borg and mischievous Q (who gets somewhat serious here) will get the most out of it (since the rest of the famous ST characters don't star here). Too bad one of the shows didn't copy this storyline as well. If you can't find it, or don't want to play it, there are couple of full walkthroughs on RU-vid and they play like an actual 60 min ST movie. Star Trek: Bridge Commander is supposedly the best ST simulator (don't like the space simulator genre, so I can't comment on it any further). There are other decent ST games (several 2D adventures with classic Trek crew and even more strategy games based on other ST series), but these three (Voyager, Borg and Commander) could be considered the top of the crop.

I really liked that the Holomatches were easy to set up and the bots actually know how to play Capture the Flag. In Elite Force II, they just run around half the level trying to shoot you with the hand phaser, even if you're on the other side of the level. My one complaint is that Raven often uses cutscenes for things you should be doing yourself. For example in the tutorial mission, did we really need a cutscene to show Munroe shooting the control panel? Or a cutscene showing Tuvok berating us for having done it? Wouldn't it have been much better if the player had arrived at the decision to shoot the panel on their own? Then Tuvok wouldn't be lecturing us for something that we had no control over. Why do the dialog scenes need to be cutscenes rather than letting us experience them in-game? Raven relies on cutscenes far too much.
@rogerlynch5279
@rogerlynch5279 10 лет назад
The bots had been quite intelligent. The only CAPTURE THE FLAG game you can play solo
@Cephalopod51
@Cephalopod51 10 лет назад
I absolutely agree with that. Elite Force would have benefited from giving more choice to the player. There are a bunch of moments in the game where your choices do matter. I think they fell back on the cutscenes due to time constraints and budget limitations.
@lurkerrekrul
@lurkerrekrul 10 лет назад
Roger Lynch Actually, the bots in Postal II play a decent game of Capture the Flag, although it's called something like Snatch the Babe.
@lurkerrekrul
@lurkerrekrul 10 лет назад
Cephalopod51 Most all Raven games have far too many cutscenes. Jedi Academy has one level where the entire first minute of a boss fight is a cutscene! It even has a cutscene to show you jumping through a hole in the wall. You might be thinking that the cutscene covers up the transition to another level, or that something amazing happens as you jump through. Nope, you land in some kind of compactor and have to jump out before you get squashed. Then you can force-jump back out of the hole to the room you were just in.

One of my all-time favourite games - pre Steam account days but I ploughed 1000s of hours into this. The multiplayer was what made this game awesome and endlessly replayable. The community at the time was brilliant, too - countless custom skins and maps. Such a shame that it's not available on Steam.

I commented on this six years ago to say that my one complaint was that Raven often uses cutscenes to show your character doing things that you should be doing yourself, like shooting the panel at the end of the tutorial mission. However I do have another complaint, which is a slight spoiler: Your teammates don't actually need you. While they're not as aggressive as you at shooting enemies, they can't die unless it's a scripted event. If you enable invulnerability, you can just sit back and watch as your team slaughters everything in sight. An entire horde of Species 8472? No problem! It'll take a while, but they'll eventually kill them all. I didn't know this during my first playthrough, but knowing it now removes any feeling of concern you might have over the wellbeing of the other crew members. I suppose it makes sense as they all have dedicated voice actors so you can't have them just getting killed off, and people would probably find it annoying if you failed the mission when they died, but even so, it would have added a nice touch of realism to have them actually be at risk.

I think the game is excellent and aged pretty well aside of the graphics which are much better in the sequel. The AI is pretty good and it managed to get a quite good squad based single player adventure. I also find the level design is more inventive than in the sequel. I love the sequel, but this one have less inspired weapon design and only two ammo types (which isn't the case of the multiplayer) The main problem of the two ammo types is that it renders the weaker weapons, not very useful in the end of the game. I also didn't liked much the weapon design in the gameplay department. Otherwise I kind of liked the enemies and the whole good representation of star trek. I think it's a very good game, that I enjoy playing from time to time.

Yes STAR TREK never dies!, the titel of DAVID GERROLDs book THE WORLD OF STAR TREK. THE SHOW THE NETWORK COULD NOT KILL! from1973 still stands as a statement. He also has written another book called: THE STORY BEHIND A STAR TREK SHOW! " THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES" THE BIRTH, SALE AND FINAL PRODUCTION OF ONE EPISODE. 1973; both of BALLANTINE BOOKS. I am shure there will be sooner or later a new series about a Young Crew like in the last movies on the long run. Maybe even one or two games but this time not by RAVEN SOFTWARE anymore. I never understood why RAVEN had been accused to be a traitor to the STAR TREK concept. When you look at the episodes of the classic series from the Sixties and the Next Gen., even VOYAGER, there were trouly wild episodes among them in the show concepts.
