Great video! This camera is still my favourite camera to go travelling with - even in 2019!

nice review. I don't mind the lack of articulating screen because I find it quicker to compose a shot and i'm not interested in selfies. I'm unhappy with panasonic's strategy to not include a mic and headphone jack. it seems like they want to pressure customers into buying larger models .

Agree. It is a bummer with the audio, especially since the G8 had an audio in.

Well I don't know. As an audio guy, things are getting smaller and lighter in my field as well. I mean even under $20 for a clip on mic that goes into your smart phone. Put it on the talent, clap your hands for a slate and off you go.

Definitely work arounds, but we try to minimize post as much as possible :) Have also had lots of probs with audio and frame drifts when doing dual audio in FCPX that I can't quite figure out.

This camera RULES. shouldn't be using audio off the camera anyway. by the way, those looking at this camera, the audio is really nice and full. you will be fine for vlogs or interviews if you don't want outboard audio. the non flip out screen is fine. i prefer the tilt...so much better. i'm a pro photographer, cinematographer and audio engineer of 25 years and i highly recommend this cam.

Totally agree - I have two of these. I'm also a pro tog/cinetog/audio engineer having been for 44 years, and there's far too much whinging about the lack of mic in/phones out, just do it properly and record separate audio on an audio machine. There are loads of tascam/zoom devices that are totally suitable, DR10 from Tascam springs to mind...

;) it's cool to study gear, but with everything, there is also far too much GAS ATTACK...Gear Acquisition Syndrome. More people need to be filming and editing more and not complaining or splitting hairs with gear. In the end, it's in you for the most part.

Hi, I am mainly interesting in using the GX85 for filming. So I just want to ask you about its touchscreen, i mean does it make no difference that it does not pop out completely like sidewards etc? I am new to making short films and so i ahve to ask :-) Thx

I want to buy a GX85 to compliment my Sony A6300. Sony will cover the low light and autofocus and the GX85 the stabilization. Can you advise me here, do you think the two cams will match in Davinci Resolve using RCM? I was thinking about just getting a second A6300 but a stabilized cam without needing a gimbal sounds like it would be a great combo.

I just buyed this camera and I'm really satisfied,I am a beginner for the picture but the camera look really great with lot of option and capacities. I think the only - is the autnomy,but looks like the major default on hybrid

I weighed up the pros and cons, and I agree RE: Articulating screen and audio in..... Flash bracket with smart phone running wi-fi app, OR £100 field monitor from Amazon... then a wee digital recorder on same rig. Not ideal, but it's a way to make it work. Then just whip it off rig when shooting on the street. ;)

...And still best in 2024... Just paired it with a Feiyutech AK2000 gimbal, and - combined with in-body and in-lens stabilisation - am making just stunning 4K videos with this little beast!

Great reviews I got this camera about 2 months ago. l love it. The only trouble I have is focusing when I shot videos. What is the best settings you use to keep things in focus.

I have a GH4 & GX85. They're complementary. Here's some reasons I love the GX85. Both involve portability & weight. Situations where a Mic isn't important and weight and size is. A) Social! Oh, I don't see on your list of equipment the Joby (?) tripod nor what ball head you're using.Most importantly, that nice loupe. Is that a Zacuto?

Are you going to pick up the G85? It would seem to fix all the gripes you are having, if you can handle a bit of extra bulk.

Yep. Planning to try the G85 as a replacement to our GH4 and keep the GX85 as a B-camera or lightweight stills cam.

How long does the battery last on video?

Wow, those clips are amazingly crisp and shine! What setting did you use in video mode? Any color profile? Or you just use custom? I'm struggling between this camera and G85, but i think G85 is too big to carry around Thanks

Hey there. Standard Profile and dialed down the contrast, saturation and sharpness -3, but then added it back in post using FCPX. We will probably buy the G85 because we really want the audio and to use it as a vlogging camera. If we were doing things without audio, then the GX85 would be plenty!

For my daily use, audio is not important element, but i'm concern about GX85 lacks CineD/V color profile, do you think we can get the same dynamic range/ color using custom setting and post editing? And did you use the kit lens on those bike clips?

+kukuhaldyanto the dynamic range seemed a little less than the gh4. Used the 12-35 in most of the clips.

Why the hoodman & gorillapod?! Have you tried the very cheap but good working mouth mount for gopro?

Loupe and gpod give added stability. Hard to achieve critical focus with the mouth mount.

I agree on focus. Though you might check the mouth mount with "hyperfocal" as well, works really smooth with gx85 on bike for me.

Guys please! How about the Battery life? How long does it lasts while filming? Please. What tipps do you have to extend it's life. Is there a difference in battery life between filming in 1080p and 4k? :)

Depends. Great for stills. For more video, I lean towards the G85.

@@FatTraction Canon G7x mk2 is pretty good stills and vid camera with image stabilization. Have used that on a lot of our ride videos.

I purchased a Lumix GX85 a few months ago and have been really happy with it so far, but I feel that I'm barely scratching the surface with its capabilities. Just out of curiosity, what lenses do you currently have that you use with the GX85?

12-35 is the most used, followed by 35-100. Just picked up the Leica 8-18 this year and it is nice!
