The 13/14 GT500 has several things over the new one. 1) Manual transmission 2) Approx. 300 pounds lighter 3) Avoids gas tax and gets better MPG 4) More comfortable Recaros 5) Cheaper 6) Stamp of approval from Mr. Shelby himself 7) First to reach 200 mph 8) Easier to work on, less computers 9) Looks like a 60s Mustang 10) Was compared to cars twice it's value at the time and was beating them.
It’s because it handles slightly better than a pig (in stock form) and brakes suck. I love this car. Once you lower it, put on a watts link in the rear, and change the brakes and rotors, you can’t go wrong with it. I’ll take this over the new GT500 any day.
@@HardinRacingHPS my bad you’re right, when I think of the 2010-14s the 5.0 is stuck in my head cuz the 2010 they still put the 4.6 in the GT. Tell your 2010 GT500 to dry its eyes, it’s accepted.
@@Justin_GFM it was but it still kept the iron block so I really dig that, rn it has a 2014 blower on it so I pretend it is one 😮💨 even changed the rear gears to 3.27s for a little more top end.... lol
I have a '14 and I absolutely love it! The crazy thing about it is with relatively little money in mods, it cranks out serious power. Pulley, CAI, T/B, tune and you could be pulling around 700rwhp. Plus a LTH and Corsa Extreme exhaust setup make this beast scream!
Well of course you don’t need to put much money into the mods because you’re already paying for it with the price of the car. I can make my ‘13 GT faster than your 500 by modding it and overall for cheaper too
@@SideStrafed no you couldn’t. The Shelby has a 5.8L V8 engine. It can handle more boost and better. It also has the Shelby name too. Way better than any modded GT. Although those are awesome too so I’m not going to knock ‘em they turn serious numbers too
@hownottogamehntg1466 exactly! That's like the 392 owners saying they could make their cars faster than a Hellcat...Yea you could, but to what extent 💰 😂
After 6 years in Germany my family and our '13 Shelby GT500 will be returning to the US in July 2023. She has had a really great time here. Usually, on the autobahn, we average 110-150 MPH. We have been close to 200 MPH for short periods because due to autobahn improvements and repairs you can't go a long way like that and you really don't want to. There has been a movement to take away the unlimited speeds and go with the rest of the EU and have a max speed of 120/130 KPH or 72/78 MPH. I hope, if they do, they wait until July 2023 when we will be gone. The one thing that I still feel uneasy about is passing the Polizei and they don't come after you.
These cars are severely underrated. Start with the Trinity engine, dual-clutch six-speed MANUAL trans, carbon fiber driveshaft, Torsen rear axle. Yeah, the entire drivetrain is unique to the GT500's in '13 & '14. It isn't a huffed and stuffed base engine. Oh, and Ford GT cams. These things are FAST. Mine is bone-stock, 7,500 miles and I only run 101 octane fuel. I fitted mine with 325 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's on the rear (requires an adjustable track bar). Even with that rubber, it will spin the tires at 80 in 3rd, and not just a little bit. Zero to sixty can be done in first gear. I forgot that in my testing, shifted, cussed, and still ripped a 4.0 flat. I don't have a Hellcat or new GT500, and here's why: Hellcats aren't special enough, they put that engine in EVERYTHING. The new GT500 has no stick shift, an unremarkable engine, is too heavy, and they couldn't even put the rear brake calipers in the proper location. Save your hate mail, lot's of folks like those cars, and that's perfectly fine. My opinion is my own. The 2013 's are special, which is why there are more '14's in the market at any given time. I sometimes think about selling mine, because I'm getting old and worry about my skills being able to handle such a beast. I just can't think of anything I can remotely afford that even comes close.
Before yes but you have to drive a stick with zero mistakes with changing at the right rpm to keep up with an automatic years ago your right but not with today's automatic 10 speeds
@@thomasbrown7059 it ain’t that hard to learn to drive stick competitively, obviously the new 10 speeds perform better but that’s not the point of buying standard car in 2023 it’s for the feel of a manual gear box
@@gabrielferrar6996 no it's about how fast it is believe me I know how to drive a stick shift perfect but these new cars you don't need one that's why they are extinct
@@thomasbrown7059 reread my comment I was agreeing the automatics are faster but if you can drive a stick shift good enough it’s not that big of a difference but it’s enough of a difference(gearing and staying in the powerband is more important than slightly quicker shifts). My other point was people like the feeling of driving a manual (you feel more in sync with the car, more fun, more of a race car feel)
Damn bro that was like 7-8 years ago. Got me thinking back to my teen days lol. Lowkey was waiting for this review for a while too and forgot so this is indeed dope👌🏽
Honestly my favorite muscle car of the modern era and of all time to be honest, i love my modern and old muscle but this was a great combination of all of that, definitely might get one in a few years of they're still cheap lol.
Matt, I have been a subscriber since the BRZ days and found you originally from the “how to drive stick shift” video. You helped solidify my choice in buying my 2010 GT500. Your reviews and personality have been a fixture for my family and I for many years. Thank you for publishing your journey from BRZ to Mini to Ecoboost to GT to Bullitt. It’s been a great decade and a bit. God bless you and your family.
Thank you for your comment and for your support of the channel all these years! It really means a lot! I hope your GT500 is still treating you well and I wish you and your family all the best too!
I owned a new 2011, 1st year with the 5.4 aluminum block. 550hp. Was my daily driver for 3 years. Fantastic car all round, well built. The 13-14 are on my to buy list. After 2015 the redesign doesn't say Mustang to me.
Great review Matt! I have a hard time accepting that this S197 GT500 is eight years old. It seems like yesterday when they were brand new! I've owned several of them through the years and they continue to be my favorite modern body style of Mustang.
Hey Matt kind of regarding the video I just want to say growing up I loved watching your videos man. U do some amazing work and so much respect to you. Continuing that fortunately I was able to make a choice between a 2014 shelby and a brand new gt premium and although these s197s are monsters I needed the car as a daily and just couldn't see myself put sm miles on an iconic car. I just placed a deposit on my first ever mustang at the age of 21 man and honestly u helped my love of mustang grow bro. From watching u get that ecoboost to reviewing a boss302 and eventually getting ur own bullit! I just want to say thank you... and keep pushing out that content!
That's my dream car. I like the GT350 almost as much. I like the new GT500 but I just don't like the front end that much. would be amazing to own any of those cars
I’ve owned a lot of fun cars. Got my ‘14 GT500 almost 2 years ago … still love it with no plans to ever sell it.. this one is my favorite in terms of fun factor
They did get attention in their day but the hellcat cars make "over 700 horsepower" which sounds better than 662 because 99% of the population only think about power and not weight or actual performance.
@@midnight347 not only that but Dodge marketing team is out of this world with their ads. Also these cars were only made 2 years while the hellcat is out since 2015 so I guess people move on, unless this is your dream car. I know one thing for sure, I won't be selling mine ever!!! Lol
With out a doubt I would have this over the s550 GT500. Firstly manual and secondly I think these look better. Now I would add if I could do a 2022 Mach 1 I would. Best 5.0 to date mated to a Tremec 6 speed. And all the handling benefits from the Gt350.
My favorite S550 is definitely the GT350. It has a better manual and such a special engine. I live in Europe though and since the Mustang is rather rare here I'd be happy with a normal boring GT because that's still special here and it's THE Mustang.
I think the s550 gt500 is one of the best looking mustangs ever, agressive, sporty, but not too over the top in terms of it's appearance. But I can see where you're coming from.
I almost bought one of these GT500’s over my S550 5.0 because the 2013-2014 Mustangs were some of the best looking imo but I knew deep down that a 700HP Mustang with a live axle was a bit unsettling so I went with the S550 for the IRS.
I love how respectful you are to the car and how aware you are of its powers and weaknesses! At our local beach we have this long parking lot that follows the curves of the seaside road right next to it. Then there's a concrete wall going up to the seaside park. Every now and then during the summer we have car meets on that parking lot. Typically they go very nicely and quietly but last weekend someone decided to floor a 2010-ish Mustang around the corner. Came flying sideways just a few inches from my front bumper and proceeded to crash head on into the wall two or three spots away from where I was parked... At first I was like "Oh no, poor guy, he must feel so bad about it!" But then I thought "Well, he should - he floored it in between parked cars and walking people!" He also ended up damaging some public property in the form of service channels with cables and what not, which runs down said wall. It really saddens me how many of these end up in the hands of incompetent drivers...
3 years ago I was going to buy a 2014 gt500 fully loaded at $40,000, I should have taken that opportunity. You won't find one under $60,000 with this terrible market.
I bought my 14 GT500 a little over 2 years ago, before everything went crazy,SVT TRACK PACK, with tech package,13k miles for 51k it's white with blue stripes.all stock.it Still has 13k miles,I don't drive it much.stays covered up in my garage,
Great GT500, also adoring the final s197s! Btw Matt never thanked you, but it's mostly thanks to your Bullitt ownership videos I decided to buy my own Bullitt s550 and what a great car that is!
that was a great review I have a 2014 GT 500 with a V8 super charger cold air intake special deep dish mags racing seats glass roof and racing harnesses six on the floor I put sway bars on so it wouldn’t twerk or do an epic fail. loved your facial expressions when you were shifting the gears because I do the same thing it’s so much fun to drive reminded me of David Patterson when he’s reviewing cars shifting gears he laughs maniacally as he’s going through the pulls - That much horsepower with four pipes in the back super loud gets everybody around you going when I hear it what a frequency nothing like it great job you get an A+ reviewing it I wouldn’t sell mine for anything I love it
I love that car! I owned a Ruby Red with black stripes! I prefer this 2014 over the new one only because it has the mansmission(manual 6speed)! The new one I feel isn’t connected to the driver because it’s automatic! They should have given the new car both transmissions in my opinion
I like them not just because of the manual. There’s that torque that hits instantly, the bespoke 5.8 engine, it has some refinement but an otherwise raw experience, the supercharger whine is louder, and the exhaust has a sound on its own.
I remember watching your review on the 8th gen si sedan and I absolutely love it still and have so many plans for it but i am also looking for a V8 and i’m really looking into this one for one of my next cars to go after along with my si
Wow…what a RAW car. It scream “I kick ass all day”. My DREAM car. The 2013-14 GT 500 body is timeless. So much smile on my face just looking at one. I might have a heart attack ,if I have an opportunity to own one when I retire. What a sexy raw kick ass all day s197.❤✌🏼
I just bought a 2014 Shelby Gt500, had a 07 Shelby before! This one the clutch is a little bit harder to press down. But I am getting used to it! Cool Thanks!
I owned a ‘12 GT500 back in the day, the one with “only” 550hp. It was a good car, but the electronics are dated and it can’t hook up to save its life. Now I have a ‘21 and have to say I like it better. They sure looked good though.
And 13-14 were the last years you could get a convertible GT500, absolutely love my 14 ragtop, right at 700 crank with minimal mods, worth more than when I bought it used in 2015 and never plan on selling it
I’ve read through forums and watched several videos and still torn between this and a 2015 Hellcat Challenger both are roughly the same price in this market.
C&D Lightning Lap - 2020 GT500 (22nd Place) 2:44.6 lap time - 2013 GT500 (130th Place) 3:00.6 lap time If you like to peruse cars and coffee, the 2013/2014 is great. If you track, this isn't even close.
Yeah I just sold my 2010 GT in Kona blue and I loved how deep the blue was. I’ve got a 2021 Echoboost now in black which is very sharp but I do miss that beautiful blue. Keep up that wonderful enthusiasm in your reviews, love watching your channel 😁
The one thing I don't like about my '14 is the speedometer- it's hard to read at a glance since the whole range of needle travel is compressed into 180 degrees on the dial.
Im debating on a 11 model vs a 14 model. Im going to modify it. I think you can make a 2011 look like a 2014, and then for some simple mods gpu can make it just as fast and fun to drive. Yeah i know the 14 will make more power mod for mod, i also think about 600whp is the most i want for tye street and daily driving.
Buy a clean 2007 GT500 for $32K and spend your upgrade budget on the iron block 5.4. You will save money in the long run. I would love to have a 2014 GT500 (currently have a 2007 GT500), but a clean 2014 GT500 costs almost twice what my 2007 costs. I'm going to upgrade mine to the HP that the 2014 had and not spend the extra 30K to buy a 2014.
