Thanks to your video, I’m not tempted to buy it. I have an iPad Pro 12.9and I’ll bet getting an Apple pencil for my birthday. Since the Logitech Crayon is not compatible with my iPad Pro and it’s not pressure sensitive, what’s the point? I’m guessing that at some point, someone will make a real competitor to the Apple Pencil.

I think this is a perfect set-up to announce an Apple Pencil 2 for the upcoming new iPad Pros. It'll probably have that instant pairing tech, pressure sensitivity, & be more expensive than the first Apple Pencil. I just hope it works with the 2018 iPad I got. 😅

Everyone complaining about the Pro compatibility and the price are obviously not aware of who this was made for. This was made for educational markets where they buy it in bulk and would only be buying the cheap 6th gen iPad for schools.

That is the raison d'etre for the Logitech Crayon, indeed. However, the concern you are seeing is that Apple artificially restricted the use of the Pencil competitor to the base iPad model. There is no valid technological reason why Logitech’s educational device should not also work with the Pro - it is purely for anticompetitive reasons. Logically, anything and everything that works with a base model iPad should also work with Pro models.

We are aware of what and who it was made for. That doesn't mean we can't be mad at the fact that Apple deliberately did this so people would have to pay for the Apple Pencil. I own the 10.5" iPad Pro strictly for university, I don't need the artistic features that the Apple pencil has, I would much prefer to get the cheaper alternative, but it doesn't support my iPad Pro for no other reason than to make me go out of my way and spend $149 AUD on the Apple Pencil. ~.~

Nah, iPad Pro compatibility is fine but the pressure sensitivity is not, remember, this is still a $70 gadget, it’s not cheap.

Dereck Gutierrez No. Apple Pencil already supports pressure sensitivity and works with all iPad Pros (1st and 2nd generation) as well as 6th gen (2018) iPads. This Logitech stylus is inferior in all aspects. It is clearly designed for students taking notes on a 6th gen iPad. No pressure sensitivity means that it is practically unusable for illustration purposes (you cannot change line width by applying pressure).

@@Bottomdweller No, I know all of that. I'm talking about a new Apple Pencil being released alongside the new iPad Pros. I know it does all that does already- but this thought came into my mind because the Crayon works with the 6th gen iPad WITHOUT needing Bluetooth connection. Maybe a new Apple Pencil will be released where it can seamlessly work on the new iPad Pros.

Dereck Gutierrez I see your point. Apple pencil uses Bluetooth Low Energy (4.1) and is actually hassle-free. You pair it once and then you are good to go. But we definitely need an Apple pencil 2 with a cap holder, battery status LED, and a female connector.

Bottomdweller Yup, & if this Crayon has a couple of innovations greater than the Apple Pencil, its sequel should surely get them too. And not that many people have multiple iPads, but being able to use one Apple Pencil across other iPads without having to pair is at least a little bit nifty, lol. I just hope it’s not much more than $100, because $70 for a close alternative doesn’t seem to make much sense. They could use a big price difference to really sell you on the pressure sensitivity.

I honestly love the crayon better than the pencil! Very easy to use and you always gotta find the double tap button on the pencil. For students who are just taking notes, it’s easy and I don’t think it’s worth the extra bucks.

Timo Birnschein 30$ more, but this device is much more suited for schools. You can't remove the tip without a tool. You can break off the thing while it's stuck insided the ipad. Etc It's designed for educational use. And it's designed to be suited to the abuse it gets there.

tbh im using logitech for drawing it isnt bad its handle is smooth and the drawing is fluent to me, the fact that pressure sensitivity doesnt matter to me. You can still draw as good as you are even without pressure sensitivity. Also the charge is quick. edit: Plus I barley even use pressure sensitivity, pressure sensitivity is only really useful to me when i want to shade or want to have a diffrence in sizes. On really rare occasions i would even have to use pressure sensitivity. I still think you should buy Logitech if you want to spare a couple of dollars. Fact: You dont need pressure sensitivity to be a good artist. In my opinion you should find a pen that is comfortable in your hands instead of features, thats the thing I worry about.

you make some good points. However, the Logitech not having pressure sensitivity is a MASSIVE deal-breaker. While your specific artstyle may not require it, almost all creatives use pressure sensitivity. So the market is very limited. I disagree that it is a good pen for starters either cause a uniform line is gonna take all the joy out of writing/drawing for novice artists. It may actually be killing the careers of prospective artists. There's a reason why the apple pencil is one of the best products in the digital-art industry. Just cause it's cheap should not be the selling point. If you are already an artist, 99.9% of the time you'd want a pressure feature. If you're a learner, just use pencil and paper, tried and true. While the crayon does seem cheap and cute and functional, it is absolutely NOT a product for art. You'll find much cheaper 3rd party alternatives that offer virtually the same thing.

Didn’t compare how long the Legitech needs to fully charge whereas the Apple Pencil has a quick charge function (15sec for 1hr use?) Besides the pressure sensitivity, the Apple Pencil also has almost no lag when writing notes which I have tested in English, Chinese and Japanese. I write more often than I draw on my iPad 6 with Good Notes. I am not quite sure about holding the rectangular shape for long period of time. I solve the slippery round body of Apple Pencil by taking the rubber sleeve from a $2.5 Pental gel pen. Thx for the video :)

If you can't afford to pay for the apple pencil, this is a great alternative. The shape is awesome. The fact that there is no pairing needed is amazing and it does the job for note taking excellently. Really happy I bought this device. I like the fact that it won't roll of a table because of its shape.

I have an 2018 iPad and since I've bought my Apple pencil 2 weeks ago I've only had to pair it twice. Daily use. Most of the time it connects automatically and you don't have to press a button to turn it on like the logitech.

I live in Israel, and here the Apple Pencil costs about 200 dollars, or even more. I can't order it because I will pay impprt task. For me the Logitech Crayon would save about 150 dollars. Thats for everyone that said it's too expensive to be worth it. And, will it work with every app the apple pencil works with? And more specifically, does it work with notability?

The fact that the Logitech crayon doesn't require pairing kinda clues me into how the Apple pencil works for a long time I had the assumption that it was an active stylus that uses its Bluetooth connection for the same type of inside out pressure sensitivity that Wacom and the other big players offer I think the L Crayon has the active portion down and I kinda makes me want to experiment with other active stylus on these ipads. Because I think the Magic is in the screen digitizer not the pen itself

Got my crayon for 4 bucks and some change tonight @ target. Couldnt beat this deal as it originally was gonna be 75, even the worker said i had a deal haha. So far i like it. Im not an artist but i do journal, take notes for school, and i love doing number coloring on my ipad so im happy to have this pencil in addition to my apple pencil gen 1. Hey Jeff. I'm a little late here, but thanks for this. I have a 2018 iPad with Apple Pencil 1, and am currently thinking about the new 2019 Mini 5. I know I could use the Pencil on the new Mini, but was revisiting options for a low-cost alternative :-) Two things: maybe in the future less redundancy? And the demonstratively repeated pointing at what you're talking about could be a bit less - it's almost distracting at times. Otherwise, thanks again.

The idea was to have Apple Pencil with half a price and a design suitable for kids (it was strictly limited to school usage). So, originally announced price was $59. And also limited compatibility (6 gen.) was targeting to schools because it should be the cheap tablet for education with pencil support. The pressure sensitivity is not an issue when you consider it for taking notes, drawing scatches, schemas and so on by kids. Also, the difference in charging connector female on Crayon (vs. male on Pencil) seems better and safer for me when used by kids. Plus is also switch on/off button which may saves the energy. Anyway, in Switzerland, the price is given to 79.90 CHF compare to Apple Pencil from 99 up to 109 CHF. So, the question is if to give a chance to Crayon and save 20 to 30 CHF or buy full functionality with Pencil.

When u cant keep d pencil below the ipad as it might roll down from the top of table, u change it to right side of ipad to avoid roll off as it might get more surface area and time to avoid roll off of the table.

This is a product designed for the 2018 iPad for Students and Educational purposes. Schools also get them for cheaper and they are used with children. Also, if a school had got the students the 2018 iPad without the Logitech crayon, parents could buy it with the education pricing for around $49 USD as an optional tool. The logi crayon is designed specifically for children, that explains the bulk design. The Crayon doesn’t need pressure sensitivity as it’s mainly for children but it is sad to see Apple didn’t add it, but they did try and make the crayon cheaper compared to the Apple Pencil. The Logo crayon will not connect to the iPad Pro unfortunately but seeing as it is the Pro, you are better off with the Apple Pencil.

Does it feel better for writing? A major complaint about the Apple Pencil is that feels like you're writing on glass and it's super slippery. People usually resort to putting a matte screen protector which makes the device look like ass. Does it have more traction? Does it come with different tips to give it harder/softer feel?
