That's a really tough question. The lightness and down low punch of the ND's motor, make it tempting. However, the RX-8's top end, comfort and interior room has really grown on me. From a maintenance and fuel economy perspective, the ND wins. At 5' 11" I felt cramped in the ND with the seat positioned as far back as it would go. The RX-8 certainly wins in the cost of entry category by a long shot. There are times that I wish I had a smaller light weight car for a daily again, having daily'ed Miata's / S2000s in the past, but I really do appreciate the comforts of the RX-8. So I guess it really comes down to what you prefer. Since I have the NA/NB and AP1, the RX-8 would make more sense for me, so that is what I would choose. I will leave you with this parting thought however. If the ND was sized the same as the NC (exterior and interior) and had a 200+ HP engine (piston or rotary), I'd probably be running out to buy one in a heartbeat.

Camhin1 I still don't like the rear. I feel the taillights design was a bad choice and just like all cars now a days that bumper is bulky but that's what's it post to be. I think a taillight design similar to the ones on the na would work better than the small lamp with the sharp corners.

I felt the same way, Marc, but I'm coming around. Give it a few years and it might grow on you.

+Camhin1 Damn right, man. The true convertible is the most fun. The worst part of driving a Miata with the top up is the horrible blind spots. This thing has those giant buttresses in the way. I totally don't get the 18 year old Miata community. They all sell off the rag top for a hardtop. The hardtop turns it into more of a real car feel, but the silly almost motorcycle-like fun is gone.

so you'd pay 4-5g for a hardtop on top of the miata price which would make it cost more than the rf while completely changing the shape of the car....

I believe all Miatas do that, the engine mounts are super solid and no wheel hop is felt on this car. The shifters just move a lot because transmission is right under it.

Keep your NA going for as long as you can. I went from NA to NC and miss it to death. I've got more refinement but I'm less engaged with the car mechanically.

They are the same front and and rear. I don't believe he has spacers, just the width and offset of the wheels got them to sit where they did.

I have only driven the regular NC. If it's better than the ND, that is even more impressive.

While the ND is not a direct S2000 replacement, it would make a nice daily if you love the S2000 and want something good on gas and good torque to get up to speed in traffic. Also, a quieter cabin too.

I think anyone who bought a ND would be. I said from the gitgo it was BS that a 2L with 3 more points of compression makes less HP than the model it is replacing. Mazda should have released the ND with the 181 hp engine right out of the box.

That car is really beautiful, so if I bought a ND MX-5, I'm going to buy the wheels, too. Anyway, thank you for the great sample. I love the REV9's MX-5 from Japan.

The S2000 is still a level above. The ND is still undeniably a Miata in terms of it's docileness and ease of use. Compared to older years, it is a big step ahead. The light weight and the chassis rigidity are the big advantages of this over the S2000. If it had an F20C powering it, it would almost be a perfect car.

what if you were to add more hp to the miata so it has 210whp? would that be better than the s2000 then? I daily an na miata but Ive never driven an s2000. I like nimble and very precise handling cars
