The long-awaited Fujifilm X100VI has arrived and we were lucky enough to take it to Marrakech to test its long list of new features. This camera is a street and travel photographer's dream.
Compatible with all X100V accessories, the X100VI features a gigantic 40MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor, X-Processor 5 and a new low base ISO of 125. This model takes what the world of photography loved about its predecessor and elevates it to the next level. In addition, this iteration is equipped with 6-stop IBIS, AI subject detection and the latest AF algorithm and offers 6.2K30P and 4K60P video recording.

An excellent presentation from you guys in a wonderful location, although surprised you didn’t mention the optional weather-proofing accessory for the lens in all that rain. But loved it. More from you two please.

Great point, Jonny did allude to it around 3:47 but didn't say outright that the filter adaptor is the accessory needed to bring the entire camera and lens up to the same level of weather sealing. Thanks for the feedback, we'll keep it in mind for our next review.

I think only those marked captured on X100VI were captured by the fujifilm. And going by the description box below the video they used a Sony A7S III for the rest of the videos.

That's interesting what you said about punching into different crops. Is that a digital zoom visible in the EVF or just a frame guide in the OVF ?

Great question the digital zoom is visible in the EVF and that is how Jonny was using it most of the time. We tested it with OVF and the frame guides do change as well so you can see your framing with both viewfinder options.

Great video from the wex team , I have had 3 x100f never got the v , still keep returning to my xt2 which still produces my favourite colours, uummmm got me thinking though this one , I wonder , I just wonder will I ?😉

Thanx for the review, but is it RU-vid compression or are the pictures not that sharp? I am worried about the lens not handling the 40mp very well. I see this in more reviews.

There is no way you can see the resolving power of the lens, diminished or otherwise, even full screen in a YT clip. Even the old sensor was multiple times the resolution of your screen. It resolves just fine and has much better punch in (check the ZY Cheng review).

In person they are much sharper - putting photos in a video always compresses slightly. It's 40MP so should be plenty.

Thank you, from 10:37 we show footage shot on the X100VI this was shot by Luke our filmmaker who popped in front of the camera to talk through his experience using the camera for video. He was using Fujifilm's f-log and graded the video in the edit.

JPG is 8 bit, HEIF is 10 bit and RAW is 16 bit. HEIF can store more color information than JPG while still being a small file.

Windows isn't playing nice with HEIF yet. Images are limited in resolution. HEIF licensing is apparently complicated. HEIF isn't used in web browsers either. For distributing photos I wouldnt use it. For Mac/iPhone only, it's great, offering 10bit photos (over 8bit JPG) 2x better compression algorithm for smaller but better files. Images look great on Apple screens. I wish Fuji included a different modern 10bit format which is also used in browsers, but doesn't suffer from licensing problems. I want to use HEIF over JPG, but I absolutely don't.

Great question and a couple of folks gave a good replies already as to why HEIF would be useful but acknowledging that it is is not always supported on all platforms. For that reason we used JPEG and RAW for our tests but can see a future where HEIF is more popular as compatibility improves with photographer's workflows across all devices.

How long can you record 4k video before overheating plz?

We didn't experience any over heating - shooting for around 15 mins a time for a few hours if that helps

We feel you! It's great if you love a 35mm but can stop you getting those wides. That's why we quite like the X-T4 and 5 :)

5:52 Uh, no, even if you shoot normally, water will drip down the lens barrel and enter the lens. Water has surface tension and will travel AROUND the front of the barrel. Please use the filter as I instructed to seal the camera properly.

Just to clarify having spoken to your company today the order i placed on release day will likely not be available for at least 27 days. So i would say despite what was said in the video , you do not have stock.

They're Roman numerals. V = five, VI = six.

Our shooting kit is in the video description we only had one X100VI so we couldn't shoot the whole video on that camera. From 10:37 we show footage shot on the X100VI this was shot by Luke our filmmaker who popped in front of the camera to talk through his experience using the camera for video.

Kudos to your filmmaker here as there are some truly lovely shots, but it does seem very odd (and quite confusing) that the majority of this video is b-roll footage from another camera entirely. Appreciate you only had one to test, but there are /a lot/ of shots which don’t show the Fuji, and yet are still shot on a different camera. Saying that, you’ve succeeded in making me want an A7S instead - it (and a great colour grade) definitely outshined the Fuji in this video 😅

We struggled a little - but you can upgrade to the X-T4 or 5 and get an interchangeable lens for not much more if that helps - same benefits of the Fujifilm system.

Seems that all cameras and accessories sold by Wex are 'brilliant', 'exceptional' and 'outshines' everything - the overviews are some of the most insipid, sickly and sugar coated to the extreme tomes ever written. Not to be trusted (or read).

Well, they are in the camera-selling business, gotta move the inventory. The Fuji vids, mostly silly and preachy (though the Sam Abel promo was touching) and the camera stores, they are going to softball any criticisms, after all they have to stay in the good graces of the camera makers. No, the reviews that really count are those from the photographers (Pro and Amateur) out in the field, day in and out.
