Revell TOP GUN 1/48 Maverick’s F-14A TOMCAT Scale Model Aircraft Full Build 

at this point you should’ve built the tamiya kit and used the top gun decals

Love the overall look and a great finish, something I have learnt recently is to apply a gloss varnish to the whole model to seal everything in before applying decals, then glossing the decals before finishing off with a matt varnish would hide the clear edges of the decals.

Thank you for showing how you did the model. I have the Box laying on my tablet together with the F/A-18E Topgun and the big F/A-18F. I haven't done a jet before, so this was a great help. With the accent color and dirting. I have to say it looks like you got a old kit before revell revamped themselves. Mine has a different decal paper and a colored instruction also the part quality is more precise. Interestingly, I ordered mine July 2021 and you building it November 2021. Looks like you sadly got a old kit. Best regards Aleks

Classic Monogram kit ,... Just picked one up !

I like building the older Monogram kits. Monograms F-14 looks great even with raised panel lines. And it's a whole lot cheaper than the Tamiya kit.

I love the add-ons, don't get me wrong...but don't ever recall seeing them on an "A" model and never in the movie

This is the original Monogram kit from 1981. Interestingly they give you decals for the drop tanks but there are no tanks in the kit.

Why would you load out an A model Tomcat like it's a B model??? A models didn't have air to ground abilities only the B and D did.

All that work just to use revell's inaccurate Top gun decals. Especially the national insignia "Star and Bar" totally make believe insignias. The Real movie jets used the real American Markings. But you did do a fantastic job on the actual build. The model looks Fantastic!

I, too, wondered why you didn't build the Tamiya kit, but I thought you may have had some left-over Tamiya parts that you could incorporate into the Revell. I wondered why you didn't pain the helmets of the figures as Maverick and Goose. There are ways to avoid the shiny decal reflections that I see on the final show. But....I appreciate your video and I like your resulting paint job. Thank you for doing this film for us.

One detail you forgot, In top gun, the F-14's used were F-14 A's and the exhaust nozzle were painted black rather than the silver used in later Versions of the tomcat, but other than that, it looks great.

Hmm - except this isn't just a Revell build - which was what I was looking for. Lovely work btw but a bit of a 'flex' re your skills as you need to buy two kits to get the overall effect as the Tamiya one is almost double/triple the price of the Revell kit. A more accurate title to your vid would be useful.

I'm buying the paints for this model soon, I'm a paint brusher because I don't own an air brush, how would I get the shadows on the panel lines etc and

This costs over 30 dollars in my country

Are seats from tamiya kit fit the revell kit?

I had lots of issues with the joins in front of the wings splitting when I swept the wings

I bought this kit a few days ago and this will be the first and last Revell kit I buy. The quality is VERY bad and this was a kit from 2020, I already started painting but in the future I will stick with Tamiya kits, they have molds from 1998 that are better quality...

If real navy aviators saw your model they would be very offended. You can compare it to a Navy Seal without a trident on his chest. And you load your Tomcat with bombs from a former f-4 from the 70's. Don't get me wrong, You are probably a good scale modeller, but you should inform yourself better with navy information because it will offend you a lot that way.

Wouldn’t it have been easier just to build the tamiya? Revell are absolute shit.

You're plane looks great but your pilot's need work you didn't take time to at least paint the helmets Red and Blue goose and Maverick didn't wear white helmets that's the only inconsistency I see but it's a big deal if you want the plane to be accurate
