3:20 Completely agreed. Especially in this (very) budget class. There is no need of baby-sitting here (monitoring the battery level; exposing the watch to the light regularly and so on). And don't get me wrong, the solar-charging is a very cool thing and technology, especially in the capacitor-driven EcoDrive. If this negative display version is so legible (as an electricity bill on a full-moon light), I can only imagine how good is the positive display version one in this respect. Thank you for the good review!
I love solar, but nothing lasts forever. Each watch has it's pros/cons, and sometimes a simple battery operated quartz beats a solar watch just from it's almost maintenance-free operation. I think the positive version will have fantastic visibility, but like I said in the video, their ability to make this negative display so clear is what is very impressive.
This looks like a much better alternative to the entry-level G-Shock lookalikes that Casio sells. Excellent value. Oh and I'm not seeing any ads on the video btw. Cheers!
Dude that's an awesome comment and I really appreciate that. It's the watches that don't get much exposure that I'm most curious about. Because they don't get any exposure! lol😂
I think the negative display looks very clear and crisp due to the huge size of it. And yep, I dig this watch. Been waiting the full review of this since it appears in the casio site few weeks ago. Thanks!
I purchased it recently from Lahore (Pakistan) and it's really a practical and beautiful watch, specially the negative display looks awesome. Budget friendly but very cool in style. Battery is great, good job Casio. And thanks for the review Simucom.
The negative display looks super crisp and clear. Size looks to be just right. I'll be stopping by Walmart today to see if there's stock. Great review. From what I see it's the very first one on RU-vid. ⌚😁⌚
Yup, all 4 walmarts in my area dont have them yet. But I'll wait a bit. Also, The 6 fake "screws" i kinda don't like so I'll be modding that and drilling 6 tiny holes and adding 6 stainless steal screws on top of the fake ones. So I guess I am buying 2 watches just in case I mess up. Haha!
Omg, this is first normall ae1500 review that i waiting for so long, man thank you from Ukraine! Will be very appreciate if you compare different displays, as for me negative favorite)
I love the AE1500. Walmart online featured the Tan (Kaki?) version for 19.99 so I jumped on it. The screen is easy on my bad eyes. Today I ordered the other two versions. It's like scratching a good itch...The Casio Itch! I should be in advertising.
I've just pulled the trigger on this watch and its positive display brother. I should get both in a few days. They are for my husband. Thank you for the great review!
I also bought both, but I hated the negative display. You had to look at it almost straight on and in plenty of light to see it; it sucked. I love the positive display. I sold the negative display the next day on Ebay.
I was looking at gshock when i saw this piece, glad I bought it. Still want a square gshock but for the meantime this will do. I usually wear this when exercising and doing chores. Just be careful with the display as it scratches easily but no big deal.
Resin/Acrylic crystals scratch easily but fortunately they also polish easily as long as the scratch isn't too deep. A lot of people use Polywatch to buff out shallow scratches. Great choice BTW.
Just got this one for 29,95€. An absolute steal! Gives many ("budget") G-Shocks a good run for their money. Best negative display I've ever seen on any Casio.
In dual time, the main time should've been displayed on the top right corner but that can be overlooked for how good this one is. Wish they had used an Electroluminescent backlight.
Not sure if any of the "AE" models have EL light. Perhaps the amber light is a theme that Casio specifically keeps for the AE line. I have a fondness for this style because it reminds me of the light bulbs we used on the submarine for when we had to "go dark" for periscope operations at night time.
@@degenerateWA I don't mind that on the positive display version, the negative display one would look better with the EL light. But that's just my opinion.
Just picked this up today for a beater work watch. I work outside running equipment and light duty stuff. I think it looks sharp but won’t be too upset if it gets ruined.
Brilliant video and great informative info too! Just one question what's the negative display like in the sun / outdoors is the watch still legible to read clearly did to the large numbers on the dial? Keep up the great work and stay safe pal!
Im impressed💪🏼 for a budget casio & for a resin glass only it can withstand 10bar or 300Feet wow😳👌🏻 for an introductory dive class at least the depth is 40ft but the AE can dive up to 300feet🤜🏼💪🏼
I have the AW 1500WH grey resin with negative display & absolutely love it. I really want to find a black with negative display but can't find one. I bought it & a GA700uc-1a G shock & I find myself switching back & forth. Both are superb. I really wish I could find a black with negative display tho.
Depending on your comfort level with price there are some G Shocks that are black on black. There's a 2310, 9400, 8900, and 5610 that come in the black color scheme.
I mean it's so cheap that there's nothing stopping you from just buying the positive display model with a black case and swapping the inverted LCD module in there. Casio watches are like old Nokia's, they're pretty customisable.
Saludos
Casio’s model numbers can be perplexing. Except for the AE1300 (Countdown/RefereeTimer), all the AExxxx (AE1000, 1100, 1200, 1400, 2000, 2100 & 3000) models are World Time watches, with mostly identical operations to the A500WA. This new AE1500 doesn’t seem have any connection to the other AE models.
I would say the only connection is the great price and backlight. I know there is an explanation of model number codes for G-Shocks but I have not seen one for regular Casio's. Would be very interested in seeing one.
I just wish they would of just put “illuminator” and “10 year battery” on the back or just on the box. The watch looks great it’s just if those two things were not on it, it would look perfect.
Solar watches can last a lot longer than 10 years. Some solar watches are still running after 20 years. But it's important to charge it on a regular basis.
They can last longer than 10. Some last 8 years, some last 15, 20, etc, etc. It all depends on how they've been cared for. I've found 10 years seems to be the safe average which is still great.
I've got dozens of solar watches that have surpassed the 25yr mark without issue. World wide, the average lifespan of a watch solar capacitor is 23.5yrs when properly cared for. Some clown after me will probably try to claim that his solar watch died after 2yrs, (because he overexposed the solar panel or destroyed it with moronic levels of abuse). Though we all know he would simply be making up his BS 2yr claim! A 10yr battery in a cheap watch is cool, but let's not kid ourselves about the lifespan of solar watches that can make excessive use of their backlight without reducing their lifespan like single use batteries.
That watch is amazing except having the 10 year battery script is a deal breaker for me, my buddy tried to remove the paint with goof off and the plastic changed color to a milky white, he ruined it
@@degenerateWA I agree, a simple caseback sticker or engraving would be so much better, oh well, you sold me on this video, time to hunt this model, like you said it’s an amazing beater, so nice I might have to buy 2
Same here, it was 50-60 usd last year (roughly 10 usd lower than G-Shock G-7900 sold here). So it was not a great choice at that moment since it was too overpriced. It has dropped to much more reasonable prize now (20-25 usd each, even for the longer strap version). Maybe it's a great time to get one now.
Hi I own the GWG1000 1a3 mudmaster it’s the army green strap, i seriously love the look of this watch it’s a great everyday wear or a fantastic gym watch it looks so clear and readable. What would you rate this watch out of 10 pls Many thanks
@@degenerateWA that’s good enough for me to go ahead and purchase, I love the negative display and it is super clear looking ! That is very rare with a negative display.. thanks for your help it’s much appreciated 😊
I think yes definitely. If they can make the case and band a little bit more robust like a Timex Expedition then it would be an easy win. Both companies make great budget digitals though so either way you're going to get a decent watch.
Can you measure the bandwidth please? Is the case more grey than black? Casio advertised the positive display AE1500 with a black case and the negative display AE1500 with a grey case. But I cant see theres a difference on pictures.
Wow! Size of digits does matter! 5600 is ridiculous in comparison .... 1500 is enough for me... you don't need radio accuracy, it's everywhere on internet, you don't need 1 cm squared micro solar panel and you don't need 200 m underwater ...100 m is just enough for swimming....
1. Go to the 'Alarm' mode 2. Press the lower right button and scroll past the 5 alarms until you get to ":00" displayed on the screen. This is your hourly chime setting. 3. Press the upper left button to turn it on/off. A little bell indication will tell you if it's on or off.
Can't remember exactly. I just searched for digital calipers on Amazon and it was the first thing that popped up. It was like $9 if I remember correctly
It would be tough. The lug width is not designed for aftermarket parts so you would most likely need to modify the watch in some way to get it to work.
@@degenerateWA thanks for the answer, today i purchase the watch here in amazon mexico for 25 usd, i dont think twice looks so good. Will arrive in 2 months but its fine.
Not sure. It was pretty easy for me. I bought one directly from the Casio website and another from Amazon. I am in the US though, not sure if it's more difficult in Europe or Asia.
