Thanks for the shout out!! These are handy tools used by locksmiths on a daily basis, if it saves you time it makes you money!! I'm a fan of the hollow set myself, but use the one with screw cap daily for last year. The larger diameter end is for some odd-sized cylinder caps. I've used a rolled up a business card as an emergency follower.

In a pinch I have used an AA / AAA Battery, cardboard rolled up, paper rolled up as followers.

I've used rolled up card stock in a pinch for a funky sized garage door cylinder, but drill bits are great when you don't have the right sized follower.

Thx to HKS once again. Nice Video Jason. I have the HPC nesting set, and the Gumby set from Bobby Keys. I also made a six piece set from a selfie stick.

What ever I have laying handy on the bench. I’ve used wood dowel, deep well socket in a real pinch. Try to use the actual followers most of the time. Gonna get one of those cap tools because the one I have is cheap and wore out.

A comprehensive review. I just learnt a heap about the rear on cores, Thanks for that, never seen so many different ones. As emergency follower I've used wooden dowel and batteries

BTW, from what I understand, Lock Monkey Tools are designed by a guy in Ontario Canada.

I totally agree with your opinion on the master pin removing follower. They only work in certain situations and you can't be absolutely sure it dropped all the master pins every time. You had that one cylinder where one or more top pins weren't going back up into position when you rotated the follower because of sloppy tolerance in the cylinder. In that situation just slide the follower through the cylinder further. The ramp angle at the rear of the large groove in the follower is more gradual and you can usually get the sloppy top pins to go back up into place. The thing still causes enough occasional problems that I rarely mess with it anymore.

For a long time I used the cap from one of the SuperLube/Master Lock PTFE oiler pens as an improvised follower. I just cut a notch in the top and pulled the pocket clip off. It was very useful as part of a pocket size repair kit.

The only master pin removal tool I use is the brass one. For the same reason that the red one jams where you can't flip it around nor push it back thru. I got those same followers from American Key Supply when I bought the Commercial/Residential rekeying bundle. It didn't come with a pin tweezer thou.

Looks like a great set there Jason. Be good to get it just for the 2in1 stainless steel removable cap tool. Better than the black sparrows one. Have a great weekend to you and kim 😁👍

Desperate improvised plug follower you say?? How bout the cover of a pocket notebook; rolled up - then used -carefully- to re-pin a cylinder! The ONE time I needed a wonky follower, and didn't have it. I do like those DIY followers you have.. Also that shmancy-pants stainless steel tail cap remover! Stay Awesome!

Hi Jason thanks for taking the time to do this video. Very educational, thanks HKS, very generous donations. I am due a delivery of an Lab 003 Mini Pinning kit, shouldbof been yesterday , but got stung by a customs charge of £26.09 . So a lot in shipping . Thanks for taking the time to do this video, I wonder just how many people, thought you only need the one plug follower before watching this video. So how many end cap removal tools are there ? No not heard of lock monkey before, I have seen the videos of Trunk Monkey. I bet a lot of people would want one of them. So versatile. Alarm for the vehicle, daughter protection, from randy boyfriend, lol. So if whoever hasn't seen it Google trunk monkey. But warning be prepared for a giggle. Sorry distracted, thanks again HKS, for being generous. Thanks again Jason, for doing this video to help pass on your knowledge. Speak, well electronic ly during the Saturday morning live. #Lockforce.

Schlage has dual end tool, Weiser too as shown in the vid, LAB also, and I believe they OEM the tool for Schlage. ESP Makes a tool to remove to rotate the cap and tailpiece for KIK cylinders on A series lock. Major makes a tool that combines both the functionality of the ESP tool one side and a cap installer/ remover on the other side. The best tool are made out of steel.If you can afford it go with that.

Jason got a "Lock Monkey" on his back, LOL... I have seen the brand on only a couple of sites and eBay although they tend to be a quality tool based on those I have used, and I absolutely agree... much prefer a hollow thin wall follower except in the event there is a tail piece with a particular notched profile

Great review and info Jason. I recently bought coloured followers from pick pals in Australia but dont think they were branded and certainly did not come with a case. I'll have to have a look at them later to check. Have a great Friday. :)

I once used a piece of paper rolled up. It barely worked. I need to catch up :) I missed the details on the entries until just now.

Could you not use The other end of the stainless to ol to get the cap off to b160's with the plug in there?
@hoppskippity
@hoppskippity 4 года назад
I use the lab version of the stainless steel one and if this one is the same design, the larger end does work for the b160s but I was wondering the same thing.

Nice review Jason. As someone else commented, the larger end of the stainless steel should be able to remove b160 caps. Please let us know!

To me it’s easier to take the two seconds to take my impact driver and just take all the cylinders out of the housing it’s way more awkward dealing with the entire deadbolt like you said just pull all the cylinders out take them to your truck and leave all the housings stuff their respective doors

Anyone in here wanna save my neck? I have a synagogue (I’m an Orthodox Jew been in the field for five years) they have concealed rod panic device with a rim cylinder and they want me to somehow make a mechanical lock to function as the trim so congregants can gain access without a key. I’m thinking if a modify a kaba 2015 somehow and mount it however I can figure out maybe but I don’t want to waste their money buying it and then it doesn’t work because cherry on top I’m doing this work for free no charge and they’re buying the parts from the supplier I’m not profiting from this just doing it because I feel it’s the right thing to do and I’ll maybe get High holiday seats but in all seriousness I’m going crazy trying to solve this issue anyone with any ideas feel free to let me know

Do I recall correctly, that can't can't use keys on a certain day, maybe it is considered a tool? I have heard of a locksmith that installs a lot of mechanical combo locks (non eletronic), such as a simplex for religious purposes. But I don't have a clue if this can work in your application with verticle rods?
