not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. Been streaming with my brother during the lockdown =)
If he water level is really bothering you - Turn it up, You'll find videos on how to do it but its basically stick a screwdriver in the water level sensor and turn a single screw
That's the way I look at it.... Take an older top loader that's 3.5 cu feet and takes 40 min's... But then what was 5 or 6 loads in that washer is 3 in this one.... so it basically evens out... and with the turbo wash models the times can go way down....but if you want long washes in those you can still get them. I trust Eugene if he says he likes LG and even takes them apart and looks at everything... I trust his advice. But for safety I'd still plug any modern washer into a surge protector
We bought your previous favorite. It cost close to $1200 but is wonderful. I've followed your suggestion of never using more than 2 tablespoons of detergent and it looks like you were right. Clothes still get cleaned.
Really appreciate this video! Have been looking for washing machines as a first time buyer out of college and read many good reviews on this model. Came across your channel and this helped to make the decision.
Just moved into a new home, did my first load and was worried there wasn't enough water in the cycle. Thank you for setting my mind at ease. I found this extremely helpful.
One thing you might want to know is that the most stingy cycle with water is normal... and that's what most people use....I think that's because they base the energy guidelines on the normal cycle... You may notice other cycles use more water and the definitely use more water in the rinse than wash
Thanks for the review. I just bought this set and it will be my first front loaders so I'm glad you like it. Sucks that the cycle is so long but the one I bought (technically a wm3400cw) does have a 15 minute cycle for lightly soiled loads.
Thumbs up! A terrific overview and impressions video. Gives folks just what they need to stay ahead of their purchase decisions. Good video Eugene! And thanks for pointing out that top open cover of the washer ;)
I just got the combo version of this washer. It takes longer per load, but I can literally wash twice what my speed queen top load could wash at one time! I was also shocked how clean my huge load got, and no detergent residue showed up when I swished a clean garment in water- so it rinsed well too. I used to use 4 TB detergent per load in my top load washer… for this I use 2 TB for the huge “double” size load to get both clean and having no residue. So my detergent will last 4x as long! Impressive.
Best wishes to you and your family Eugene! It's been difficult for us all but we'll get through this. We're almost out of the woods. I still enjoy your honest reviews. Thanks for taking the time to post new videos!
Great to hear this is a good machine because we just ordered it during Lowe's 4th of July sale and it will be our first "modern" washing machine. Always owned top load with agitators, but figured this would be a good entry level front loader to try out for the price and ease of use.
You'll love it. Using cold water the wash bill in minuscule. Get yourself those "eco eggs" that don't use laundry detergent. Had them for years not and don't worry about buying detergent anymore.
@@k.kreations.g It's been pretty good! Clothes always get clean and smell fresh. We keep the washer door open to prevent mold/mildew in the rubber seals. The dryer has had one issue, which was lint buildup that required me to take it apart and vacuum out all of the lint that was causing it to overheat and shut down. Thankfully the machine is smart enough to sense the problem and give the appropriate code so you can self diagnose and fix without the need of an expensive repair call.
@@BlakeSuperior_Beats wow thank you so much, I was thinking of buying ge because of the microban but I guess all I need is too be cautious about cleaning it after washing
hey , Lorain Furniture , this washer can recirculation pump . you have to look under the machine and repair that and turn it on in any cycle and it will recirculation
I had one similar to this but my washer had the water plus option and "YES" VERY LONG CYCLES!!! Not good when you're doing 4 or 5 loads in one day, It took me forever to get done!!! Great video Eugene...
I had a family member at home in end-stage dementia, incontinent, and going through at least a set of sheets per hour. I bought the LG WT1101CW because Consumer Reports recommended it. I had eight sets of sheets for her bed, and the caregivers were always asking for more sheet sets because the washer couldn't keep up. I spent evenings after work at the corner coin laundry trying to catch up. That LG was absolutely the worst washer ever built!
Thanks so much ! I used this washer for the first time yesterday ! The only thing that alarmed me was the 15 minute final spin cycle ! Otherwise I think it will serve me well !!
I love this review, although it did not answer my question that I originally sought to find an answer for which was, how do you get rid of the moldy smell and the disgusting, grimy black sludge that’s in the basin of the plastic ring around the entrance to the washer. But, I found this to be the most accurate description of the washer that I’ve had for three years and I love that you have a ketchup test and I love that you get emotional about the fact that there isn’t enough water you rock on and have a great Fourth of July weekend.
About the "not enough water", there is a screw (with red loctite on the screwhead) at the back left (1:31)) that can be turned clockwise a little ways to adjust water level up. Caveat: it will void the warranty.
An hour and a half cycle is actually very good for a modern front loader. 1.5 hours is normal. At the moment alot of front loaders in Australia and UK are taking 2.5 to 3 hours to do a cycle! It helps save the most energy and water
Shakiralover4ever this is the issue- the average American has no interest in saving either water, power or the planet. Hence they still love their old school top load machines that use enough water to fill a swimming pool
Agree. Where we live, water is a very valuable resource and we are always finding ways to save water. I don't really mind a cycle that's over an hour because the water savings make it worth it. Americans don't realize how easy they have it.
@@spencerwilton5831 It really is amazing how so many americans can love top loaders when they consistently perform worse - they clean worse, they rinse worse, they wear out clothing, they have barely graduated past 600 rpm spin speeds... then you realize, americans don't like them for any actual sensical reason, they like them because it's obvious how wasteful and ineffective they are. Having the "freedom" to be wasteful but also stubbornly ignorant about how washers work is something encounter every single day selling these machines. I will ask a little old lady if they want "the best wash performance while being least likely to damage clothing and also reducing detergent residue with a high spin speed" they will say "Absolutely, which one is it?" (while motioning at a "new" whirlpool top loader which is so archaic it may not actually have a spin mode at all)... as soon as I tell them it's an LG front loader, they get hysterical and act like I'm their child "I will not have one of those in my house, not going to happen". I ask them why and they say "I just don't like the idea of it. It seems morally reprehensible to load your washer from the front!" or some nonsensical drivel. I'm hoping I can revise my sales pitch before I just give up on American consumers entirely.
Many modern front loaders have options of much shorter "express" cycles such as 15mins & 30 mins. The Fisher & Paykel front loader I have does an excellent "everyday" wash in just 49 minutes!!! Admittedly it has both a hot & cold water intake plus an on-board heater. The other thing people seem not to understand is "lack of water" and this is really about immersion (water-guzzling top-loaders) v.s saturation (water-miser front-loaders). As long as fabric is saturated with sudsy water it will get clean. Fabric doesn't have to swirl around in massive amount of water to get clean, in fact, more water dilutes the detergent more. Finally, the tumbling action of front loaders is a much more effective and efficient cleaning method mechanically speaking.
Thank you for saying it. These water-guzzling fetishists who start drooling when they see a top loader fill up with so much water that their well has run dry really crack me up. Water does not clean, detergent does. Water just moves the detergent through the fabric. Every *actually* developed country (and pretty much every developing country too) has moved to front loaders nearly a century ago. I would say I have no idea why americans are so stubborn about top loaders but I think I know why... using a lot of resources makes us feel like we have "freedom" - freedom to use as much electricity and water as we want, and our ability to convince ourselves that we the consumer know, at a very technical level, how washers work, and that our government shouldn't tell us how to do laundry. It's all nonsense because it's not the government, it's appliance manufacturers (or at least, the good ones... the American brands like whirlpool seem to do exactly nothing in terms of R&D for over 60 years now...) who have put in the work to study exactly how to effectively wash clothes.
I have a WM3400. Its only 3 years old, I've had to replace both water inlet valves and all 3 shock absorbers. Its easy to work on but boy are the parts light duty. $300 just for the parts. Paying a technician for these 2 repairs would have totaled the machine, was a black Friday deal for $598.
Amateur repair tech here. I'm pretty sure the motors, pumps, and dampers of all washers come from the same factories in China. You can even see this on the Maytag Commercial washer teardown, which is why I decided against it. Considered the Speed Queen but from the Lorain rebuild video, it looks like a pain to take apart and put together (3 hours+ to redo the tub seal!). The thing about this washer at least is that it is convenient to open up when these parts do fail, I'll probably look into modifying mine with more robust parts and see how it works out.
We have this same machine. Purchased it about a month ago. It makes a very loud banging noise as the tub shifts itself back and forth during the spin cycle. Light loads of about 7 or 8 towels or a mixture of clothes and towels. Doesn't seem to matter. We were thinking something has to be wrong. Called LG and they sent a "tech" out who just left a while ago. He said the machine is very temperamental and that we just need to try different loads in it till we come up with the right combination so that it doesn't get so out of balanced! Said you can have to little or to big of loads. We tried a full clothes basket load of various clothes after he left and got the same banging results!! Have you noticed yours banging at all during the spin cycle? I still think something is wrong!
Just found my repair guy!!! I am also in Cleveland and will be getting my LG 3600 tomorrow. Any problems I have in the near future I will be calling you.
Hi from Canada. Love your videos. Just purchased this machine-it's $950 here! Did you notice that the clothes feel a little wet when finished? My old Whirlpool practically dried the clothes!
On the Cons, you did not mention that the washer does not have a recirculation pump which makes a big difference in wetting down the clothes and helping with the low water level. Perhaps it would also cut down on cycle times.
My LG front load is 10 years old. Only replaced the door latch and did it myself. Washer stopped tumbling and that was the issue. I had a heads up because for about a year I had to give the door an extra nudge shut. My cycles are average 55 minutes. There are pre wash and extra rinse. which I sometimes use with a short wash cycle. Hand wash is excellent, tumbles one way then has a long pause, then reverses. This mostly soaks the clothing and not tumbles it. It has a 22 pound wash capacity and can wash all my quilts.LG's are also direct drive with no belts and a lifetime warranty on the stainless steel drum. I love my machine.
Here in Mauritius A smaller machine from lg will cost the same. I just checked the currency and thats a pretty good deal for a machine this big from lg .
Can you do a video about laundry detergent? Pods vs powder vs liquid? Which one is best for a top loader and which one is best for a front loader? Thanks! (:
As a White Goods Engineer who works on washing machines daily my advice to you would be... Avoid the pods full stop, use the liquid detergents for hard water areas and powder for soft water areas. The pods leave a layer of slime behind that builds up over time leaving a sludge that not only becomes a breeding ground for mould/ mildew/fungus/bacteria which create nasty smells, it also goes into your laundry and therefore on you. The fungus will also go into the open pores of cast aluminum drum spiders and seems to weaken them causing the spider to eventually crack/break. Oh.. and the slime from these pods will also deposit themselves in your tumble dryer clogging up the drain holes leading to the pump. Hope that helps..
We've had a simillar model for over a year now. I'm feeling the same about the water level. It doesn't seem to be enough water there! Furthermore our washing hardly ever smell like it's been washed. Despite using various detergents the smell of freshly washed clothes hardly ever exists and if it does, it doesn't linger for long.
I have a modern one WV5-1409W, 1 and a half is quick for a front loader water gets me mentally not seeing as much but it does clean really good dont know how they do it but science what bugs me more is it has a dual inlet but almost never takes hot and when it does it's like 100ml not enough for warm water to even get to the pipe like yo I have a heat pump basically free hot water but it wants to use the element.
OMG, they are NOT hard to service. Me, an older woman that isn't too techy.....I watched a video on youtube and replaced a failed pump in one....working on them isn't a problem...it's other things that are a problem.
Quite an informative video. I am confused about whether to buy a washer dryer combo or separate. Any guidance you can give? Living in the UK/Ireland, I am seeing combo is a common thing here.
When I look up reviews on front load washers I will see bearing failure as one of the primary reasons why their machine did not last but a few years, I was wondering if any of those people overloaded their washer without really knowing they did it, One time I heard a loud banging downstairs that resonated thru the whole house like someone taking a jack hammer against the furnace, went downstairs and our front load Samsung was banging against the dryer as it was shaking back and forth while in its high speed spin cycle , I stopped it and asked my wife, what are you washing in there a bowling ball ? NO, just those two small rugs from the bathroom ! I opened the washer door to take the rugs out and yes there were both small, but when those rugs were wet they felt like each one weighed 20 lbs , a few months later the washer failed, I took it apart intending to fix it but parts cost made repairing it not a practical option , the spider bracket that holds the drum was a still in good shape with minimal corrosion ,but had cracks in several spots which no longer kept the drum turning level and allowed it to wobble and do all the damage, I believe that over loaded wash load led to my washers failure,
My control panel failed (selector knob not working, cant even use screw driver to turn the selector stem with knob off). Quoted $500 parts/labor to fix. Could I replace control panel myself relatively easily?
I fixed it myself! Control panel not broken, I think the vibration of the washer caused a loose connection and once I took it apart and put it back together it worked!!!!
Bought this and companion dryer based in part on your review. I agree, this thing barely uses any water. My main complaint is the water hammer in my pipes when the valves close abruptly - I added water hammer arrestors to the back of the machine and it's better, but not totally mitigated.
I just replaced my 15 year old front loader Whirlpool Duet. I loved it and thought it cleaned great until my new LG 3500 series front loader showed me differently. I read and re-read the instructions and loaded it up to capacity. It was not overloaded, but held a lot of laundry. I had my doubts as to how it would clean that large a load but was amazed. The clothes were cleaner and softer as well and I only use vinegar as a softener. But, I have a question. Is there an efficient way of doing small loads? I prefer to wash more often rather than letting a huge hamper full of clothes to collect. I am still a bit confused on how to do a small load without having the machine run for a super long time.
2-4 articles of clothing is perfect for a 15 minute speed-wash. But even smaller loads will take at least 50 mins on this machine. You can reduce the time by selecting the lowest soil setting.
I have a older LG with a heater and love it! Mine is a 2007 model wm2455 , it has water plus option , when it bits the dust, I am looking to get a speed queen front loader, maybe by that time they would have one with a heater! Thanks Steven from Texas
2 months ago I called my mom to se how she was, she was at the laundry mat doing laundry cause her 6y/o Samsung washer broke. She did not have the $$ to fix or replace it. I ordered this for her, and got it installed. Mom is 72, she cant be going to the laundry mat to do laundry. She loves it, says it cleans better, quieter, and uses less water than her old one. it's been 2 months now issues with it, but I did get an extended 5 year warranty for it. I paid $650 on sale + warranty and well worth that price.
i have this model washes very good but the cycles take long because it does not have turbo wash which helps soak the clothing with soap and water. this washer soaks the clothing by filling the drum with water. i wish they would have put turbo wash on all the lower price models and the 360 turbo wash on the more expensive models.
I was search LG washer on RU-vid and I wish I found your video early. I got the wm3400cw, my cloth smell like stink after normal cycle. 65 min. if the cloth not stink and it will stink later after store in closet. very disappoint. which model you think is the most cleanest for lg washer. I will exchange it. I want to get wm4000hwa, but worry outcome will be same. thank you
I understand the feeling that you have about the water level. I was watching how it washes the clothes to check it out since we just got it today and found it weird that it didn't really soak the clothes at all. I thought it was a concern since the top loader washer that we have came with the house and it's a very old washer that didn't usually fill the tub even when we had it set on the large load. I just hope it still cleans well and that the detergent doesn't stick to the clothes
I bought this model a year ago. I paid over $1,100. It does not clean at all. It barely gets your clothes wet. Half way through a cycle, I could see dry areas on my clothes. You can't wash a king size quilt. I did two 2 hour cycles and it was just as dirty coming out as going in.
How do you access the diagnostics to see what is wrong with it. My is getting off balance often. I did not have that problem with my kenmore. I think one of a shock absorbers is bad but want to be sure.
I've seen negative reviews on this machine about not being able to see the LCD screen read out..not able to see settings. Any reply would be apriciated.
Use a flashlight. These perform so well I'd happily use a flashlight if I didn't have a bright laundry room. Thankfully it was trivial to change out the cheap builder provided fixture with a bright LED light where my washer is so I have no problems reading the display. However it is annoying they use dark text on a black background and worthy of criticism. Stupid designers. Still not enough to avoid getting this machine. I'd print my own labels if it was between using this machine or having to get another.
How many shipping bolts does this washing machine come with? I am experiencing an issue where this washer is shaking uncontrollably to the point where its almost trying to escape! I saw some reviews that this was a common issue. I am not certain if my installer forgot to remove some shipping bolts or if its due to a manufacturing issue.
If your washing comes out smelling of washing powder thats a good thing, right? And 90 min wash times are pretty standard in europe- in fact thats at the quicker end of things!
I've had this washer for 5 days. Done maybe 6 loads. I agree that the display is hard to read, I use a flashlight to read it. It seems to clean very well but when it's in the spin cycle the noise it makes is unbelievable. I want to hold on to it to keep it from shaking apart. I thought it had something to distribute the load to balance it out. Will do a couple more loads before calling Home Depot.
@Isaac Joby John A Whirlpool is easier to get parts for though. As far as front loaders go they all tumble clothes the same way. Whirlpool gets excellent scores for cleaning in CU. That was one of the reasons I originally got the Whirlpool WFW6620, but also because they are a US brand and have been very reliable appliances in my usage and experience over the years .
Any thoughts on adjusting the pressure switch to in crease the water level? Any long term issues with doing that? Do you think the extra water is a plus for getting the clothes cleaner, or do the long cycles make up for the lack of water?
Would you be able to show us how to replace the paddle for this washer.Mine recently broke on one corner and I cant seems to find a video on how to do it with this particular model online .
Love your channel, ive subscribed,i have a LG front loader same as this, its started making a noise not always but when it does it sounds like a pump struggling but it starts near enough as soon as i press go,any ideas? And is it a diy job? Kind regards scott UK
Hi, we dont have a overhead tank in our house. could you please help me with the below query. can we use the normal muncipal water pipe connection for the washing machine. is it causes any damage to machine.
What is a reasonable time for a washer? I just bought this exact one today. Unfortunately, $795 in Canada, but, is there a reasonable life span of a washer?
What’s your opinion of the best washing machine and dryer. Looking for a family of 4 typically laundry done every 2 weeks. We’re looking for a machine that will clean really well, that’s the number one priority and something that will have great endurance/last long. And ofc energy usage is also another thing. Seems like this machine has all that- the cons you listed especially the water and smelling like tide. However, given we’re in 2020 do you have any other recommendations that maybe be better and compensate for the things lacking in this. Also is stainless steel design better or doesn’t really matter? Thanks so much loved your channel, been researching about washing/dryer machines and haven’t been able to find something reliable you have so much knowledge about this!
D.A. Arthur we have used front loaders in Europe for decades. Nobody has had a top loader since the seventies, they simply don't exist here anymore. We don't get slime. If you are getting it it's because you are using liquid detergent which is a nightmare for any machine, and not doing a occasional very hot wash. Plus, it's important to leave the door open when not in use.
I don’t understand stand why you said this wash disappointed you in such a great way, but then you say it dose a pretty good job at cleaning and you recommend buying it.
Joseph Folsom Get the very basic Miele, around £500 to £550. Doesn't have too many features that you don't need anyway, but will last you at least 20 years.
Lolz. This is an American model. In Thailand, I got an 8kg (that's bigger) with steam, Wifi control, 'AI' detect on some cycles, it only takes cold water (heater inside) and the price about $420 US ;) Sweet machines - my 9 year old Samsung was great, but the finish got really tatty, plastic went brown/silver knob finish wore off, rusty screws... but the DD drums are stunning. I ALWAYS add at least one extra rinse for bedding and towels... to counteract the lack of water ;)
Bigger? no way. This is a 4.5cu ft VOLUME machine that is 127 litres capacity. Your 8kg from Thailand most likely tops out at around 60+ litres or what the yanks would call 'compact'. So in terms of capacity yours is HALF as big as this one.
I am thinking to buy the WM3500CW next week. Could someone tell me the exact outer diameter of the drain hose where it goes in to the waste drain. I live in an older apartment and the drain stack is 1.5" diameter and cannot be changed. Will this drain hose fit in???? Help!!
That's what I did with my LG washer that I bought in February 2012. After owning a Frigidaire from loader for 13.5 years, I was disappointed in how little water the newer front loaders used. The Frigidaire front loader I bought in 1999 had a smaller drum (3.1cubic foot), but the door was smaller than the drum (unlike most of today's models, where the door is almost as big as the drum), and the drum filled a third of the way up the drum. So you knew it used enough water. The lightest load used 18 gallons, and the heaviest used up to 27 gallons of water. The timer was mechanical, and had 7 cycles: Regular (heavy,, normal and light), Permanent Press (normal and light), and Delicate. It also offered a separate prewash cycle, though I didn't like the prewash on the Frigidaire, because I had to reset the washer to start the regular cycle. On the LG, at least it was included in the cycle, if I pressed prewash. The old Frigidaire had a wash, spray rinse during the draining of the wash water, then 3 rinses, and the longest cycle was only 50 minutes. On my LG with a 3.6cu.ft. drum initially filled to barely cover the bottom of the drum, leaving too many of my clothes dry. I have mine set so it fills to the top rim of the drum. I can still open the door to add clothes, if needed. Since I only use the normal cycle, I add another rinse, so it does 3 rinses, instead of 2 by default. Because of that, the shortest time is 1 hour, if I select light soil. My next LG will have the turbo wash.
@@davenwin1973 I adjusted water level on my LG and love it. Mine has turbowash. Normal cycle ( hot water) with turbowash and extra rinse takes 45 minutes. I bought it in 2013. No mold or bad smell issues and I noticed the window never gets gunky after adjusting water level. My adjustment is also subtle, so I can still open the door during wash. On rinse it fills a little above drum lip. It made huge difference in washing quality.
@Youll Never Know Your telling me something I already know. I have never liked Samsung. I am 100% for LG. I want him to do a review of that washer because I own the thing, and I want his opinion of it.
Have you reviewed the pedestal top load baby washer? I'm finding it quite useful, though I suspect it may use more water than the front loader above it.
