Join me in this tutorial and we will make a striped headband in one piece. You will also learn how to graft the ends using the Kitchener stitch!
Ohhh, we will also practice a perfect Jogless join! 😍😀
I will use my Addi 46 needle machine and Bernat Premium yarn in red and white.
Have fun and be sure to show me your colour variations in my FB group.

Make this longer and it could become a winter neck warmer. Imagine that with a winter hat…gorgeous. X you don’t know how long I’ve been wanting to do that but didn’t know how to get the stretch.

Can I suggest trying the way Calumet Knits does her colour change? It doesn’t require any playing with other than tightening your knots. You just use a loom hook to keep the colour on the hook. Hard for me to explain because I’m a newbie but really simple to do!

Thank you for the suggestion. There are several ways to do it. I will check it out.

Can you explain why the pattern of 10-7-7-7-11 is preferred over 7-7-7-21? I'm just learning and knowing*why* a project is done a certain way helps me understand the overall process, so it can be carried over to later projects. Thank you, Shelley. Your videos are so well done, with easy-to-understand instructions.
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet 11 месяцев назад
Because then your seam is in the middle on the inside. If you did it 7-7-7-21 your seam would be at the top or bottom and you would see it when you wear it.
@cassieporter9262
@cassieporter9262 11 месяцев назад
@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet That makes sense, because at the top or bottom it would have the "rougher" look of the ends of a scarf. We can't exactly pretty up a headband with tassels, can we? 🙄

No we cannot! Hahahaha

Hello, I would like to ask you a question. I would like to use this pattern to make a Puerto Rican headband. Your pattern says 21 for the three stripes. The Puerto Rican flag has three red and two white stripes. How can I make it to look even. The red stripes are just a tad thicker than the white.
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet 8 месяцев назад
I just looked up the flag and it says the red and white are equal width. You could do the stripes 4 rows each making the total 20 rows. Then just do 10 rows on either side of the patterning. If you want them wider then do each stripe 5 rows. Then do 12 and 13 rows on either side to match row counts. Doing 5 row thickness may make your headband too wide though.

My problem with changing colors is I sometimes get a dropped stitch. 😔
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet 12 дней назад
@@philrica you have to make sure that both you tail end are between the same two needles. Knit a few stitches and then tie a firm knot with the two ends. Or, try the jogless join. I have a video on it. That may also help.

How wide is this headband in inches? I have a Sentro 40 pin, should I add more rows? I’m going to I’ve this a try. It’s so cute.
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet 9 месяцев назад
I do r have one here to measure but the more rows you add the wider it will be. Adding more rows doesn’t make it wider in circumference. It makes it wider in height. Your 40 needle machine will not fit an adult head with this pattern.

How do you actually make children's headbands (very straight) for a boy?
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet 10 месяцев назад
Same way as the video. Or just make a tube the length you need to fit around the head and seam the ends together.
