As someone who worked the customer service desk at K-Mart during high school, and when I'd come home for break my first few years of college, I gotta say this is SOOOO far off base. These customers are way too intelligent, kind, and patient than the real deal. From the guy who modeled the women's underwear sets he was trying on for my coworker, because he wanted a "woman's opinion", to the guy who returned a pair of incredibly used golf shoes, complete with scorecard, mini pencil, dirt, grass, and lady bugs in the box, oh the stories I could tell. But my personal favorite, the one that still keeps me up at night, was the old woman who came in the day after Christmas, the busiest return day of the year, with FOUR HUGE GARBAGE BAGS full of yarn she bought the week prior, because it was now .2¢ cheaper, and she wanted the price adjustment. This was late '90's, so we didn't have the same technology we do today, which meant, according to store policy, I had to manually type in the UPC code of each roll, type in the old price, type in the UPC again, and new price. There were about, no exaggeration here, 50+ people in line behind her by the end of the roughly 45 min. transaction. The grand total for all of it, about $7-8. The kicker is it didn't need to be that day, she still had about a month or two before it was too late. Man I shudder just thinking about it. Thankfully the customers behind her were pretty understanding, and most complimented me for staying so calm, as they were ready to go off on her. Good times!!

I think this sketch is just a nod to all the poor souls who have to work in customer service. They have to deal with this kind of shit everyday, especially during the holidays, and still find a way to keep their cool. I could not do it, I’d be fighting every day.
