It’s just another part of the female anatomy, but it’s not often you hear the word ‘vulva’. It’s even more rare to hear of ‘vulval cancer’.
We talk openly about breast cancer, lung cancer and even prostate cancer, but the rarely vulval cancer, due in part to the stigma, and let’s face it, shame surrounding this part of a woman’s body.
Yet every year, an average of 70 women are diagnosed with vulval cancer in Ireland.
It’s a fact that Conor O’Reilly, a 50-year Church of Ireland minister, from Portarlington, is acutely aware of. He lost his beloved wife of 14 years, Mollie O’Reilly, a 44-year-old chef, to vulval cancer on February 20, 2023.
