I wanted to see if the Flint could get similar ambient sounds to the blueSky and possibly replace it since it also has a tremolo. While the decay is excellent and even lasted a tiny bit longer, I couldn't give up the separate high and low tone knobs as well as the pre-delay on the blueSky.
If you are looking for one pedal to use for your tremolo and reverb, the Flint is a great choice. But in the end, I decided to keep the blueSky. While I mostly keep it on the "modulate setting" for ambient music, I use the Favorite switch to save a small room reverb for other styles.

80s mode on flint is probably the best reverbs I have ever heard. And works great with distorted guitars!

omg, ive said the exact same thing. i think the plate is better on the bluesky, and the extra controls and modes would be nice, but im thinking of getting the flint just for that 80s room reverb

Great demo of the 2.. I had a similar dilemma, but swapped the Flint for a blueSky. Wasn't sure if I wanted to keep the blueSky, but it adds such luscious texture for ambient sounds that I decided to hold onto it.

Leon Carlo Hey Leon, unfortunately I don't have the Flint or the BlueSky anymore, only the BigSky. You could always use tryapedal.net or pedalgenie.com to rent them and compare which you like better yourself.

sweet tone.. picked up a blue sky a few months ago. my head has no reverb(OR100) and man im so freaking glad i went with quality.. strymon has the best customer support ive ever experianced with pedals as well.. helping me dail in the sound i was looking for.

I think the Blue Sky would work better if you do more ambient than anything else. I have the Flint and yes it does really great ambient. But it’s also amazing for old school Doors/Creedence sounds with the tremolo.

I agree 100% with this assessment. I love my Flint. The Blue Sky here sounds lovely, but I'm not sure I'd make good use of its best features.

skyisland Totally agree, the Flint is amazing. For this I was trying to see if the reverb alone could allow me to replace the blueSky. Ultimately I decided to keep the blueSky for the additional features.

Craig Allen I am currently running an Earthquaker Devices Dispatch Master on my board. (I've watched another of your videos, and I know you're a fan of EQD's pedals. Do you have any experience with the DM?) I really like that pedal, as it is a reverb/delay combo. My question is this: Which pedal, the Flint or the blueSky, would be the best pairing with the Dispatch Master?

Hey Joshua Rowlett, I used to have the DM and loved it except for the loud footswitch. Since it has reverb and delay, I would probably go with the Flint since you'd then get 2 reverbs and a tremolo. I'd put the DM first and that way you can use the delay to add a ton of low repeats so push the Flint reverb a lot longer. You should also check out Old Blood Noise pedals - I have the Black Fountain (oil can delay) and Procession Reverb (which also has tremolo, flange, and filter (and is also cheaper and smaller than the Flint).

Such nice demo. Seeing some comments about blueSkay that is more ambiente than Flint but is it only me or Flint is actually very ambient reverb especially with decay set high..

They are both unique in terms of reverb. I love the tremolo on the Flint but ultimately ended up keeping the Bluesky and getting another pedal for tremolo.

Love the sound of the 80's verb on the Flint, but is it really that noisey? I've noticed on a few different videos now that there seems to be a high pitched squeal when engaged..

The high pitched squeel is your power supply, probably you're sharing an isolated output. Put it on a Zuma or on it's own isolated output on a PP2 or 4x4 or even the stock wall wart.

Mine was doing that too, and I figured out that even though it was on its own isolated output from a Cioks power supply, there was a BOSS pedal right next to it that still had a 9v battery inside it. I took that battery out and the squeal went away immediately.

wow... these pedals sound VERY noisy when engaged. Is that just a poor power supply or are they really that bad? Edit: Since I saw you gave this comment a heart, I will add an update. I have since purchased a Big Sky and a Timeline. Both of these pedals are quiet. I suspect this additional noise was predominantly a noisy power supply.

Flint goes something like twurrk, twurk, twurrk: Blue Sky goes twerrk. twerrk, twerrk... Flint is more 'urr' Blue Sky more 'err' - Flint is darker at these settings, a touch warmer.

@Gefferson Bitencourt they work beautifully together, if I had to make a small board and could only take one, it would be the flint since it has trem Blue sky has a very different tone and more control over the reverb. I like that you can adjust the brightness of the highs and lows on it.
