Cant imagine how this place would have turned up if you guys did not find this amazing team. Hope many people see their work and hire them for future projects.
One ongoing aspect of your adventure that isn’t ever recognized is how Drew bravely puts himself out there with his beginning Portuguese. Anyone who has visited a country where a different language is dominant knows how huge the effort is to try to communicate complicated needs and thoughts in a language that is not one’s own. Drew is carefully building his new language and has pushed past the natural reluctance of risk that is pretty overwhelming when moving from understanding what others are saying to actually communicating with native speakers. I’m sure Brittany is going through similar stages but in a more guarded way. Anyway, good on you, Drew. It takes as much macho to learn a foreign language as it does to learn all those building and construction skills.
We appreciate how Drew is learning Portuguese the hard but effective way. After spending many wonderful holidays near Sao Bras we only learned to say Obrigada, but of course most of the locals could speak a little English putting us to shame. Ultimately we lived in France from 18 years and had to go through the same process that Drew is using. It’s important that the native speakers correct your mistakes though.
I am glad the tradesmen there allow you to follow their work so closely. It is very interesting to see how they do their jobs and utilize skills we don't otherwise get to see, including humor. I hope you tell them how much they are admired by your followers. That turret is a work of art!
WOW that roof-the workmanship, unbelievable the quality and talent of the crew you found. Everyday I am amazed at their work effort and progress!!! I have enjoyed watching the progress of all the work you have done. Getting closer To move in date!!!
What a lovely team of artisans you have. And how nice it must be for them to have you recording not only the product of their work but how they work as well. I hope this helps them get many future lucrative contracts. I just love your vision for raising the turret roof. It really has become the feature of your new home. ❤
That roof is gorgeous. These men you have working for y’all are awesome. You ask for something and they do it. They will be famous for sure. But it takes good people to have good people work for you. You treat them very good with snacks kindness and appreciation of what they do. Thanks for showing all of this. It’s awesome. I can’t wait to see the mermaid on top. ❤️🙏🏻❤️
Yay! Sunday Funday with Brittany, Drew and the kitties. It makes my heart happy to see you making such huge advances every episode. Sending lots of love from me and my kitty, in Vermont. And oh my GOODNESS the turret roof tile pattern is GORGEOUS!
AND NO STRAP TO HOLD THEM FROM FALLING !!!! THOSE WINDS, they must have great balance. I don't think they will attempt another very soon, but the experience had to be amazing for them.
That turret team is making such magic happen! How do that know how to do this?! It’s just awesome! The symmetry and repetition of form and function are just spectacular! The lineage of the tiles, the lines of the glass in its formation and angle of lift for the turret and all wrapped together produces such a pleasing piece of true art. A book needs to be written for your magical home……and a line of build artsy pictures to focus On your progression. Spectacular!
I've always loved glass block since I was a kid. My Dad worked at Coca Cola and the 50's building (in VA) had it in front at the entrance of the building. Lights were behind it for night time enjoyment when you passed by. And living in CA I always enjoyed seeing it in bath areas in new or remodeled builds. It looks so good you guys. Such a smart decision to use it on the turret. It really transforms it to a new level!
Love love love the roof, absolutely beautiful. It's so cool to see how meticulous they are with their work. They truly consider it a craft and take so much pride in it. Wish we had more of that in the US. Morning glory's are such a happy reminder of God's creation. Love you guys so much...always excited for each episode ❤️
Quite literally the icing on the cake, not only stunning to look at but so practical with the light you will now have. Once again what a group of builders you have, they are fabulous.
Actually, Cristopher, glass blocks are making a comeback after being considered "old fashioned"! Archiectual Digest starts out their article on glass blocks making a comeback as "When you hear the phrase “glass block,” the mind immediately wanders to neon-accented icy interiors of the ‘80s. And don’t worry, those decor trends have been left in their decade, hopefully never to be seen again." In the 1950's, my father designed and built our house in Hawaii with a wall of glass blocks in the hallway that was exposed to the outside. It provided light to the house that was set on land that was below the street level. I have always loved the look of them, used inside or out, not just for its ability to let light into a otherwise dark area, but to give an illusion of space and light. ive always thought that they provided a rich sparkle too, like diamonds! It made me so sad everytime I would see or hear someone say that they were going to get rid of the glass blocks in their homes because they were out of style or old fashioned. But hopefully people are recognizing the potential beauty of glass blocks! I'm extatic that they are making a comback in home decor!
I've always loved glass block. There are definitely some poor design choices with glass block... but it can make places so special. My dream is a tiled walk-in shower with glass block!
Lifting the roof and adding glass tiles for light was the right call. I love how beautiful it came out and how skilled this team is. Very rare to find teams like them. Besides that, the positive and joyful energy. Very blessed, i would say. ❤❤
Gee, i cant believe how labor intensive this whole project has been! As Drew pointed out, in the US, buildings are constructed with wood, but it seems that here, in Portugal atleast, buildings are constructed with stone and concrete. It is looking beautiful however. You have a hand-crafted roof! It was intersting how they used a blowtorch to soften the asphalt material and how the tiles were laid. Glass blocks are out of fashion these days, but I have always loved them. They are beautiful!I like the wider grouted spaces between the glass blocks. They mimic the grounting in the brick! Your turret would feel like a dungeon like silo without the glass! Brilliant! Your kitties have become so adopted to you, they choose to stay and clearly love you! Brittany, i have used that Lash mascara as a primer and really loved it, so thank you for the discount code!
There is no such thing as being out of fashion. That's just some social construct for people to judge others. The Glass blocks are beautiful and exactly what this project needed. And duh, they serve the practical purpose of lighting up the top of the tower.
You are so fortunate and blessed to have the world's best craftsmen. Absolutely outstanding and the most beautiful castle roof. The craftsmen deserve a huge hug and great hand shake. A photo with all your workmen deserve a place in your home
Absolute masterpiece! WOW! They did an incredible job on their first round roof! I am always so happy to see your video pop up with my Sunday coffee. I remember the first days with your kitties and how wild and feral they were and now they are just living their best lives! They are so lucky to have you!
Watching young men, who are such incredible craftsmen, is incredibly delightful. It seems like a lot of specialists are growing too old and there are not enough young craftsmen/women to replace them and their unique skills. You do manage to find the most incredible help!
My heart is weeping, I have wanted glass bricks in a home forever. My grandmother had them in her entryway in San Francisco. I always loved them and I guess they are also a very dear memory for me. I live in a redwood cabin my dad built in 1953. I also live in a redwood forest, back in the 50's redwood was the cheapest wood for building in Santa Cruz, CA. So most of the inside of my cabin (outside too) is all beautiful redwood. Beautiful , but very dark inside from all the wood and the tree canopy. We've two islands, one between the kitchen and dining room and one between the kitchen and living room. It's a very open floor plan. Guess my dad was ahead of his time when he built it. Lol. Anyway, I so want to remake the islands using glass bricks, solid countertop and some sort of rope or newer version of colored lights to light up the block. It's a dream, and your project is reminding me of it once again. Your master bath is going to be stunning. ❤❤❤ Brittany, love the black lace top and grey leggings. Very cute. Drew very sharp hair cut.
It's plain to see how the amazing craftmanship of European construction lasts for centuries. Portugal can be very proud to have you become a welcome addition to their country. I keep posting how the proverbial elephant can only be eaten one bite at a time and, he is getting smaller by the day. So proud of you guys. I would love it if I could be reborn as one of your kitties and live my life at the castle.
Outstanding, precise, clean, correct - that is the work these men deliver. Hats off to these men who have created such a work of art on your house. Dear ones, this will look so good and you can be proud of yourselves. Don't lose your cool and go your way here in Europe. It's great that you are here.
The turret lift and glass block is amazing if beautiful!! Great artistic flare there, so nice natural light. Many blessings to you fabulous duo! (Coyotes Natural Medicine people here) hugs
The turret became an extensive and expensive project but adds a fantastic dimension to the house. Raising the turret to add the glass blocks was a great idea and the tile work was masterfully done. Beautiful.
Saludos desde Chiapas, México. Wow! The turret roof is not only well done, it's stunning! And the workers aren't just great workers, they have a great sense of aesthetics. It's truly artisanal the care that they employ. You're so lucky to have them. Bendiciones desde Chiapas. ❤❤❤
We always look forward to Sunday’s to sit down eat breakfast and watch y’all. Are y’all going to put the Mermaid that Brittany got on top of the turret?? That would look so cool! We can’t wait to see the finished product! Hello from TEXAS from Eric & Marcy ❤️😊
I am loving the well thought out details you are putting into the mill! I wasn’t sure about raising the turret, but it looks awesome! How much fun is it going to be to visit your beautiful bathroom everyday?
Most of my live a have lived in brick houses. For 19 years I lived in a house made of wood with a brick outer wall. I prefer the stone houses. They are cooler in summer.
To fill those gaps between the glass blocks, a bag to fill with that filling material is very effective, then it is cut at a corner and by pressing, the respective gaps can be filled very easily, a kind of adapted pump. I have nothing but praise for this wonderful house. Well done, it's a lot of work but you did it!
How is it possible that i am in love with everyone that comes to help you create your paradise?! Started with Andy, now Jhonny and everyone. They are so beautiful and im sure more beautiful inside. 🫶
Can I just say a big Wow to the guys you have there. They all work their asses off… such hard work, but with such a fine touch! Amazing work and like the happiest fun people WHILE they’re working!❤ Legends! ❤
For those working on your turret and never done this style of roof before is amazing 🤩 (5stars). Something you can’t rush and the detail is on point 👌. Great 👍🏻 work guys. Be proud and now you can put in your portfolio 💼 plus show your family and friends your work. Love it from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦. ❤
Your home continues to grow in strength, and beauty. The kitties are so relaxed. They really love you both. The Tower ceiling and roof area works of art. Sending love from Abruzzo.
Wow!❤wow! ❤beautiful work on the roof!!! They are masterful in their craft!! Please share with them how much I love what they are doing! They are fantastic at what they do!!! I couldn’t see it in the beginning and then once it was finished, and you looked down upon it it was just beautiful❤Congrats on a beautiful roof and home to be!!!
What an amazing job the men did on the turret! It lets in beautiful light & the way they did the tiles looks fantastic! I hope you resolve the water leaks quickly. Ironically I had no idea there were scorpions 🦂 in Portugal! 🇵🇹 I was just in Arizona a little over a week ago & encountered one staying at a friend’s home. I was walking barefoot in the bathroom when I felt something moving under my feet along the side of the sheepskin rug. I believe the only reason I didn’t get stung was because its stinger had to have been under the sheepskin. We were both startled. It was transparent & at least 4.5” Long. It was huge! I’ve never encountered them in person before. Turns out the cleaners must have brought it with them that day! 😬 So happy to see all the beautiful progress you’re making! 🎉
I love glass blocks. Grew up in Hawaii and they were prevalent in the 70’s on the more upscale homes. Are you going to put a cap stone of sorts on the very top to finish it off?
Wow! Your team is so AMAZING!!! Watching them do their thing is incredible. Real pros. That turret is a work of art! 🎉 The cherry on top of the house. ❤
You guy’s give me huge amounts of inspiration, I adore the way you manifest your dreams into reality. Just keep on giving because I look forward to the next instalment

The turret is spectacular and perfect. I'm in Awe. Great renovation that will last for 100s of years. I like the vegan mascara too. Thank you for being such wonderful kind stewards of the property. 💖💕💖🦋🐝🐞🌠💖
Many times I wished I could have enjoyed math and geometry like my school mates. The men who did your cone did it to perfection! Don't forget to put the weather vane up there.
