The A's ballpark should be paid for in the same way that Allegiant Stadium and the West Hall of the Convention Center were, with a small increase in the tax on hotel rooms. This way tourists will be paying for the stadium, not the average resident of Southern Nevada. Also, tax dollars created by the stadium and the A's will go to Clark County rather than going to the debt payments on the stadium bonds.

Nevada legislature is very different than California. I commend the legislators in NV for their dedication to what they do regardless of what political affiliation they have. The special session had a lot of special interest, unions pushing for the jobs aspect. Here is the thing,. The owner met with Lombardo based on reports but could not be bothered with getting grilled by the legislators to ANSWER very legitimate question about this deal. The ARROGANCE that he can't be bother to humble himself while asking for this very huge handout at the expense of funding for other much needed programs. MLB wants to give VEGAS a team for expansion. This is NOT the right team under this ownership. They will be much better off with an Expansion team and follow the model of the Knights. The jobs WILL come and not at the expense of tax payers. As a union member myself, you should fight for jobs BUT NOT at the expense of those workers hard earned tax dollars. Their lives will be impacted daily in SO MANY ways from Traffic congestion and ability to get to work, school etc. The A's current ownership DOES NOT get the struggles of everyday tax payers and people living paycheck to paycheck. VEGAS deserves BETTER. As an Oakland lifelong fan, I would not wish this ownership team and the games they play with on fans, the city, their employees or anyone. VEGAS can get a clean fresh NO TAX EXPENSE team under Expansion. Manfred WANTS this market.

I absolutely understand why he would be frustrated from out of state comment, and yes Californians should respect that boundary. At the same time this issue does not only effect Nevada, it also effects Oakland greatly. It will impact our economy too if he chooses to support Fisher’s A’s relocation bid. And maybe he should reach out to his constituents if so few have made their voices heard. A lot of people do not follow politics, even local stuff, unless it’s something big like a presidential election. Too often politicians only listen to those with deep pockets (who also don’t happen to be constituents).

Sports betting was basically legalized in courts and now all pro leagues are trying to have a team there. Problem though is Vegas is a very small market. No small market has survived with 3 let alone 4 or 5 with NBA,NFL,MLB,MLS,NHL. If they all cram in there I'm curious to see who dies and moves out in 15-20 years.
@taunton613
@taunton613 Год назад
The NHL broke the ice. After that SCOTUS, didn't legalize sports betting, but they lifted the federal ban and now states may have sportsbooks if they choose. So there is no more taboo about a pro team in Las Vegas. NBA might be next but some say if the state stops the A's things could change. Right now the corporations and the unions are on board--that doesn't always happen--and MLB will waive the relocation fee. If we don't get this done it might be a problem or it might not. We will see.

Not from Nevada are you? Lombardo's platform besides protecting mining and ranching, he was big on bringing in businesses to Nevada and was big on sports. Now that said, he probably does not care whether Las Vegas gets the A's, but he does not want to appear against them to Manfred and the moneyed Las Vegas interests in its favor who can get him voted out. Most likely Lombardo wants an expansion team like most Nevadans, but he cannot act like he doesn't want the A's nor risk appearing as if he doesn't care one way or another if they got voted down. It has been my experience that Republicans generally don't want public tax money going to things like stadiums unless it's a sure bet to be a money maker and this surprises me. The A's are not a sure bet to be a money maker in no way shape or form in a 30,000 seat stadium behind a casino not built yet nor even drawn up. You can be sure the A's are not making any money until the new stadium is up and running, but first they have to draw up a realistic one.

@@michaelbaucom4019 Peter Holt fills the bill... Whether the main owner of the Spurs is interested in buying a MLB team is unknown. But County Judge Nelson Wolff would love to land a MLB team. The city of San Antonio and Bexar County are WILLING to build a new stadium for a AAA team with two locations already sited downtown on the Riverwalk... That is like San Francisco building a stadium adjacent to Fisherman's Wharf. Upgrading a AAA stadium to a MLB stadium is just a matter of status San Antonio desires!

Nevada should go to 90 day session(odd year) and 60 day(even year). The odd year they do the 2 year budget. It is the 21st century, Also this should cut down on special sessions. BTW If the budget bills are done first then calling a special session would be less likely.

Nevada is a small state compared to TEXAS, which also meets every two years for a session... Sometimes TOO much politics is TOO much...
