Thanks for sharing and congrats to you and your brother! Lovely car. Watched your previous video on the Manual vs PDK comparison and it’s also helped me decide on my GT4 config. As it’s a ‘daily’, PDK sounds sensible - but for a weekend toy I can’t see anything better than the Manual (especially with the roof down!). Regarding PCCBs, I think it’s a common misconception that track enthusiasts will automatically opt for this. If anything, it’s the opposite. You wouldn’t want to be stressing such an expensive and replaceable part on track regularly. Most will opt for steels or a cheaper aftermarket that won’t cost 10% of the cars value to replace.
I concur. I have spoken with pro drivers and racing coaches who advocate steel brakes for the track and ceramics for cosmetics/avoiding brake dust. I also find it interesting that the GT3 Cup Car does not have PCCB’s but rather the steel/aluminum variety. “The Cup car rotors are also manufactured by PFC, they are two-piece steel/aluminum design for rotational mass savings and 380mm in diameter. These rotors are slotted and center vented.”
You are actually the only RU-vidr that actively adverts in his videos who I won’t unsubscribe because of that. Your reviews are always honest and you‘re never shy to say what you don’t like about a car, I really appreciate that! Keep up the good work!
I think it’s absolutely spot on , there’s just something so right about it , perfect summer fun road trip car , you need your roof down on a road trip , 414bhp you can almost ring it out ample power without having to constantly back off , and GT4 running gear and suspension … cruise around London traffic and head to south of France … you must of missed the 981 , I can only imagine it to be epic … any chance of a burn up ?
Congratulations, that is a superb choice. I have an almost identical spec Spyder being built in April. I’ve plumped for the 18 way electric sport seats as I find the 918 buckets too upright and the lack of seat heating is an issue in a Scottish summer, never mind the other seasons.. I’ll be watching your updates with interest.
Wow 🤩 . I’m picking up a very similar spec’d Spyder today but in manual for a Sunday toy. I do daily a Porsche with PDK so I’m also with you there. However, for an 2 pedal drop top as a daily, imo the LC 500 is far and away the superior choice, and certainly the better buy at the moment.
Glad you're back to producing more regular RU-vid content! Hopefully s couple of races between the 4C and Spyder are on the cards once the porsche is broken in?
Hi Mark. Congrats on your purchase. A beautiful car. I am really intrigued to know how you managed to get allocated the cancelled Spyder order? I have made many enquires over the past 12 months to get on the Spyder waiting list, only to be told by every dealership that they pretty much are only getting one Spyder allocated per annum, and that the waiting list is soo long that the chance of securing one is next to nothing. One dealership also said that the customer who ultimately gets allocated a car would be down to the decision of the dealership manager!
Congratulations! Gorgeous car. I wouldn’t have thought of using silver for the stitching and seat belt, but it looks good from what I can tell on video. I’ll be interested in hearing your review vs the 981 given that you seemed to prefer the 981 In your review a few years back. Maybe the reportedly better sound of the 2022 version will make a difference, because it is a weak point on the 2021 Spyder, which I have.
This video is so ironic in its timing, I just picked up a 2022 PDK Spyder yesterday and it actually replaced a 2020 6-Speed Spyder which I regretfully sold because my wife wanted to be able to also drive it. I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as the 6-Speed and have only it about a hundred miles so I may change my mind but I’m actually really liking it. I remember my 2020 sounding pretty awful below 5-6k (before I upgraded the exhaust with Akropovic over axle pipes) but this one sounds better stock and feels noticeably quicker off the line. I also got the 18-way seats this time and while it’s nice to be able to get in and out of them so easily, and they are very comfortable, I do miss the look and feel of the buckets a bit. So while I wasn’t overly excited about this one being PDK I’m so far impressed by how it hasn’t changed the cars fun quotient much from what I can tell 👍🏻
epic car epic color!! interesting your comment re rumor of louder 22' is that on the boxster gts 4.0 also? mine is due to arrive this april its currently in production akso shark blue black wheels
Hi Mark, great choice! What's your feeling about the plastic rear window? Looks cheap to me... thin glass would not have been that much heavier, would it?
A very beautiful everyday car that’s not practical for everyday use but will be reviewed for RU-vid viewers. Guess it’s a YT car. Interesting, hope not gone in a year max. Congratulations on the purchase and hope you have fun driving it hard everyday 😊
1:47 Full Becket Seats: Typo? Otherwise nice video. Why did you pay the extra money for the Shark Blue (I admit that is a beautiful color) However the Red is a cool sports car color and this year's red is spot on and FREE. I would avoid all options and buy the car with minimal options like aluminum foot pedals, heated steering wheel. I guess a two tone/color seat wouldn't add to much to the overall price of the car. Your seats don't include heating and the UK is not exactly a warm country. I also noticed that you did the model designation "718" delete which is free and I would do that too. How much fake plastic is on the car like on the front and sides.
Dude, a PDK, while an amazing transmission, no thank you. Especially in a daily where you get to enjoy rowing your own gears. Oh well, enjoy in good health.
I am willing to bet that you haven't driven both back to back. I did a review of the 718 GT4 some months back and tested the manual and PDK back to back and the PDK really suits the engine. PDK Sport changes the whole character of the car.
Absolutely perfect 👌🏻. Shark blue is a winner . Totally agree with your rationale for PDK and Steel brakes as a daily. I see SO many 718 spyders at Porsche meets, they’ve really nailed the design. You’ll have to look up Craigs Spyder Club on Instagram, huge following.
+1 for Ceramics on a daily. No brake dust is a joy and way longer life. I'd argue steels for the track, ceramics for daily. In a prior Spyder compare, I recall you saying how much you "loved" ceramics 🤔
