I'm about five years late adding to the comments, I just bought and received the Walkabout today 9/08/2020. If you decide to add a rubber tip on the end, the correct diameter is 7/8 round, one inch will fit okay but 7/8 inch fits tighter with no issues at all putting it on. I'm not sure if back in 2015 when you posted the review maybe the ends were bigger then. Nice review and presentation, thank you Cinema Warrior for sharing it with all of us.
Thanks for the review. I've found mine to be really a two handed item for swinging, it's just a bit too heavy to work with one hand. I also think that the knob is a bit too large for my hand to use as a walking aid so I hold it below the knob and it therefore the end doesn't touch the ground negating any argument (excuse to police) that I use it as a walking aid as it is obvious I am carrying it as a cudgel, and police where I live don't like the idea of you having anything to protect yourself with.
Hello. If you want to really learn how to use that cane, I recommend you get a dvd from YMAA called Chinese Saber Basic Training & use that because of the full swings of the Saber work better with the heaviness of that cane & Master Yang's DVDs are not expensive & are 2 hrs long. The more expensive "STUN,STAGGER & STOP" dvd from Cold Steel is also very good but teaches more from an application side of things {when he does this & you do that}, while the YMAA teaches more from an Exercise Perspective, which is what you want for Body Conditioning & Footwork. I would recommend the {Vigny} La Canne approach found in Paladin Press but that works more for the lighter "City & Slim Sticks" from Cold Steel & does teach with the same concept as the Cold Steel dvd. Take Care Now.
Hello. Have a question. I've bought the Walkabout stick and noticed that there is a line through all the stick. So it is made of 2 parts? Is your the same or I've got some sort of replica ?
Great video man! I have a Walkabout on the way. Are you sure its a 1 1/8 cane tip? The specs say the shaft is 1 inch at the bottom. (that's what she said!)
Well I can tell you 1 inch will not fit, you can try but be ready to struggle with it. I would suggest taking the stick with you to where ever you buy the tips and trying before you buy them just to make sure.
+ZombieOrchestra thank you ! like I mentioned earlier, take your cane with you when you buy those tips. They should be good about allowing you to try them out.
+James Miller Just checked them out on CS's website. Truth be told, I'm not feeling that short shillelagh as it would most likely be considered a club under Texas State law and I prefer something that can pass as a cane or hiking staff. However, I do like that Blackthorn staff as well as the Axe Head Cane. I plan on buying these along with a few different trainers for my next vids, just gotta wait for them to become available on CS's website.
I've the Brooklyn Crusher. Leaving the city of Cincinnati for the deserts of Arizona. Not going to carry a bat around so I'm stuck deciding between Sjambok, Bo Training Staff, Dragon Walking Stick or African Walking Stick. What would you recommend? I'll be walking around schools and hospitals a lot so I don't want to look dangerous.
Cursive Dragon I'd suggest any of of their canes or staffs. You should be good since they can't make you get rid of something that aids ur mobility. Plus I hear AZ Has more lax laws involving swords so you might even be able to carry one of those if you choose (they're a no go here in TX at the moment) It just depends on what goes with ur surroundings and what ur comfortable with.
