I really hate how every human/animal buddy movie has to end with the human and the animal splitting ways “for the animal’s good!” This ending completely overrides the entire point of the series. Hiccup spent his entire life trying to teach people to accept dragons, but then suddenly gives up and decides that dragons should spend the rest of their existence out of sight and out of mind? What if the dragons decide to leave the hidden world after Hiccup is dead and humans regained their fear and hatred of them? This ending was just a tearjerker for the sake of being a tearjerker. Also an obligatory statement that the Light Fury has the most awful design in the series by far. It seems like the only thing they were thinking about while designing her is to make her look as “female” as possible.
It seems like the only thought for the LF design was 'be female', because it _was_ the only thing that mattered. There are like four pages of the art book full to bursting of misogynistic nonsense about how _hawd_ it is to design A Female(tm), to the point that they were scared away from giving her stripes because they 'looked too much like scars'. Scars. On a WILD DRAGON. It doesn't help that other LFs we see are irrelevant copy/pastes of 'the' LFs design, the whole species _does not matter._ There's only 'the' LF, and her sole reason for existing: being a passive, soulless broodmare for Toothless.
@Kayla_Henderson Lol take things personal much? I was talking about the actual movie, not an OC I've never heard of. And yes, the slightest variations in dragons have always been in the series, except the other Light Furies are _still irrelevant._ They get single-digit seconds of screen time, they _do not matter_ to the story. Nothing would change if they were erased. For all it was supposed to be sooooooo important that Toothless found another Fury, _don't you think_ that the WHOLE species should've been more important, and not set dressing? Hell, even a learn-to-read book for first graders understood this. And yes, 'the' Light Fury is soulless because she is a passive object to be desired for 95% of the movie. Any glimmer of what _should_ be a personality is a reaction to something happening to her, not a result of _active_ choices.
@Kayla_Henderson Lol aren't you cute. Toothless being the 'waaaaaaaaast uv his kind!!!!!' is a cheap trick to make him even more of a special snowflake, it doesn't _actually_ matter. He doesn't care. This isn't treated with any of the weight or impact it _should_ have, and they can't even be arsed to prove it! The only way we 'know' that Toothless is the last... is because a hunter that is objectively bad at his job _claims_ he killed them all, but doesn't have so much as a scale to prove it. And I _did_ see the movie, multiple times in fact. But because I am not a toddler, I wasn't mollified by the sparkles and pretty colors and jokes about Hiccup's disability. And in the movie _I_ saw, the Light Fury was a vapid beast too stupid to keep itself alive, that the story would be objectively better off without. She abandons Toothless in 'dangerous' situations multiple times, and forces him to bend over backwards until he's 'good enough' for her, all while putting all of dragonkind at risk because she's too stupid to avoid danger and Toothless proves he'll sell his entire flock into slavery to save her sorry hide. _That's_ the character you're simping for???
@Kayla_Henderson There is nothing wrong with liking a particular character. If you like the Light Fury - power to you. However you cannot deny the fact that the only purpose behind her design and behavior was to act as stereotypically feminine as possible. If you don’t trust my words, trust the words of the directors and the character designers. Their only requirements for her design was to convey she is female. That’s it. As the other person pointed out, they wanted the Light Fury to be femininely attractive to the point that they refused to give her scars because that would make her less “sexy”. This is a direct contradiction to the way female dragons and people were portrayed in the series. Valka and Astrid both have amazing designs, Stormfly and Meatlug still look like dragons without being oversexualised. Also there is a difference between an OC and a character made for a movie, to convey a specific purpose. Your OC can be anything you want it to be - it’s yours. We are talking about a giant movie franchise here and our wants for it to do better are warranted.
@Kayla_Henderson With how you described Toothless. That perfectly describes what they turned him into in the third movie. He went from a majestic, fierce, graceful, calculated and intelligent dragon (in httyd 1) to a bumbling clown idiot for comic relief in 3. It's like you hit a point of why THW sucks and yet still somehow miss the point. As for the light fury, she's selfish and ditches Toothless at the first sign of danger KNOWING FULL WELL THAT HE CAN'T FLY. Toothless being the idiot clown that he is in 3 bends over backwards and becomes spineless over her even if she tries to hurt Hiccup or worse KILL him he barely batts an eye. Contrast that with the protective and graceful dragon from the previous movies who would DEFEND HICCUP AGAINST DANGER. Lf does nothing to earn his love or attention other than being "The pretty female" and because he's reduced to a moron, he just simps for her brainlessly despite the fact she barely even cares for him.
I think that came from because Dean himself said it wasn't canon, but half of the other writers said it was. (same situation happened with the boneknapper's continuity) So it's really just how people feel about it. I consider it canon.
I’ve been waiting for someone to talk about the speedstingers, defenders of the wing, wingmaidens and buffalords for ages! Thank you so much, I can already tell that I will love this video
Maybe the island sunk under the water, but that is a big stretch. I mean, there is a dragon skeleton the size of Godzilla, making up at least 75% of that island. Even if it sank to the bottom of the ocean, I bet my lucky nickel you can see it from a satellite!
The thing is... even if the movies ignore the shows (which they do, Easter Eggs aren't enough when they pretend entire civilizations don't exist), The Hidden World still ignores any/everyone that could possibly have different wants, needs, or ambitions than Hiccup (The Center Of The Universe). He can freely decide, for the _Entire_ planet, that no one deserves dragons with zero repercussions. Because consequences would mean Hiccup (The Center Of The Universe) was _wrong_ about something, and that's not allowed. THW straight-up forgets it SHOWED us there are still dragons in the hands of trappers, and that Hiccup and Company wrecked like... three armada ships tops before it was completely forgotten too. There are, so far as we know, still some dragons in the wild and plenty more captured. Dragon hunting as a profession isn't over, and now there isn't a single person around to stop them. Hiccup _gave up_ because the Plot Said So, any other reason we tease out for that plan not working is moot. Because not one other character in this entire franchise matters, so anyone that would/could protest is silenced and reduced to a cardboard cutout. And that's just... sad.
@@primevalyautja1305 It’s fine if they defending HTTYD 3 if they understand that it’s not perfect, everybody can love what they want but they need to understand the flaws. Most of the people who defend HTTYD 3 just don’t see the flaws or not wanting to admit them, that’s bad.
it's also just silly to think all dragons would get along lion king style in such a confined space. there's dragons who prey exclusively on other dragon species, what are they going to do? and there's no way the hidden world is a perfectly suited environment for every dragon. dragons who live in either extremely cold or extremely hot places can both survive in the hidden world? how???
@@stormdragon356 it answers this one question but it brings up many others such as: how the hell is there a sky and weather underground? it's something tho i guess lol
@@umbsol5053 if a Cavern was big enough I guess it has it's on Sky and for the weather the only reason I could think about is literary are going through a tunnel but even then that's questionable including the fact there are plants in the hidden world far below for any natural sunlight
I come to believe because of this movie’s ending it led to that god awful series “nine realms” which is no where near as good as “Riders/Defenders of Berk” or “Race to the Edge”
Oh! I like the hollow earth theory for the hidden world, considering the movie barely showed anything of it,, and then immediately had Hiccup decide to send ALL dragons into it for who knows how long felt impulsive😅 Ah well, I loved this video! I totally forgot about just how revolved dragons are in the world, and you did an amazing job of exploring it!
A better way the could have ended httyd3 would have been the light fury staying with hiccup and the bewilder beast becoming the king of the hidden world so no dragons have to go unless they really wanted to at least then a 4th film would be possible and not a bad spin off in modern times
Recently, my husband and I organized a marathon to review httd. And he said at the end of the viewing "This ending doesn't make sense!". He had never looked at how to train a dragon. I watched the httd back in the movies, and cried at the end. But after reviewing it with my husband, I thought that it was really stupid. Hicupp said that dragons should be hidden in a hidden world so that no one could take over the dragons. But after all, on the rest of the planet, people quietly used dragons until the httd 2! This means that after the httd 3 they are also quietly used. Our heroes just lost their protection and friends for the drama! And then there was a film that rewrote the canon! This is absolutely absurd. I am glad that this topic is being discussed
Dude, i don't know if you will see it but anyway. Its simple, the people of hiccup could just migrate to other islands and create new villages, spread themselves. Bam, problem of space and food solved.

Almost 4 years later and I'm still upset about this ending. I LOVE how you edited, fluently explained in such a quick and efficient manner the impact of the movie and the shows having on this world. It shows the consequences the third movie never considered just for cheap nostalgic tears when Hiccup and Toothless say goodbye. You earned a new subscriber ❤
The movie was nice but it has its flaws. For start, the Hidden World is NOT for all dragons. I made my own visions and some dragons can't live down there. The majority, like carnivores or dragons with certain needs, would have a very difficult time living down there. However, I think there are some solutions. Even so, I emphasize that SOME dragons would not adapt down there. One of the things that occurs to me is that the Whispering Deaths could have created thousands of tunnels so that many dragons could have access to the Hidden World. That goes for the Speed Stingers, but Toothless will have to find a way to control them so they don't hurt other dragons. Unfortunately the Skrill CANNOT live down there due to the need for thunders. For ice dragons, we can give them a high cave in the Hidden World so that they are not close to the hot center of the Hidden World, supported by the Bewilderbeast shot. That and more. I think I can find a way for at least 98% of the dragons to adapt down there, although there may still be a problem controlling the territorial and carnivorous ones. Anyway... that's the basics. Extra note: Another thing I didn't like about the movie is the villain. I don't see much work in his story and quite a few things done poorly. But that's not the topic here XD
i don't think thats how it works, and "abandon" i a strong name and i don't know why people interprets the end of this poem, but I believe that in the same way that Hiccup discovered ways to solve such problems, I don't think it is difficult for other civilizations to have found other territories to live together, after all this world is not so small, and the rest, or is it just change, or is it just the law of nature
what about food dragon breed like rabbits aka its never one kid so where is all the food coming from .........only the nearby fish they all would have to come out for fish like in httyd 2

It think these can pretty much all be explained, defenders of the wing would have to move islands which would be sad for them however they get the knowledge that the creature they spend their lives protecting will be safe so i dought they would care. The wingmaidens certainly wouldn't care because their only goal is to protect baby razorwhips and this is evidently the best way to do it. The dragon hunting is evidently a black market so it would only affect people in the black market and not nations or governments. Vanaheim would presumably just be abandoned with the same happening to rookery island. The Berserker bewilderbeast would obviously just leave to the hidden world. The only one I can't figure out is the speed stingers, the cavern crasher could definitely just tunnel there but im not sure about speed stingers, maybe they became chickens?
Still impactful tho, but speed stingers i assume only the evolved ones with webbed feet make it to the hidden world or the others wait until the oceans freeze over
But what about the buffalord that only eats its special grass. Or the dragon hunters still having alot of captured dragons that couldnt just freely leave to some hidden place
Do you even understand that no person on Earth had RIGHT to decide something for WHOLE WORLD and force other people and dragons to change their way of life, abandon their friends and leave their homeland? And yeah, speed stingers turning into chikens-biology drowned in a swamp.
@@trier_Ra609 ok firstly, do you understand the concept of a joke? secondly, he kinda does have that right. He is the person who connected vikings and dragons and it is for the greater good that they part ways.
@@trier_Ra609 the dragons only live in the barbaric archipelago his decision will only impact no more than 100,000 people. Also you are selling short his achievements, he hasn't just been befriending dragons for six years he changed the way the entire archipelago treats them and the relationship they have with humans. Also yes people have different ambitions than hiccup, generally these ambitions involve the mass slaughter of dragons which is exactly why they must leave for the hidden world.
I believe that how evrey dragon got to the hidden world is this Most simply flied For those who couldn't where help by other dragons Defenders of the Wing the wingmadons where and the berserker where most likely visited by toothless to tell the dragons to leave and go to the hidden world The vanihime bone where most likely moved to a new resting place in the hidden world to let the dragons know that that's where they go to die now So yah The explanation for how did evrey dragon on earth managed to make it to the hidden world is that toothless set out to leave no dragon behind alive or dead I'm pretty sure that all the tribes adapted to this new way of life
