REVEALED: Reason for Zac Efron's mysterious hospitalization over swimming pool incident
Zac Efron was hospitalized in Ibiza this past weekend after he dove deep into a pool at a villa in Ibiza early Saturday, with his chest striking the pool's bottom, leading to him ingesting water in his lungs.
Insiders told TMZ on Monday that the 36-year-old actor dove into the pool during an outing with friends on the Spanish island.
The San Luis Obispo, California-born entertainer had taken in 'a large amount of water into his lungs' after he made contact with the bottom of the pool.
The Iron Claw leading man had 'showed signs of distress' in the wake of the incident, sources told the outlet, at which point security officials rushed in to assist him.
The High School Musical alum had been 'momentarily dazed' and subsequently transported to a medical facility 'as a precautionary measure,' sources told the outlet
Medical officials examined Efron with X-rays to his chest in an effort to determine that his lungs were clear of water, insiders told the outlet.
Efron had been medically cleared by doctors, but took his time departing the medical facility after a group of photographers in the area had learned he was there and congregated outside.
Efron on Sunday took to Instagram Stories with an image of himself working out at a resort, as he lifted dumbbells while balancing on an exercise ball. The actor updated fans on his condition after his hospital trip, saying, 'Happy and healthy - thanks for the well wishes.'
Efron was spotted out dining on Sunday evening in Ibiza and was back in the U.S. as of Monday, according to the outlet.
A source previously revealed to TMZ that the actor was 'found inside the swimming pool by two people working at the villa who pulled him out of the water.'
Efron's representative confirmed to the outlet that the actor was hospitalized 'as a precautionary measure' following the 'minor' incident and is 'recovering just fine;' as he was released from the hospital on Saturday morning.

Efron's representative was asked why he needed to be hospitalized if the issue was merely a minor one; in reply, the rep once again stated the hospital visit was just a precaution.
Ahead of the incident, he joined Dutch DJ, Martin Garrix, on stage during one of his shows.
The Disney Channel alum has been spending time in Ibiza and Europe over the past few weeks: Two weeks ago, he spent an afternoon on a yacht with pals in Ibiza after a recent getaway to St. Tropez earlier in the month.
The actor has past shared his experiences participating in extreme sports, including dives, via his social media accounts.
