Song dynasty dao are such impressively brutal cleavers, some of the only swords where describing them like "this thing is a beast" is actually a compliment.
I knew that you would do some amazing cutting with this blade! My favorite period in military history is East Asia from the 10-13th centuries in part because you have weapons like this!
This period is my favorite in East Asian military history too, not only it had weapons like this, but it also witnessed the emergence of gunpowder weapons like rocket arrows and fire lances.
That sword is THICK. Wowza! You absolutely crushed the cutting with this sword. If I saw you holding this on the battlefield, I'd pee my pants while I was running away.
Every single thing about this sword, from its name, to the broadening profile and its proportions, and the cross section of the targets it cuts, is terrifying. Thanks for the impressive demonstration!
Tremendous work! Good job showcasing this mean mean dao. Glad to see the Song Dynasty continuing to be showcased, and that you chose targets to properly challenge the blade design. Great overview and as always lovely performance.
I did enjoy this useful review!!! I’m planning on scooping a sword from LK Chen, but it will be my first sword, so I’m doing a lot Of research. Cutting things cannot be as easy as you make it look! However, one day I hope to be able to cut things 1/3 as well as you do! Splendid video!
Great vid, Mr. Marten! I hope I get the chance to review this model. Indeed, anti-cavalry weapons were nasty business. Those battlefields must have looked like a scene from Hell.
From my knowledge, it was rather typical of that era. However simpler straight hand guards, hand guards of other shapes, and swords with no apparent guards also existed.
