Hi, Jeff! We were visiting friends in Utah and made three recipes from your "orange cover" book. I was so inspired that I BOUGHT IT!! We also bought a new Instant Pot Duo Plus, which came today! I'm noting that I think we have an even newer version of the Duo Plus as this one has a grey lid; not black. Either way, I'm looking forward to making our first meal...tomorrow!! So I subscribed to keep in touch!! BTW, I noticed that the new version we got also has sous vide functionality. How cool is that? I'll be looking for one of your recipes featuring that capability!
@@PressureLuck Hey there, Jeff! Made our first meal today! We made the Bourbon Chicken and it was a FREAKING HIT!! We had another couple over and everyone was blown away! Only problem: I should have made more!! Thanks so much for an OUTSTANDING cookbook!! ~TW
@@terrywall4591 this is fantastic! So glad you tried the bourbon chicken and, even better, enjoyed it! Here’s to many more cooking journeys ahead of you!
Jeffrey, thanks for the update on the new model. I am intrigued by the sous vide function. Any plans for recipes using this function? It would be appreciated.
You can use any sous vide recipe with any sous vide device. Instant Pot site and app may have some by now. All sv devices just use hot water to cook food in a bag. So you could pick a recipe from Anova or whatever. Food must stay underwater, can't touch other pieces, can't rest on the bottom, because you need water on all sides of it to cook it. Use hot water in the IP for sous vide because it takes too long to heat up cold.
I am a newbie with instant pot , what about the steam bottom ? The new one does not have one ? 🤔how do I steam veggies ? I was waiting to see if you were going to mentioned , but you did not , maybe you can help me with that thank you
I just got this instant pot (the updated new one). It's my first instant pot! I know, I know, I'm late on the bandwagon. But better late than never! I love your videos, this helped me a lot! Thank you!!! :)
thank you so much.... very helpful vid. NO STEAM BUTTON??? so i guess we just do "normal pressure" type stuff and set it on vent? anyone understand why they removed the steam button and what you do w/o it?
Don't own Duo Plus but try p.c. setting at low pressure and sliding open the vent release AFTER you lock the lid. More water required obviously. Must do this on my Duo Evo Plus even though it has a steam button. Steam means no pressure so can't imagine how any of the models which trip the steam release shut when lid is locked do not require manual opening of the steam release to steam without pressure. Best to experiment with broccoli because color and texture make the results very easy to judge. Odd that expert Jeff has not addressed this.
I love the Duo Evo Plus (especially the silicon handles) and wanted to add the air fryer lid. Except you can't. When I contacted the company for advice about this or purchasing a 6 qt with Duo Evo Plus capabilities that could use an air fryer lid, the answer was surprising: The representative said the Duo Evo Plus is being discontinued. The Duo Crisp does not have all the functions of the Duo Evo Plus. The have just released the Pro Crisp & Air Fryer which does have all the Evo Plus functions plus Air Fryer, but it only comes in the 8 qt size. The rep did not know if it will be manufactured in the 6 qt size.
I actually like spinning the liner pot. It helps me stir the ingredients better and makes it a little easier to push stuff on the liner wall back into the pot. I guess I'm used to that now!
I agree - for saute/stir fry "spinning" makes it easier; lot of stove top woks are extra easy turning and for years I had an electric one that was designed to manipulate with one hand while stirring with the other. I wonder why they didn't design it to lock/spin. Because the pot is deep, you're right, mixing ingredients was easier before. Oh well.
I just got one of these new 3.0 pots. Is the "steam" function on the older model anything but a preset time? I've seen some recipees using the steam function but this pot doesn't have that button.
I have a very early model, an impulse buy that turned into a go-to godsend! The sealing ring does absorb flavors, so a spare will be very useful when I upgrade. 🙂
I half like the rubber nubs that keep the stainless pot stationary, BUT, my DuoPlus definitely has hot spots, very noticeable on prolonged sauté functions. If that inner pot doesn't move, you get a bad burn, which is a pain to clean, and ain't great for flavor. That is probably my biggest IP complaint. We do a lot of sous vide-ing. I assume the pot lets you set temperature AND time? Again, until you've done sous vide, you haven't cooked properly! I wouldn't do the browning with the saute function, however. I really like the Sterilize button. It isn't "necessary", but it's great to have if you are putting up jams or jellies, which I now do, thank you Mr. Instant Pot! All and all, excellent video, again, thank you!
Next gen models like Pro have a clad disc flat bottom which evens out the heat. Also allows me to saute on the stove which keeps the I.P. clean and prolongs the life of its heater. Built in insulated pot handles make hot transfer with bare hands a breeze. Would not want the extra step of having to push the inner pot down on Duo. S.V. is better on next gen Pro but a circulator is still required for proper S.V. If canning consider 15 p.s.i. capable Pro Plus or Max.
Looks like outside of sous vide, the enhancements make it more intuitive so as to flatten the learning curve for newbies. That's fine, but the better bargain is to get the old one at half price from someone wanting to update their Instant Pot. There's not much of a learning curve on the old one, thanks to Jeff's videos.
All sous vide devices do the same thing. Use a sous vide recipe from any source or device because you're just using the water to cook the food. Keep the food submerged in water, and it can't touch the bottom, or the other food packets because each piece has to be fully surrounded by water. Start with hot water, too. Cold takes forever to heat up. I ran a sous vide water test first, just water in there, to see how accurate my IP is, and a learned to set mine 1F degree lower so that temperature doesn't overshoot. I use pressure lid with vent open . I think the IP site and app have sous vide recipes now. It's easy. But if you're mostly going to cook meats very rare, you may want to get an immersion circulator or other sous vide device for more precise temperature control .
What does BANJO say about it?? LOL I have an Instant Pot S/V and I do love it but I think I may upgrade to this new one for the convenience of the self sealing/venting. For the price now on Amazon Prime 55 dollars is worth it because if you go to Target to buy a replacement stainless steel 6 quart insert costs $35. 00 anyway!
Thanks for the detailed demo of the new Duo Plus! I purchased my first Instant Pot (I had a pressure cooker, but it was a different brand) during Amazon Days and got a great deal. I also decided to move up to an 8qt from a 6qt. I love the safety of the new pressure release area on the lid. That is much different than on my older 6qt pressure cooker. All in all, I know I will love this 8qt Instant Pot Duo Plus and now, thanks to you, I'll know how to use it! 💜💜💜
Fabulous vid, Jefferey, VERY helpful! A newbie to IP’s, I was on the fence about what Instant Pot to buy, then decided I wanted the sous vide feature, which narrowed it down. This video confirmed the Duo Plus is the one! After watching many Intant Pot recipe vids, the constant checking of the seal/release button seemed like a pain, so was glad when you showed that with this updated model that checking the release valve before each start is now a thing of the past. Well, off to Target to get get my Duo Plus! Your cookbooks are on my list too!
The difference between models has always confused me. I bought my first pot- a 6qt Viva on a pre-black Friday sale and I see I got the 2nd ring, a release button that looks like the new one, minus the thumb switch. I also got the Sious Vide button. I think I got lucky for around $50
I got the same Viva deal 2020. Was also confused so ordered the Max, Duo Evo Plus, Nova and a a Best Buy brand. Quickly found the nex gen models like Duo Evo now the Pro to be a game changer easily worth $30 more. Pro is on sale today for $80.
I just purchased the 6 qt upgraded one from your Amazon link. I'm really excited to get this one to just keep on my kitchen counter. I purchased the Duo Nova 10 qt in Oct 2020 for an Amazon Deal of the Day for $99! I love it and use it to make bone broth and large quantities of rice and beans to freeze dry. But, for everyday cooking, it's just too big! Thanks for the great video! Ordered your cookbook too...looking forward to trying out some of your delicious recipes! Thank you for a great video. So glad I discovered your channel today!
Mine seems to be a combo. It has the sous vide lower right, pressure cook upper left but still has meat/stew and steam. the controls are pressure lever, keep warm,-, +, Delay Start and cancel
GREAT video! I now GOT the new upgraded one shown here. THANKS! My 1st one was the duo Plus 9-in-1 which I LOVED. Then I bought the new one with the handles that I have been using and DISLIKE it. The inner pot does NOT have the nice glossy finish which cleans and shines. And I detest the turn knob! HERE is what those levels are on the old one: Less - Cook at low heat. Reach 190 °F only. Normal - Cook medium heat. Similar to the "Low" setting on the slow cooker. Reach 195-205 °F More - Cook at high heat, similar to the "High" setting on the slow cooker. Reach 200-210 °F.
We had this challenge also. I believe if you hit temperature down. It will go to medium, and show 8 hours. We can then hit start. We make yogurt by adding/mixing to TBSP of live yogurt to 64 oz Fairlife milk. The manual that came with it was not clear on this. We just stumbled upon it. I hope that helps.
I swear these food cooking product companies act like Apple iphone every year we have to get the new one. Ninja and instapot are constantly trying to up the ante even the old school crockpot just like Samsung Galaxy and Apple Iphone when in all honesty most people never use all the functions they come with meanwhile i still buy the new products even when it's maybe 2 or 3 different functions Lol
Really loved the part where I could control it via Bluetooth and via Windows 11. Be interesting to see if the "PRO" model has WIFI... No none of them do. Hmm.
Good presentation. I have a pressure cooker and recently bought a 3 quart Instant Pot. The Instant Pot is not, in my opinion, intuitive. Just by watching your video, the new Instant Pot Duo Plus seems much more intuitive to me.
Just a reminder to NOT use pre-shredded cheese. The anti-caking starch they put on it makes the cheese not melt properly. I just buy the cheddar bricks and use a crank shredder. A bonus is they’re usually sold at the exact size he suggests for his recipe.
You're a smart cook! Flavor seems better with block cheese too and I think it lasts longer, freezes well and is more easily prepped for recipes. Although I don't know what they do to cheese these days but it doesn't seem to taste like it used to and texture changes make me wonder. And "anti-caking starch" for grated cheese? Probably not as bad as what they do to shaker can Parmesan Cheese but still. (slight digression :)
I just my got my new instant duo plus pot today and found your review video. For some reason when I put the metal pot inside it still spins very easily like the older model. I see the four little rubber type pads inside but apparently my pot isn't the same diameter as yours is. I've pushed it down, turned it a little hoping it would lock in place but it still spins. Any ideas as to why mine won't stay in place? Thank you for the great review and the Mac & Cheese recipe.
Do this Duo model of course I know this is an older video but I was still thinking about the. Duo instant pot do it has a condensation drip cup? because I saw one in the outlet store end it had one of those drip condensation cup in the cup the box said it had but it was missing so I left it, The gentleman says I’ll look for the cup. If you still want it you can come back and purchase it hasn’t been used , you know how Best Buy when boxes been open and a piece is missing they sell it to the outlet stores, I mean it’s has not been used. It’s still new everything and on the box it describes everything that comes with the instant pot , is just missing that drip cup, so I left it in the store. 🏬 lol 😂 condensation is important at least with that model. Is that the model that you have? and do the older model does it has a place to set the condensation cup ?
The vent button is kind of like the Ultra, but what the Ultra does that this doesn't is let you depress the button gradually, which I like to do when doing QR because the full QR scares the cats. Yes, it means I'm holding the button half down for up to 10 minutes until the steam isn't so fierce, but hey, anything for the furkids.
I actually like the manual steam release best because it's simple and has no parts to break, and is the easiest style to do a controlled release with. I can remember to close the release valve myself.
Hi Jeffrey, I just watched your Duo Evo Plus review from 2019. Are you not using that model anymore? I see this video above is from 2021 about the UPGRADED Duo Plus model . You say you use the original Duo Plus 95% of the time. My question is, was this model put out after the Duo Evo Plus? Just wondering why you aren't using that one anymore (it's actually the one I bought in 2020 based on your rec). I also see there is a Pro and a Pro Plus model, as well. Have you reviewed these? Thanks : )
Thanks for this video! I got an Instant Pot recently, but I bought mine at Target. They were having a big sale as it was a special combo (came with the standard trivet and a silicone muffin thing). Unfortunately, I couldn't find an unboxing video for my specific set. It's disorienting watching people cook with their Instant Pots when cooking is something you have no skill in and your pot doesn't look like theirs. This video made it very easy and now I feel better about using my Instant Pot! Thanks again. 😊

I love my new 8 qt Pro Crisp. It differs in a few ways: inner pot has heat proof handles that also prevent spinning, no + - buttons because it has a dial you turn & I like this better, and you get the air fryer lid plus the new inner basket/trivet thingy (which I love). It also has the Sous Vide function, which is also useful for making yogurt.
Good afternoon, from Madera California. I've been waiting for a recipe for pinto beans and for some reason I am not finding it . I have the duo nova 3 qt instant pot. I'm by myself and want to make sure I don't mess up the food. I don't like throwing out food. Can you please help me? Also, I've been waiting for more recipes from you. Hope to see some more. Hope you're doing well and your family. All the way from Madera California. Catalina Amaya
Jeff. love the video's man. My model Duo Plus / 6 Quart does not have a steam function - Like I need to steam tamales for 1 hr or so, but I have no steam function in my model. ..
Hi please anyone tell me how to steam vegetables for new instant pot duo plus 9-in-1 .because steam mode system Not in the newly arrived instant pot duo plus 9in1. Please I need tell me how to cook steam mode?
l just bought the duo plus and l have tried to do steam puddings, both failures, the recipes call for steaming under pressure for 30 minutes and pressure cooking for 30 minutes, mine does not have the steam function do any of the other buttons eg rice cake or egg duplicate the steam setting
I had trouble setting my new duo plus to 0 minutes. I have recipes that use that for vegetables so they don’t get mushy. Is there a way to do that? I go to 0 and it cycles to 8 minutes if anyone can help thanks.
I have just got my new duo plus but i realise it does not have steam which i need to cook a Christmas pudding for 30 mins before pressure cooking. Can you tell me what setting i need to steam please. and do i need to put in more water.
Can you please tell how to bring boil option up for yoghurt? I am trying to press the yoghurt button twice /thrice but boil option is not showing up. Thanks
I have never used one of these before. Was going to order the duo plus today but there is no meat/stew button. Does that matter? Which button do I press for meats ?
How do you use the steam function in the upgraded duo plus? There's no steam button on the upgraded duo plus. I steam seafood and vegetables a lot. Steam function is a must have for me!
Thats what I have a problem with my upgraded one. When I try to find a recipe on RU-vid, they have the other functions while I have the other one. It sucks.. I hope someone can help us with this problem.
I was just trying to use it and it started cooking and it let out a scream and scared me and my dog to death i ran in and unplugged it I thought i was under attack
Hi, great video! Thanks for doing all these wonderful videos. I have a question about the steam function. I have the older Duo Plus and now I just bought the Upgraded Duo Plus, there is no longer a steam button. How do I pressure steam in the Upgraded Duo Plus that doesn't have the steam button? Thanks in advance for any help.
@@jet4266 Steam no pressure function is important for delicate foods. Even broccoli comes out better. I'd read the manual. Possible as simple as just opening the steam release after closing the lid. Remember to add extra water. If no way to set to steam no pressure then go for a diff model .
There are about 3 versions of 6 qt Duo Plus. IP put sous vide on the 6qt in Fall 2019 and didn't update the 3 and 8 qt at that time. This lid is only on the very newest ones. The 2019 and stainless 2020 versions have the Duo Nova lid. The original Duo Plus has the original Duo lid.
I just bought a “new” Instapot duo plus 8 quart, brand new, for 20.00 on Facebook. The kind lady said it just wasn’t her thing. Now, I was looking for a 3 quart not an 8 quart but oh the things I can do. Ive Bern using manual and instapots for ever and I absolutely love the versatility of the instapot. So, I came to your channel just to get familiar with this new version and even for me your video was super helpful. Thank you!
I `just bought the brand new duo crisp pro. It is all black and gorgeous. Your recipes are still the best and thank you for including the extra instructions for the 8 qt like in the cacciatore recipe
Strangely, my updated model has the inside knobs but the liner pot is not touching them, it thinks they are just too low on the inside and the knobs are aligned on the lower curve of the liner, so its turns as the old model. Well
