According to the Bible, Moses received the Ten Commandments from God on a mountain at the time of the exodus. After escaping slavery in Eygpt, thousands camped at the base of this mountain to witness the spectacle. Since then, Mount Sinai has become a sacred location to Judaism, Christianity and Islam. But its location has never been confirmed...until now. Join Simcha on this 2-part journey into the search for this biblical mount.

People have been there for thousands of years. Did they forget which mountain was the "holy" one. I bet every local villager can point it out.
@peterleadley7103
@peterleadley7103 3 года назад
There are several 'Mountains of God', all well known to the people in their locations. One in Morocco, one in Sinai and one in the Hejaz in Saudi Arabia. I believe there are more, but these are the three known to me. There are also several wells named after Moses, so local tradition is obviously not to be relied on.
@jboss119
@jboss119 3 года назад
@@peterleadley7103 i understand... But they arent all said to be the one moses walked up. For instance we know morocco isnt it. Thats the point. If you cant use local traditions how would it even be known at all? Wells are a separate issue and are more numerous than holy mountains so thats silly to bring up.
@peterleadley7103
@peterleadley7103 3 года назад
@@jboss119 the wells illustrate the point that local traditions are largely myth. However there is one that is mentioned in Moses story. The bible account rules out the need to take local tales into consideration. There are still three mountains that Moses walked on, that we know of, without depending on tales intended for tourists. Other evidence is provided by archaeology and self evident facts, e.g. Midianite pottery has been found as far north as Israel and is found all along the Jordan Valley; and shepherds don't graze their flocks in arid desert when river valleys with good grazing are nearer.
@jboss119
@jboss119 3 года назад
@@peterleadley7103 a bit too literal in my opinion. In context its the location of a divine intervention. What specific evidence could be found to separate one mountain they visited to the next anyways? I dont think archaeological examinations is very useful in this case except to provide the minimum of verification. Scholarly examinations and cross references with local knowledge is the way to find the location and even then it wouldnt really be provable.
@peterleadley7103
@peterleadley7103 3 года назад
@@jboss119 How about scrutiny of the biblical texts, cross referencing information from various parts of Moses' story? Surely if the site is being searched for it is thought to have existed, so even though the intervention was divine, the person (Moses) who received it was real. In which case forensic deduction and text analysis would be the way to find the place. Using logic to conclude that sheep/goats would be better off being taken to a river valley rather than a desert would then not be 'too literal'.

Moses..? well if you follow christs teachings.. No one knew god prior to christ being sent. John 17 "oh rightous father the world has not known you" ... John 1:18 no one has ever seen God. .... Matthew 11:27 and no one knows the son, except the father, nor does anyone know the father except the son and those who the son chooses to reveal. .... .... Though I see God..from within and I'm incoruptable in this understanding as.. I follow Jesus teachings.. Which now..reflect god does not come from afar but rather indwells within.. As Jesus is the light of this world who leads us to the the light of life. Which is the truth and spirit of truth within. Thus being one with God. As the true or pure at heart see god Beatitudes. Matthew 5 ... So I don't think you'll find..where Moses was meet by God..upon the mountian. As the truth is god indwells within the body..as the body is the temple of gods spirit. And the kingdom of god within. Though when Jesus was teaching the jewish Pharisees.. He is one with God.. But to them.. He stated "your father is the devil." John 8:44 .... I hope this is clear.. That being your one with god.. The light of life. And god can be seen. Just close your eyes..and look into the clouds of gasses. God comes from within to your view.. Least for me.. As god waves at me..from a siloeht of flowing light.. Waves again if I ask..even just in thought.. He sends me my dog birds the stars from the heavens. And for sure helps me..to share gods love in assisting people. Very cool.. So we really are one with God. Oh and thus.. No name higher of course. Philippians 2:9. ... he who believes in me does not believe in me alone but believes in the one who sent me John 12:44 .... though blessed are those who do not see but believe John 20:29 .... Revelation 12 and..13 kinda explains..the dragon or beast..and the false prophet. As does ezequal 9.6 explains the mark. .. As does.. Seek within....:)

@3:17 ish ... this guy basically says: 'Moses was 80 yrs old so the Mt would have posed quite a feat for the old guy'. Obviously, he's forgetting that back in those days (when Methuselah lived to be almost 1,000 yrs old) 80 would have been more like 18 yrs old. So, this Sinai hunter is WAY off base with his very 1st "hunch". His 2nd "clue": No "plateau for 100's of thousands of Israelites". The land has VERY LIKELY changed quite a bit since then! .. & then there's the idea that it must have a water source. Where did this idea come from exactly? If even relevant...the water source could have EASILY dried up since then. I'm not even CLOSE to any kind of "professional" in this area ...(not even an *amateur!!) & these 3 things IMMED came to mind.

For all those critical of the music: it's supposed to be a modern, quirky take on a biblical journey, as much for entertainment as for elucidation. Clues: read the lyrics to this song: He's a tall, tall man... From a tall, tall land... He makes no apologies... For his archaeologies... From the mountain tops... To the ancient rocks... He digs for clues... In his dusty blues... He's a tall, tall man.... From a tall, tall land... He makes no apologies.... For his archaeologies... For his archaeologies. It's supposed to be a serious search cloaked in an overlay of humour. And I think this series was filmed not later than 2010.

One very overlooked aspect of this is volcanology. It must be kept in mind that it was the explosion of Santorini that brought about the collapse of the bronze age, including Egypt. So, look at how major volcanic eruptions affected local climates and keep in mind that Egypt is due south of Santorini. The bible says the journey took 40 years and this is probably an exaggeration as the effects of the volcano were exaggerated in the book of exodus. So, would a volcano cause enough rains to sustain 100k people making a journey across a desert?

This was and argument that grew in popularity during the early part of the twentieth century. But then was laid to rest after the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls in 1947. Before that date the oldest known manuscript from the OT was dated to 1000AD. With the discovery of the DSS the oldest is now dated to around 4BC. And wouldn’t you know when they compared the text in was almost 100% the same after 1000 years. The only difference was some small textual variants in spelling. So although you think this is a good argument, its a lazy one and it’s a dead one that was tried and buried almost a hundred years ago.

You can chose to ignore all that evidence but that’s on you and your apparent laziness to even bother to research it. Your type of arguments have been defeated over and over again.

I always thought they should consider to look for the geographical/geological anomaly, it would have been left behind, when God swallowed up an entire tribe of hebrews. 23,000 went into the Earth at once at the base of Mount Sinai. I would think that would have left behind some kind of geological record.

This episode was made in 2006. More information has come to light since then, some in support of Simcha's theories, other disputing them. For a full account of his theories, as well as the conclusion of this adventure, why not watch "The Exodus Decoded," a feature-length documentary which features footage from both parts and reaches some rather controversial conclusions. @@willmfrank Thank you. I will watch it and see how it measures up! Just checked it out. I have seen it before. Whilst I agree with much of the statements made in it, and much of the evidence offered, there is, as in all theories as to the whereabouts of the Mountain of God, crucial evidence that has either been ignored or missed. This leads to an erroneous data set which gives a false result. I have researched all the factors offered in this video, but included others which are not referred to here. This is dope. But think again my friends. The real Mount Sinai where Moses climbed up to and where he was able to talk FACE-TO-FACE to god to receive the 10 commandments is his CROWN CHAKRA. Similar to Mount Olympus as for the Greeks. Here we are having Moses probably telling his disciples he was going for a hike to seclude himself and enter a deep meditative state. He was able to do that as he was an initiate, taught and initiated by the high priests in Egypt. Meditation is key to hear the voice of god within. God bless

There is a good reason why the location of Mt Sinai is unknown. That is because it is as mythical as Moses. In all likelihood neither existed. Additionally there is no evidence of large numbers of Israelites held as slaves in Eygpt. It takes nine days to walk from Egypt to Israel. It doesn't take forty days, much less forty years. All you have to do is walk along the coast.

Jabal el Lawz, Saudi Arabia. Known to locals as Jabal el Musa (mountain of Moses.) The altar of Moses is there made out of uncut stones with the 12 white round stones. The altar of the golden kalf is there. The split rock of horeb with water erosion from botom to the top of the stone is there. The dried up river bed streaming from the rock into the valley is there. The burned mountain top (from wich they took stones whereof only the outside of the stones are burned is there.) Mass graves are there. Hebrew style drawing, like a menorah, dating back thousands of years are there. The 12 springs and 70 palms (they called Elim) are relatively close by. And further down that path towards the beach still stands the pillar of Salomo, commemorating the crossing.
@slickmcCool
@slickmcCool 3 года назад
@@sjeune none of that is true. Why do people just stop listening to archeologists and historians at the point where they agree with you? There is a broken rock. In a land littered with broken rocks. Convincing. Found a dried streambed in a land littered with dry streambeds, convincing. Is the alter also the alter of goats, sheep and camels? Because there are a lot of those on the alter, but both Wyatt and this show zoomed in on the cow to cut the other carvings out of frame. This is a land that has changed hands many times, there are carvings from several different cultures there. From protocanannites to romans.

@@slickmcCool If it's not true then why is it all there? Clearly you either haven't looked in to it or you don't like the truth. If someone says to you the eiffel tower isn't in Paris but has been a fiction of your imagination all your life you'd probably think they're batshit crazy. Yet here you're happy to toss aside overwhelming documented evidence because you "are told" it's not true so don't look into it. It's mental mate.

@@sjeune I'm saying that a random dude made a claim that all that exists, but when you look at the sight you can clearly see how imagination was the driving factor in connecting those dots. There is some prehistoric archaeology there, yes. Claiming that this is where the moses character split the rock- not supported at all. Saying this is where the supposed "golden calf" was is not supported. What people did is what religious people always do. They find something that vaguely fits what they believe and they claim it. There is prehistoric archaeology there, yes. That's it. All the little details have been exaggerated or completely made up. There is no 'overwhelming evidence' of anything there.

@@slickmcCool It's a pretty detailed bible story with a lot of matching components. It's like having a perfect 12-point puzzle piece with the exact markings needed. I don't call that "vaguely fitting." I would invite you to read the story and look at as many material brought forward from there. Just because it isn't put forward by profesionals doesn't mean it's false. I do call it overwhelmingly evidence because it simply is and has even changed a lot of people's lives familiar with it. But either way, we're all entitled to our own opinion ofcourse.

Saudi Arabians have known this forever; and they would prefer that no one other than Saudis know. Why do you think they revere Moses so highly? Do you think it was by accident? Do you think they read the books of Moses just for giggles? This is Moses. Not Noah. You’re thinking of the Mesopotamian story of Gilgamesh, composed around 1800 BCE. That’s actually later than Noah, and is likely the account of Noah’s son Ham who was banished to Canaan. Noah’s flood was likely around 2500 BCE or earlier

Mt. Sinai...has to be in Midian, and in Arabia. Just as the bible says it is. It is not that difficult. We know it is not St. Catherine's in the Sinai Peninsula, becuase Helena is the one who proclaimed that site. She was no archeologist. But back to Sinai being in Midian. The bible clearly states...Moses saw the burning bush while in Midian, and that God told him to bring the Israelites, to this mountain to worship Him. We know Moses was in Midian tending his flocks. Another passage in the New Testament, clearly states...Mr. Sinai...is in 'Arabia'. Problem solved. Likely...the mountain is Jebel Al Lawz...near Al Bad, or ancient Madyan, which is of course...is ancient Midian. Never could understand how people try and twist the scriptures to fit their own bias as to where the mountain is. Bible says it is in Midian, and Arabia. With that information...what we know for sure is...it is NOT in the Sinai Peninsula, which is, and always has been...part of Egypt. It is in Midian and Arabia...just like bible clearly says it is. Period.
