James: I have been using the same No. 2 blade for almost a year. The tip is still on it so it is still in use. I hone the blade every time I use it on my strop with white compound. A few passes keeps the 'disposable' blade sharp. Also, shown nowhere on the packaging, Eric has said on some of his videos that you can take off the nut and clutch, add a length of brass wire or solid steel rod inside the handle and then reassemble the knife holder. He designed it so you can add more weight to the handle if preferred. He has spent years perfecting this design. I bought one as soon as they went on sale. Also, the standard clear plastic blade protector for other No. 2 handles works perfectly with this brass knife. I like covering the blade. Protects both of us.

Not at all, SDI is definitely a wonderful option at that entry price range! In fact, my SDI knife is often the first one I grab since I store all my other more expensive knives in a drawer, while the SDI knife is just laying around on the work bench... Makes no sense :'D
