Frumpy with a capital F. Thanks for this review. I love that you talk about fitting issues.

Agree with you on the shoulders. Always have to alter those. And I consider myself to have wider shoulders.

I enjoyed this presentation. I agree with your evaluations. Unisex pants and shorts not a great idea.

I could see unisex shorts/pants making sense for kids - but WHY would anyone want to go to the trouble of sewing their own clothes when the pattern is by definition not going to fit then well?

Thank you! The shirtdress with tiers and no waist seam is interesting. Your 'tunic' into dress is cute, no thanks to low rise pants. Love the Tiltons. Love the lounge set - ready for the neighbors to drop by.

I just made a Palmer/Pletsch knit top, OMG what a pain. The shoulders were a mess, cut way to square. I had to mess with the pattern too much. I agree with you on the unisex pattern. I have enough trouble getting a pattern to fit designed for a woman.

That last tunic: I saw it in the window of JCrew 2 weeks ago!

I like your explanations because you have the actual experience, as opposed to that of a lot of people on the internet trying to convince you of something just because they google it! I agree with you on the less than ideal fitting of some of these patterns. Sometimes, I wonder how the companies are communicating amongst all involved, and it seems at times like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Who is making the decisions? Do they saw? Do they understand tailoring, or are they just trying to sell you a pattern?

Oh yah. There’s no communication among brands. lol. I don’t know how many of the team members sew. I know social media team does, but does the graphic designer?! Prob not.

Thank you, Lindsey! I always enjoy your perspective. Fitting and ease are concepts that I continue to struggle with, so I appreciate your thoughts on the subject. I will probably purchase B6975, B6974, and B6983. I love shirt dresses and tiered dresses. Even if the ease on some of these need tweeking, I would rather have it in my collection, than not. But, I agree that the fit is really off on this group. As for the unisex pattern, the answer will always be a "no" for me. And, I must say "no" to the Hillary Clinton jacket. 😂 She hit the nail on the head!

I liked this collection. I noticed that the clothing on some was very oversized. Good basics.

there's a reason people are going Indie. These looks are too old for me. Hey I am in my 80ties. but I like a more up to date look.

"BUTT EATING" in reference to the pants.🤣 I do think that was the style they were trying to achieve here though. Only one I would make is the retro wrap skirt. The dress has a ton of pics on IG. I think it's called the walk away dress. Not too cute made up, looks home made in IMHO. Thanks for your honest reviews!!

Thank you for your time and thoughts. Think you were kind and looking for ways for sewists to see the possibility….just..maybe. Unisex, just no for anyone over age of 11 as many said. Nothing here for me, style or body shape.

When you were trying to pin down what that concealed placket jacket reminded you of, I was yelling 'Hillary Clinton! Hillary Clinton!' Hillary Clinton wears that jacket on every talk show! Total Hillary Clinton vibe in the all the upscale looks of this collection, even the lounge suit. I really liked the asymmetrical button shirt; your idea of making it into a dress is a winner! If Butterick had thought of that, they probably would sell a lot more of that design. I also love that high-necked tunic. Somehow the fabric outlet store by me is stocking Libery of London cottons for $24/yard so boho blouses are obsessively calling my name. Man, these pattern co's need to listen to your videos!

So frustrating that we have to guess so many of a pattern’s features. I’ve seen too many pants patterns where the pictures of everything above the hips is covered by an untucked shirt or a long jacket. Or how about a shirt where the model’s hands are covering a pocket or sleeve tops?

Please, which KAI would be best for single layer fabric,(creating womens bags out of fabric and yarn, as also sewing)? KAI N5210KE (knife edge) or the KAI V5210B ??? I don't want serations, because I sharpen them with ceramic stones

B6978 cape made in wool blend and pant in twill would look great. I would never wear this satin version

When the coat reminded you of something I was laughing. I know what it reminds me of. It's the top that Hillary Clinton always wears. I kind of like it.

This collection depressed me. I didn't feel like there was an overall style perspective, unless it was 'home ec patterns from the 80s and 90s' and I remember those. The one blouse/tunic with the stand-up collar was interesting, and a couple of the P&P patterns looked okay (though not special), but what happened to the rest? I used to really like Butterick. The fit and sizing categories seem all over the place. Who is their target customer right now?
@kelleyking
@kelleyking 6 месяцев назад
Thoughts: the tunic with an asymmetrical button band hits at the widest part of the hips and totally obscures the waist. Second: are they aiming at women in their 90s? Because a lot of these cuts are so old lady that my 80-something mom wouldn’t wear them. At best, they’re very 2016. Third: unisex clothes are just an insult to women. We all know they are cut for men. SMDH. That said, there are a couple that are good basics here for people who haven’t had to create a storage system for the 100s of patterns they already own😊. The men’s shirt is very nice (for men). The wide leg trousers are current and look great.

Well, never mind. Now that I see the backsides, I’m not sure either is so good.

@42 I noticed those really long fashions came in several years ago with the change in population to more Muslim women sewing. They are more covered up.

They're all in the stock room. They don't have the staff to put them out. Simplicity might do well to hire their own people to put the patterns out.

I will say I appreciate you trying to find and describe something to redeem this collection however, this was not good. The 2 items that I would consider aren’t worth buying the entire pattern unless it’s super sale. Nothing new or exciting and that’s unfortunate.😕
