Today I reviewed the NooElec L-Band patch antenna which is supplied in the form of a Bundle, which includes cables, connectors and a Low Noise Amp (LNA) and filter combination known as the Sawbird IO.
With this kit you can receive signals from the Inmarsat satellites.
I performed a review of the bundle decoding various Classic Aero signals in the 1.545 GHz band.
I used the NooElec SMArtee Software Defined Radio for the tests, and tuned the SDR using SDR#.

As always, thanks for watching the Frugal Radio (FR) channel!

I made a similiar expierence with the RTL-SDR Patch antenna, it brings signals to the top of the SAT spectrum. Thank you for your very interesting videos, keep up the good work!

I'm glad you've been playing with the satellite signals. Now the equipment is so readily available, I hope others join in too! Thanks for the kind comments.

Great Video Rob. Think i'll purchase the RTL-SDR patch antenna through the link in your review video, I see they are in short supply so I'm hoping to get one of the last ones. Now I have my SDRDUO up & running now all I need is the time to play 😊. I've just spent this weekend putting up 7 x new Antennas & cabling them all in using very low loss LCU400. 1 x HF Multi Band Long Wire 1 X HF CP6 Multi Band Vertical 1 x 6 Db VHF ( 140 - 300 Mhz ) for general VHF coverage 1 X 9 Db VHF tuned to 131.550 for Acars 1 x 9 Db VHF ( 150 -170 Mhz ) for our VHF trunking networks 1 x UHF 12 Db 400 - 500 Mhz 1 x Diamond D130J 25 - 2000 Mhz Broadband coverage Ant. Time to get the Sat antennas done next. I'm going to do the Inmarsat L-Band Patch Ant I'm thinking of mounting it in the middle of an adjustable sat dish & I'll cable it down in very low loss LCU400. And a Ku band LNB & depending whats on Ku band of any interest these days ( hopeing to find some Aust ATC Aero comms ) I'll go out & source a stable Ku band LNB. In a few weeks I'll have a nice shinny new 12M lattice mast with a tri mast head. Anyway old mate keep up the great work, pardon the pun but the skies the limit. 🤣. Rgs Wayne.

Sounds like a really pro set up Wayne. Definitely get yourself hooked up with some L band gear. Will be interesting to find out if those ATC comms are still broadcast on Ku band!

So do those aircraft use said sattalite when flying over oceans out of reach of line of sight ground stations correct?
@FrugalRadio
@FrugalRadio Год назад
Yes, oceans and large areas not served by VHF like major areas of Canada, Australia, South America etc. There is quite a bit of overlap as well - often the signals will still be delivered via SATCOM even when the aircraft is within ACARS / VDL range.
