Oh man… I have been on disability for chronic pain due to auto immune pancreatitis for 12 years now (at age 40, that’s quite a long time, sigh). I know exactly what you mean when you say you look “normal”. People always tell me “you look so healthy, you must be recovering”. All the while, I’ve got 10mg oxycodone 3-4 times a day and a 50ug/h fentanyl patch on my body… It’s rough man. I hope you feel well while reading this. Even a few minutes of not feeling bad is worth gold. You really start to appreciate the little things, when the big things are broken… Lots of love from The Netherlands!

Thanks for sharing your story. I totally get it. Life is so precious. I used to use oxycodone and fentanyl and pretty much EVERY other opiod for my pain. I didn't realize how much of ME it was robbing for a very long time. Slowly I kept needing more and more and more of the pain killers until I just couldn't live that way anymore. If you ever get to the stage where you think you would rather not live with the side effects that come with those opiod pain killers consider talking to your doctor about Suboxone aka Buprenorphine. It hits the opioid receptors in the brain but it isn't actually an opioid. It was initially made to help heroine addicts kick the addiction but it works for chronic pain too. Since making this video I had had my knee replacement replaced too - on Dec 1, 2021. When they were doing the surgery they found that the old replacment had come loose in my knee, and had been that way for a LONG time. No wonder my pain was over the moon. Now just over 3 months with a proper new knee I am doing a lot better. I also just had a procedure for my arthritis in my back that should ge giving me greater pain relief in that are in the next two months or so. I cannot imagine the risk that you felt with COVID - haivng your immune system functioning at far less than normal would mean that you are at much greater risk of all sorts of viruses and other infections. I hope you have a strong group of people that you are close to that you can trust are also being very careful. We humans need to have other people close to use in order to live well. The only reason I share my chronic pain conditions is becasue I know that there are a lot of other people out there who also are living with chornic pain and we are invisible to the world, and even sometimes to our loved ones we are far from understood. they just don't get it - they simply CANNOT really empathise with us and understand what it is we are going through. but they can care. So I hope you have people near you who care deeply for you.

Glad you found my channel. I have been doing close up pictures for a couple of years now, they get more compliments than anything else I do. QSP is definitely one of my top 5 favourite brands.

Hi Jake! I plan also to grind the flipper but I'll keep half of it. It will give me a good finger choil and I won't loose the flipper. (My english is not perfect so forgive me if I did mistakes.) Very good video...as usual!

(Drool) truly a work of bladesmithing at its best. The steel is overkill for the little amount of cutting that I use a knife for. The blade profile is kinda Enlan-ish. You said the blade length is 3.913" but the graphic came up as 2.913". And if anybody is wondering, Jake does look out for his Patreon supporters. Thanks for sharing, Jake.

I do make typos. Sadly I cannot fix it now, unless I take down the video and put out a brand new one. But then people get upset with me for wasting their time by making them watch something they already watched. The joys of making mistakes...

I share your opinion the strange flipper and choil. Brilliant idea to shot details of the knive. Thank you.

I understand you sir I have had chronic pain for 23 years on opioids since it started because of a herniated disk in my neck and now I have 4 herniated disks in my lower back and scoliosis. What knife do you like better if this is the 14c28n and the other is CJRB kicker I can't decide and need help?
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge Год назад
Between the Kicker and this Hawk, I would pick this knife the majority of the time. Generally I don't like carbon steel on my folding knives because the blade is spending a lot of time in a humid pocket next to my warm leg - it's a recipe for corrosion to set in, and since the blade is inside a handle it is easy to miss the early stages of corrosion in the pivot area and then you have all kinds of fun getting rid of it. I do like D2, but on fixed blades.

I'm 6 feet 1 inch tall. Do you think it will fit my hands comfortably enough to do work like cutting thick cardboard, etc.?. Tge s35 vn model. I have a sanrenmu 9001 and It's thin due to half g-10 and stainless steel combo. But I feel it's too small for my hands imo.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 3 года назад
I am just a little shorter than you but I have friends who are taller but have smaller hands, and I have friends who are shorter and have bigger hands. So height doesn't give any clear information regarding how well a knife will fit in a persons hand. I can tell you that I usually need to buy XL gloves (work gloves, winter gloves, etc) but sometimes L gloves work for me, it depends on who makes them. (that is between 9 and 10 in European men's glove sizes) Compare that with the size gloves you use and you will have a pretty reasonable answer for your question.

Why do they make knives with giant choils or no choil at all?
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 3 года назад
some giant choils are made for space to put a finger safely there for a grip closer to the cutting edge - for some extra leverage that is sometimes needed. No choil is less common, usually on fixed blade knives, and they do that so nothing can catch in the choil while cutting.

Isnt' the liner lock to thin? Also in penguin d2 it is very thin
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 2 года назад
I don't think the liner lock is too thin. For anyone who does batonning or such with a liner lock it may be too thin, but that's because liner locks are never designed for such use.

S35vn is a Crucible patented steel. You had mistakenly put Carpenter. Be a few years before we see a version from them 😉. Hope things get better for you.
