Flames of War has pushed out past the end of the war with both Late War Leviathans, and the new Clash of Steel Game. Today we're looking at the new T-44M and T-54-1 plastic kits from Battlefront.
As always, we look at some history of these post-war Soviet vehicles as well as how they'll go on the table, and what the plastic looks like.

Harry… Top notch performance from you as always… and I must say that the T-44 is a Sexy Beast… I may have to proxy enough of the turret sprues to make all my existing T-55s into T-44s … I sure hope The T-44 makes it into Checkpoint Charlie or maybe even a PDF to get these late war Leviathans into Team Yankee

Eric - I have always had a soft spot for the T-44. However I did enjoy the new T-54-1 as well. I expect these will work in Checkpoint Charlie if it ever makes an appearance.

Very nice review. The T-44 is no Super Tank in Late War. I think one could use some saying it is a "Troop Trial Unit" in a normal game of FoW. To me the T-44 is - when it comes to histirical accuracy - the same as the RAM in the british Bulge book. BTW: Build and painted two and like them. I also like the T-54-1 because now there is a model available which is clearly a T-54. T-54s in FoaN or NAM are the usual T-55 kit. Now my egyptians can get some "real" T-54s, although they never got the T-54-1.

The T-54-3 (1951) and T-54A/B were visually similar and by far the most produced version of the platform that formed the bases for the early T-55

There were three units issued T-44, but they were trials units and not used in action. I’m sure it wouldn’t take much imagination to craft a quasi-historical scenario where these were used operationally.

I Love your reviews and I have a soft spot for these late war post war tank developments especially T-44 , T54's , can not wait to try the 'Doom Turtle' attacking the Siegfried Line and a bit of fun what 'if' battles late & post war....not sure but didn't General Patton want to push further East ? Oh and a big Thank you about the Free late war Leviathan PDF ...I didn't know there was one available . Looking forward to my delivery of Soviet / American Clash of Steel , Thanks again for another great product review

Glad the Leviathans PDF will be useful. Good luck with all this. It sounds like it’s really going to suit you.

I would love to see what a T-44 and IS-3 equipped unit would do against standard German and allied opponents, how these vehicles could have entirely been used in WW2 even without extending it to 1946.

Of all the nations in LWL, the Soviets are the most grounded in reality. A 1946 scenario with them is not a big stretch…

@@FogofWar Yeah, the Germans either get cancelled vehicles that were never due for mass production of completely fictional amalginations like Panther II being a combination of a new production type hull, a smaller turret and a larger gun that all cannot work with eachover due to the fact it all literall collides with eachover. The US gets vehicles that were far too heavy to actually transport across the atantic or make bridges that could let them cross rivers, honourable exceptions to the T28/T95 which got cancelled and the T29/30/34 series of technology demonstrators again not intended for service.

T-44 was in Hungary, 1945

The T-44 was used in action in Hungary, but in 1956. They were part of Soviet efforts to suppress an uprising, operating in Budapest.
