As a fan of the Gobots and the Challenge of the Gobots animated series (65 classic Hanna-Barbera Episodes), this was awesome to see such an awesome span of pretty much all of the figures in the line and more, all in one feature-length video. You have an amazing Gobots collection, Mike! Thanks for taking the time to showcase every figure here, explaining the details of each and their robot and alternate vehicle form. Cy-Kill was my first Gobot as a kid, and I still remember the moment I was opening it up in Wendy's back then while eating lunch. What a cool figure, and I went on to collect a good number soon after that. They're a nice line and very affordable back then. The TV show is entertaining, with Leader 1, Scooter and Turbo vs Cy-Kill, Crasher and Coptor as the main leads. Scooter (voiced by Frank Welker) could be brave in a number of episodes thankfully. I bet it took a lot of time and editing to put this all together. Thank you!
The show was fun even though Transformers overshadowed it. Funny you bring up Wendys because they had their own line of gobots I may feature in a video down the road. Yes this one was a lot of work and glad you enjoyed
I used to fold and tuck Pincher's arms under his wings, I thought it made it look sleeker when he is in bird/jet mode. Mine, was also Black. He was sold as a Gobot. Alot of the "knock offs" are the original, Japanese, toys. If you check them, they will have Japanese stamped onto a more metal body. Up here in Massachusetts, we had quite a few neighborhood/bodega/corner stores that sold these type of toys under another comany name. Before Tonka secured the rights. Snoop is an SR-71 Blackbird. The Night Raven is based on that. You were right it was an A-10 Warthog. The Rattle was based on. Wrong way became an Apache attack helicopter.
I had Machine Robo Bike Robo (pre-Go-Bots) in 1983. I was today years old when I learned his engine could be attached to his arm. Thank you for making me realize how much of my childhood was lost for not having known this.
I bought the original 12 when they first came out. They hit the store shelves before The Transformers did. But, I didn't have the money to keep up with them, so after the first 12, I just bought the ones I liked, like the monsters and Leader-1. I regret to this day not getting all of them at the time they were in the stores.
I loved Go-bots as a kid, but didn’t know most of these you have in this vid. Since I’ve completed my Transformers collection , I think I’m going to start getting the whole Go-Bots set now, thanks to your video.
My friend. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!! I started off with GoBots as a kid, had roughly 10 of them and I enjoyed them very much. As I got into Transformers, my father kept calling my TF "GoBots" because he knew it annoyed me lol... I had the hydroplane, the submarine, the alien crab, the big black porch, and the jeep. I played the hell out of them. They got so lose and scratched. I wish I still had them!
This is a great review of the Go-Bots line. I was more of a GI Joe, TF kid, but I liked Go-Bots, had a good number of them and didn't miss an episode of the cartoon. This video brings back some great memories and learning about Cy-kill's engine on the arm gimmick blew my mind.
I really enjoyed this deep dive into Gobots/Machine Men! It's great to see both modes and the variants you included. I loved Gobots for their affordability and quick/simple transformations. Thanks mate!
Great collection. Loved seeing them in both modes. I only ever owned a couple of toys from this line, so this was a fun way for me to learn a whole lot more about them.
I only ever had 2 Gobots, Cop-Tur and Scooter. I was more into Transformers, but I did love my two little Gobots. Cop-Tur would be a scout for my Decepticon Jets and Scooter was Bumblebees friend.
It amazes me how many of these I can remember having as a kid! Everybit as much fun as Transformers to a little twerp, and So much easier to talk mom & dad into buying over Transformers. I always pretended Cy-Kills Motor was the Astro-Beam. I liked the Green and Black version too. It looked more EVIL than the Red White and Blue Cy-Kill.
i believe some of that price for the skyline would be because of the history lore and recent obsession with the nissan skyline in general not so much this one , it is my most revered modern skyline tho love the r30 and dr30
An Amazing Collection, the fact that you have at least 2 of each is Awesome!!!! And as a Toy Collection on You Tube.... You Display it better than most
This collection is very nostalgic i known transformers were the number 1 transforming robots but my childhood transforming bots was Gobots had a ton of them.
That yellow Slicks was made by Imperial. They were first released as a Pepsi promo in North America (actually before Gobots were officially released), and later could be found at some Esso locations. A few of these Imperial bots only came through the Ppepsi promo and not Esso, and are a bit rare as a result. Imperial actually changed the moulds of a few of these, as seen in Slicks. Slicks is actually one of my favorites. His engineering exemplifies Gobot design. Really neat design for part of it, and compromising for the rest being really derpy. His chest design is fantastic, has interesting things going on with his feet and legs...but then has stick arms, zero leg articulation, complicated leg panel flaps and engine that ultimately doesnt meaningfully do anything and just hangs as kibble. All of it just to briefly get everything out of the way so the arms can move out of the way of the front wheels during transformation, so his entire leg designs is just to help transform the front wheels. The is a certain Irony that the Imperial Slicks has different treaded tires, so he doesnt have the racing slicks he is named for. I watched your Super Gobot video before this. Added info for that Psycho is actually based on the car from the anime Cobra.
I never understood the hostility towards gobot collectors a few years ago. The series ended almost 40 years ago and the little figures look pretty neat
I think part of it is just ignorance and immaturety. Also, times have changed in a lot of ways and there are more people out there who are used to having everything handed to them on a silver platter so, they've come to have an attitude that whatever is the most popular item to have is the only kind WORTH having and that anything else is just trash. Plus, there is a lot of misinformation and disinformation out there too and people who are too lazy to do their research are just believing what is popular to believe. To me it's part of the "In Crowd" mentality. A good example of this kind of attitude is in The Fast and The Furious where Brian and Dom pull up next to the couple in the Ferrari and Brian asks about the retail on it and the guy treats him like dirt because he isn't driving an overpriced, luxurious, ultra fine, elegant super car. Sometimes putting down what someone else likes makes some people feel big and superior.
This took me back to my childhood I had quite a few of these I remember taking them to school and having some major battles at recess with my freinds. Awsome video and love the collection can't wait to see the super gobots & Puzzler I had him as a child he is most definitely one of my favs again great vid
even though i was a transformers fan and wasnt a big gobot fan i liked that they started off the same scale and for the most part they were all vehicles . i also liked leadrer 1 and cykill second colors more and i like the green blaster best
Awesome video on your go bots collection I remember just owning cykill but I had more transformers figures when I was a kid now I have the super go bots and I have screw head I'll be collecting more go bots in the future
This is the most exacting, painstaking , extensive, thorough, indepth, detailed, comprehensive, retrospective, look back in the history of go-bots action figure robot dollies pooptube. I watched it all, felt dizzy ,illin' and felt like seeking immediate psychiatric help . Very fartworthy 😛🍿
Epic collection brother. This is why I love this channel. Besides the weekly news which I love, this channel actually owns the toys. Excellent channel and collection
Thanks I appreciate it! Yes it is fun to review different toy lines. Some I sell off after the review and others like these Gobots a bigger and badder display
Thank you Mike...for showing your collection. Yours beats mines, I have 68 of the 72. My favs are Fitor, Pathfinder, Mr. Mo, and Bent Wing. Long Live Gobots...
Those last 4 are the bug looking ones, I'm still debating all these years to see if I really want them. But I know you are right, I'm going to track them down and finish the count.
Great video. I remember having nearly all of these in the 80s. Though eventually got rid of them and I only kept my Transformers. I also remember hating Scooter in the cartoon and that transitioned to the toy. I never had a Scooter figure...well once, for about a day. Received him as a birthday present and just gave it away to my neighbor.
Rest-Q was actually the first Gobot I ever owned. He was fun to play with on an early Saturday morning. Personally, I wish I could have gotten the Puzzler set. I would have made the Puzzlers Guardian robots.
Great video and information too. I had some of these figures as a kid and some knock-offs too. I still have Crasher, Geeper Creeper, Tank, Treads, Zeemon and Defendor. I may do a video on them some day. You have a new subscriber.
Hopefully you will get to mention the Machine Robo figures that didn't come here as Gobots. The doubledecker bus and the Apollo rocket are my favorites of those toys.
I remember Tank as being called Tankor too. Even as a kid I thought it was unimaginative. But I only knew the Machine Men release in Australia which was different to Machine Robo and GoBots. So maybe that's where it comes from.
LOL this is a great time to buy Gobots. Seems like new stuff shows up every day and if you buy lots they usually come out to only a few bucks each unless one of the expensive ones is in there
To be fair Machine Robo (go-bots) have quite a number of toys that look nice in both modes where Transformers lack of. I recognise a few that were cloned, but with slightly different design and has a little windup motor you can attach. I thing it was mainly the dumpster, fire and crane truck.
I went with Transformers but a few gobots ended up in there, I remember buying the Machine Robo Fightor at a Boston street market, he was my first transforming robot. Some of my gobots were actually knock offs i bought at my local Zayre. Knock off jeepers creepers went to to the Autobots and Tank went to the Decepticons. I wonder how many Turobos are out there hiding in an old box of Hot Wheels...
Zayre was an AWESOME store!! It was my favorite for toys and video games! The toy aisles were always well stocked and they had the coolest of the cool toys and even some weird ones. Electronics was great too as they would demo computer games and video games and let you stand there and play. Back then, if you were a kid and you were bored when your parents were shopping, you could go to the toy department and play with some of the non packaged toys and ones that other kids had opened and left laying around. Great times. Great memories!
What I loved most about GoBots over Transformers (I love both though) is that GoBots are mostly Matchbox/Hot Wheels scale in vehicle form. Transformers should do that. Even their small versions that they release (the Core class figures they do) don't quite hit that mark.
Idk why but Smallfoot, Pathfinder and Spay-C's designs are so appealing to me. Female characters that barely look female is just something i like and idk why
Blockhead and Flytrap are my Two Favorites of all the Gobots this size. You have both of them, and your Black Slicks changed partially incorrect. Flytrap (truck) the feet swing down to make the opening where garbage is dumped into the back. Blockhead's arms extend as the bot. Slicks as the car, his front axels push in to make the wheel base narrow and the hinge lock into place, making it more stable.
Awesome collection you have there Mike. I only had dozer as a kid. I picked up a few gobots really cheap at a small toy fair last year. I'm not actively collecting them but slowly picking up more left and right when I come across them. Luckily it's not an expensive toyline to collect for the most part. I found a really cheap snoop and a green gunnar a few weeks ago and I think I'm up to about 25 to 30 of them now. Not sure if I'll collect all of them. Seeing the prices of some of them, probably not.
The fun part of collecting Gobots is buying lots to finish your collection and they come out to only a few bucks each if you get a bit of luck. That is what I did for the most part
20:35 Blockhead's arms actually extend about a 1/4" or so. The circles on Zero are the Hinomaru (circle of the sun) and are used on Japanese aircraft to this day. It's interesting on the episode "The Third Column" Bad Boy sounds like a kid! It's weird how a few of the Renegades (like Fitor) had soothing, comforting voices.
Zero in the show for some reason had to deploy his wings to fire. Cy-kill was actually a member of the ruling council. I do remember these very well. Here’s a funny fact. During the 1980s and kids shows you couldn’t sell your own products if you had a toy line. So if you watched gobots you got hit with transformer adds and if it was transformers you got gobot adds. True fact
Loved gobots as a kid. Yes, sparky is a girl. She had a big role in the second half of the cartoon. By the way spacy-c, vamp, and snoop are also females!
@@tydiriumhanger1320leader one is 100% an F-15 Eagle...simple way to tell the difference between the F-15 Eagle and F-14 Tomcat is the F-14 has swing wings and the F-15 does not.
I always thought blockhead looked very blocky as well then one day I pulled on his arms at the separation line and learned that they extended out giving them some length and it helps with the proportions so much on him
Cant speak for the Gobots line because here in Ireland we had the "Robo Machine " line and in that version Crasher was originally WHITE and a MALE chracter
The toyline came before the cartoon which is why the animation resembles the toy. Cartoons, in general, were used to sell the toys, genius, but storyline was lacking in most, which makes watch those old cartoons not interesting for an adult (just my opinion). Anyway, thanks for the vid, great collection and i think you are correct by having 2 (one in robot form, one in alt form) is a great way to display.
So cool, always wanted some of these but was never able to get any... I would adore a modern reinterpretation for Turbo and Road Ranger (being late to any party I never even got X-Transbots Hoss)
Yeah... It can be rough missing out on a toy or really any product that you really want knowing that some of your friends have a lot of the cooler ones and you either have trouble finding any or just can't afford it at the time. I've been there. It hurts a lot.
Oh, I'm not a Machine Robo expert but i feel like the robots were friendly human driven machines and the monsters showed up so they had something to fight?
I've got Tux and I love transforming this toy because it was fun then I lost it during a storm along with my other collections. With regards to the recoloured characters, I think it is due to an episode from the cartoons wherein the Guardians are the antagonists while the Renegades are the heroes which is quite similar with TF Shattered Glass
@@tydiriumhanger1320 I will never forget any heroes who turned evil in any '80s cartoon. Unfortunately, I don't know what episode it happened from the CotG.
To summarize… Vac-Metalized GOBOTS are pretty cool. Do the job. Look like the cartoon and with that, are pretty interesting, and all that kind of stuff. Unless they are stubby, dumpy, strange, floppy mess. 😉
@@tydiriumhanger1320 oh im not sure...the original "Thunderbirds' series was puppets and it was from the 1960s...however there was a japanese style anime western cartoon from the 1980s called "Thunderbirds 2086' but it was cancelled after only 1 season due to legal issues.
Can you ask me a question that I have had since I was a child? I know for sure that you are going to tell me, go to Wikipedia, friend, there are the answers, but I want to know it from an expert. I want to know how many total go bots there were, please.
