Thank you for such an honest and well-balanced review - that's a rare thing to find on RU-vid reviews!

I think my RP8s are one of the few things I have NEVER regretting spending money on. The price/quality/durability overall just isn't beat by anybody else.

I would love to have a pair of these for referencing my tracks after mixing but for the creation process of music you would want something that's more flat sounding like the HS8's or The Eris E8 if you can get a great sounding mix on flat monitors then your music will translate nicely everywhere else

I did listen to some of these when looking for a set of monitors and this review is bang on, the bass was very woolly and muddy and overdone, at least to my ears. The M Audio BX8 D2 is a much cleaner sound particularly in the bass and when sat on some quality stands they're superb speakers, I'm very happy with mine.
@johncitizen3361
@johncitizen3361 7 лет назад
I picked up a pair of the previous gen 2 Rokit 8's pretty much new and unused for a very low price and they are fine for DJ practise and the occasional mix, and yes they go plenty loud if you want. Just beware the 8's are heavy. I'm using Ultimate Support Jam Stands MS-70 Monitor Stands so they are at ear level when standing.Those stands are capable of holding the monitors quite safely while still being affordable (check the build quality of knock offs) but I wouldn't trust them around kids or pets which could knock them over.

Just look at the bi amp specifications, theres a ton more power going to the woofers than to the tweeters making KRK's noticably bass heavy. With these G3's it is nice that they added low frequency control, now you can just turn that knob to -2db and keep the high frequency knob to 0 or +1db and even things out. For this price range I think these are the best. Shelling out the extra couple hundred dollars to get something like the Yamaha HS8's or even the HS7's doesnt seem very worth it at all.

Which one from the KRK entry level Rokit range would you recommend as an improvement over my current Yamaha HS50M, for mixing from a close distance at low volumes. Thanks.
@draynged7869

Most people who say they are muddy or unbalanced have never heard them or owned them only read or saw reviews on them, and the test on the reviews are done with frequency meters and the front port and loud bass makes them seem (muddy)
@johnmorris2170
@johnmorris2170 7 лет назад
Vaping Fanatic Most likely it is their mix that is muddy and the KRK are just showing them what their mix sounds like. None of my mixes sound muddy on the KRK Rocket series. Most newbie mixers put way too much low bass in the mix and then blame the monitor for their crappy over bassy mix. Problem: A smaller monitor like the KRK Rocket 5 produce no low bass at all (20-80hz) at least not in an untreated room. Even the Rocket 8's are very room dependant. All the Beatles stuff was mixed on the infamous Altecs 540A. They had a frequency response of 100 - 12 000hz. And let all those great Beatle mixes were made on them.

John Morris, i've seen you a lot in KRK reviews. Does KRK really do the job in the bedroom? And me as a Malaysian, KRK is expensive considering the exchange rate, and i really wanna buy something thats right and satisfying. Im very new in the monitor world, but my taste are high haha, is the KRK Rokit 6 good? and are these studio monitors can be used in house party?
@alifadzlan8676
@alifadzlan8676 6 лет назад
What about the less-flat response? Is it really not flat? i understand this is good for dj, but is it good for production as well? considering u need flatty sound while mixing.
@xenoblack3
@xenoblack3 5 лет назад
They get the job done. Hearing is subjective, and we are all listening in rooms of different sizes and shapes so it is unlikely any speaker will sound the same to all of us. These are pretty decent entry level monitors and good enough for producing. You probably won't find any audio engineers mastering with these, but in this price range that isn't the target audience.

@@alifadzlan8676 I have them in my lounge and for DJ use they are evil.. They can take a pounding with no distortion.. I am only using one as 2 are tooo loud :) Trust me my whole house vibrates with the bass of these.. Im very happy with them

Hey! I'm looking forward to buy a KRK Rokit 8 'cause many people say it has a great definition working with low frequencies. The problem is my room isn't that big and friends adviced me not to purchase this one because the problem with low definition is more related to the room itself. I'm also planning to treat my room acoustically as soon as I can. Greatings from Brazil

Mojaxx, I am getting ready to make my first DJ equipment purchase in 2 days, so far I have picked the Traktor Z2 mixer, 2x Audio Technica AT LP1240's and Rokit gen3 8's, and Shure M44-7 needles and a couple of different Ortofons as well, my questions are can I add my own vinyl while using Traktor, to see the BPM and use them for a session of Timecoded songs and real vinyl, and is the mixer I picked good for Drum and Bass on it's own? My other option was the Pioneer DJM 750 but I was unsure how good the x-fader was for scratching or if it maps or works with Serato DJ, and the other was grabbing a Behringer DDM4000 and swapping the x-fader with a inno-fader mini pnp-p, but I don't know if that works with Serato either, I looked it all up online and can't find answers everything is 8 years old! Thanks ahead of time for any feedback I get! If all else fails I will stick to Traktor but I really want Serato Dj and can't afford both nor want both, and want a mixer good for drum and bass and turntablism/hip-hop!

I had a pair. they were great. I prefer my bx8a m audio over them though. more bass and sound more well rounded, until you reach high volumes then the krks win, but if your making beats you should be around 90db anyways
@VoyageOne1

@johnmorris2170
@johnmorris2170 7 лет назад
JMC JOSE That is very old school. Most professionals don't mix loud anymore. More like 70 db tops. You will get a much better mix if you substantially lower your mixing level. But of course making beats is a different matter.
@draynged7869

What I was really trying to get at is that I want Serato more than Traktor but the Traktor Kontrol Z2 has awesome reviews, but if I am not running Traktor and just using my DnB vinyls it seems it loses features, plus like I said I really like the Pioneer DJM 750 cause of the built in BPM and all the crazy effects, but I need it to scratch good I mean sharp cuts and for it to map with Serato and the Behringer was a last ditch effort for a decent setup and to save money, but was a good idea imo.
@Mojaxx
@Mojaxx 7 лет назад
Vaping Fanatic Leave Traktor running when you're using real vinyl, but put the Traktor decks into thru mode. Then you can use the FX still. You won't get a BPM readout but I'd see that as a good thing when practicing anyway.
@draynged7869
@draynged7869 7 лет назад
Thanks love your reviews and I will stick with Traktor mixer cause it's a good price and from what you said sounds awesome, I just wanted to make sure I got what is best for what I want to do. That and I really like the Pioneer DJM 750 and most of all Serato!.....lol thanks a ton for the response

@stevenortiz7264
@stevenortiz7264 7 лет назад
Do you have any alternative suggestions?
@dsquareddan
@dsquareddan 7 лет назад
no, it means they just have a cult following and there are many many better alternatives if you wish to get good true sound from studio monitors. Also, you shouldn't be using studio monitors for DJ speakers. Get some Loudspeakers like PK Sound Klarity 8's, or QSC. Studio Monitors are meant to reproduce as accurate a sound as possible up to ~85db of volume (the KRK Rokit series isn't that true, their VXT line is better, but much more pricey). For DJ monitors or speakers for house parties, generally you'll probably be wanting to crank the sound up beyond that level and you get diminishing returns with studio monitors
@dsquareddan
@dsquareddan 7 лет назад
I mean, there are literally so many. with studio monitors you generally get what you pay for. and KRK are not the worst, but no where near the greatest. I love Adam's AX series, but they are much more pricey. Yamaha HS lineup is a more affordable studio monitor with a much truer sound than KRK's for studio music production. If you got money to blow, Barefoot's or Event Opal or Genelec. I say KRK's are like Beats by Dre because so many people just buy them because they see other people have them, not because they sound good (they're alright). almost every bedroom DJ has a pair hooked up to their equipment. instead of buying small loudspeakers which are more suited for that, they bought STUDIO monitors because they saw someone else had a pair hooked up to their DJ gear and thought the yellow cones looked rad.

I think u will get the best of both worlds with these speakers, that I've already purchased so call me biased, but I did my homework... I am not a producer , but I listen to a lot of production music, complex , layered , crisp and bassy eg. Himuro Yoshitero. Now I got a nice aised room, and these are going to fill it perfectly, what with the added controls on the back.. So these are the perfect answer to an avid listener of complex beautifully melodic electronic music , who wants to experience what the maker is hearing , to inhabit in that enviroment, and to also not be overly nerdy and disappointed by the lack of Bass Oomph that a more flatter although truer sound they experienced whilst making their tunes... Cos man I don't need to see an audiodontist , lol☺ .. didn't you hear him? "Absolutely does the business" You'll get the crisp , you get a great bass, and are far superior to Hi-Fi.

These are NOT used by producers for music production. These are used for Home dj speakers and they are awesome!!! I don't know any of my dj friends that use these for production, we all use them for home dj studio use. They don't take up any space like a full size speaker and they still rattle the house and give you the thump you want when your jamming at home. Most of the IKEA hacks for dj booths are great for these speakers. Best bang for your buck for home dj speakers. IMO

Before buying any Rokit product, try to find out if corrosive adhesive is still being applied to the PCBs as this will ensure a limited life span. See here, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dftkoD7LG0A.html

They don't have a flat response and therefore don't make the best monitors for studio use. They are also not room speakers because they have a small sweet spot and will produce standing waves outside the sweet spot. They are big fat desk speakers with a decent stereo image and a low cost for what they are. I picked the G2s up for £400 about 4 years ago for use as desk speakers at home. I don't produce music, I just listen to a lot of cd quality and hi res audio while sat at my computer. For this purpose it was the best £400 I've ever spent because they produce a very open and pleasing sound for the types of music I like to listen to (electronic and classic rock). They need to be used on floor stands via a balanced connection (decent usb dac mandatory). If you prefer electronic music and want meaty desk speakers (on floor stands) to sit in front of all day long you can't go wrong with the rp8s.

KRK make real shitty monitors in comparison with such cool brands as Adam or Neumann for example. Most overrated ever.
@ExSkyCyclePilot
@ExSkyCyclePilot 5 лет назад
Avoid all KRK speakers. They have a very poorly implemented auto-standby "feature". Once the speakers go into standby, it takes a lot of signal to wake them up, and even then, it takes several seconds for them to turn back on. In addition, Gibson, who owns KRK, knows of a fix, but won't share it with anyone because they care more about some imagined liability than customer service. Avoid KRK, and all other Gibson represented brands. They don't deserve your business.

Whahaha, They are the Best Studio Monitors You can Buy'? You clearly have no knowledge of studio monitors (respectfully meant). Quick note for dummies. Here you compare a Fiat Panda with a Ferrari or Bentley you fool! Same with studio monitors far as sound quality, naturally for studio use depending on near fields or booming still crystal clear sounding studio sound quality. But you may be right, who cares about sound quality today? But a quick hint when discussing 'THE BEST' studio monitors by (as I emphasize for Pro Musicians) and discussing studio sessions by artist from U2 to M.Jackson or The Stones. Near field by far still Yamaha NS10. Meyer Sound HD1 and for full range studio speakers creating a clear representative 'BOOM' (with Sub) so your music quality remains the same after a MIX still (my best selection) Genelec 1031 Tri Amp series and series above. Now far as my previous statement start saving cash because Genelec's or Meyer HD 1 prices in that range vary from USD 8K and up. So KRK Rokit are for amateurs because the colorization of the sound is absurd unless your already deaf LOL!
