Longtime Rev user here - that bass-cut control is truly genius when playing live. Let the bass player do his thing, while you (as the guitarist) dominate the mids. Trust me on this, the bass cut is the easiest way to remove mush from a bands sound that can be found...

A tone knob simply being a treble roll-off, the bass roll-off pretty much makes the control layout "volume, treble, bass" which makes so much more sense than what any other manufacturers are doing.

I have a Bigsby on an Epi SG. I put locking tuners and rollers all over it (nut and bridge) which fixed any string binding issue. and I can floor the bigsby (mounted with it's nylon shim), the low E goes almost totally limp. It returns to near perfect tune (so says the Polytune mini) every time. I actually think Bigsbys are very stable - I just think they more often get mounted on guitars that have issues with binding. Comparing these to a lot of FR-equipped guitars which will tend to have locking tuners/nuts is not exactly fair.
@DriveCarToBar
@DriveCarToBar 7 лет назад
The tuning problems of a Bigsby aren't actually a problem, it's a feature. After using the Bigsby, it puts your guitar in a flattened tune for you because it loves you.

Why don't more manufacturers put roller bridges on guitars with Bigsby's? It would help immensely with the tuning stability. I played a Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet with a Bigsby which was awesome but same issue. These guitars look awesome though. I love Reverend's designs. Nice to see something original.
@DrumWild
@DrumWild 7 лет назад
Mark Whitelaw I have one of those as well. Added Nut Sauce and worked it for hours, strumming and dive-bombing. Now it stays in tune, but it was a journey that required some effort. My Strat has a nut with bearings on it, which would be nice on the Gretsch.
@m0j0b0ne
@m0j0b0ne 7 лет назад
The main reason is tone, but it's also a little bit about sustain; if a roller saddle is loose enough to travel north and south easily, there has to to be some east/west wiggle room, which necessarily will rob some sustain. The bigger issue is bridge material; brass, steel and aluminum all sound very different, and as far as I'm aware, there aren't any aluminum roller bridges. I presume most folks that want a vintage Gretsch design are desiring the vintage 'Great Gretsch Sound' that comes with and very few original examples have what I'd call a roller bridge.
@userPrehistoricman
@userPrehistoricman 7 лет назад
It would also help if they didn't route the strings below that big bar. I can't remember the guy but somebody did a video on Bigsby's and how routing the strings under the bar wasn't ideal.
@markwhitelaw7192

Mojo Bone The Mastery Bridge and tremolo system destroys all other old antique outdated systems like Bigsby...Originally designed for offset guitars (Fender-Jazzmaster) Mastery bridges and trem systems are superior. Thanks man but, its not the 1970's anymore.

With a properly cut nut and straight string pull, a step and a half (or three half steps) in either direction should be possible with a B5 Bigsby, even without locking tuners.With a roller nut, roller bridge, locking tuners and a B2 you can get jiggy with it; a step and a half up and you can go nearly slack in the other direction and still be in tune; the trick is a slight upward tug after any major dive- it pulls any slack from between the nut and the tuners. It's a slick stage move that can be done in the space of a 16th note; you're welcome.
@gchampi2
@gchampi2 7 лет назад
Mojo Bone - Add in some decent nut lube (Oo-err missus!) & you can get away with a pretty poorly cut nut. Forget Nut-Sauce, get yourself to a local locksmith & buy 50g/2oz of powdered graphite. Mix said graphite with the same weight of vaseline (I find a well-washed doritos salsa jar ideal for this). Hey Presto, a big pot of black goop that will probably out-last you, your children, your grand-children & possibly a couple of generations of grands... Just be sure to use miniscule amounts in each nut slot, and stay well away from anything white - greasy black graphite-goop will leave stains... Cheers... G
@m0j0b0ne
@m0j0b0ne 7 лет назад
+gchampi2 A self-lubricating synthetic nut can also be a great option and it won't stain your stagewear. I think it was the Nuge who said there seldom comes a situation that ain't improved by lubrication.

Why does everyone slam Chappers for his shredding? Regardless of if you enjoy the style or not, it's a demonstration of the instrument.
@ultrafloss492
@ultrafloss492 7 лет назад
Ferinus 1350 well I think most that do speak about that don't have an issue with the shredding but rather the sound. When the gain is up, different distortion effect pedals are used, the character of the pickups are disrupted to such an extend that it could be any other guitar. For example this guitar would be in my opinion great for surf rock, modal jazz or even that swampy blues kind of sound but due to the use of such effects the character of what makes that guitar unique are obliterated. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy watching the reviews but they could be a lot more informative.

I always love seeing new videos from anyone from the Andertons/Chapman crew. It would be awesome if there was a way to have the audio from the instruments match the speaking volume. I find that I have to turn the volume down during the playing and turn it back up to hear the dialogue. Just my observation.

The Double Agent OG (neck P-90, bridge HB) is a lot of guitar for not a huge amount of money. They've got more recognition and respect in the US, where they're treated as a (relatively) mature maker and not a novelty brand. Definitely suited more to chordal and arpeggiated playing with crunch than shredding: check out Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak / Flock of Dimes) and Katie Harkin (ex Sky Larkin).

1.) Reverend sells a soft spring for Bigsbys that makes them much more sensitive. I don't know if they put them in their stock guitars, but they make a big difference. 2.) I love Rob, but he's dead wrong about Bigsby tuning stability. To the contrary, it's the only trem that holds tune if a string breaks. If you're having tuning issues with one, the problem's either in the nut or the bridge. Lube that shit, or get a roller bridge. Both, ideally. 3.) I live in America and want one of those Anderton's shirts. In that blue. How can this be made to happen? I will pay in honest currency.
