This review was based on a Panasonic TZ20. But apart from some differences in aesthetic design and possibly JPG engine colour profile difference , this is virtually the same camera as the Leica C-Lux. So if you are looking for a Leica C-Lux review, just replace "Panasonic" with "Leica" when you are watching it :)

Question: I realize this would void the warranty, but do you think it would be possible to flash the ZS200 with the Leica firmware and essentially have a functioning Leica? (Since they are basically the same camera.) If so, do you think there would be any benefit to using Leica's firmware vs. Panasonic's firmware?

@@napnip hi therem sorry i only just saw your message, probably a bit too late to reply but anyway, flashing Leica firmware... i would not really suggest trying that. Unless someone already did it and verify it's 100% safe, the risk is far higher than any improvement (if any) you may get from the Leica firmware.

Hi Richard, as one Aucklander to another - well done - nice review. I shot with the Fz1000 but it was getting to big to lug around all the time. i purchased the Tz220 a few months ago and have been amazed at the footage I get out of such a small form factor camera. Great choice when you need something small and easy to carry with you.

I watched a lot of review and this is by far the best review out there!! Thanks a lot. I just wish that when you compared the TZ90 and the TZ200 you would also show the full size photo and not just the crop. And one question: When enabling location with bluetooth (from the phone), do I need to start the Panasonic app or I can just leave the phone in my pocket and when I will turn on the camera and take a photo it will happen automatically? Also, what if I turn it on and take photo quickly.. will it still geotag the photo? Let's say I didn't turn off the camera immediately. GPS is the biggest issue I have with travel cameras these days and I was wondering if BT sort of solved it for me.

Great review Richard, especially liked your explanation about the trade off between a larger DSLR and TZ220 compact format - Zoom V Size V Sensor size etc. Well done, have now gone and bought one. I have a Nikon D750 full frame for home use and needed a good quality RAW image + long focal length in a small size just for travel, this Lumix does the job.

Hi Richard I am looking into differences between LX10 and TZ220 - I will be using it for video blogging indoor and outdoor plus indoor and outdoor photography. I am a bit worried about the 1/2 stop difference between cameras. will this make indoor - normal light work worse with the 220?

Hi Dean, I haven't got a chance to have the two cameras together. But looking at the footage, I think the 4k video from the tz220 is slightly better quality. But the camcorder has more features that the tz220 can't offer

I don't have TZ220 but ZS100. Can you tell me how to take high quality L image during videoing? Mine can only take S image from there. Also,other than the zoom range, what is the obvious different between ZS100 and TZ220. Image, video and low light performances quality which is better? How important to have F2.8 over F3.3 since it only function in close distant?

Hi . I really hope you can help with some advice on this camera. I didn't get a user manual with it and I cannot enable the digital zoom on the camera Ive tried in the menu but the digital zoom icon is blanked out . Hi Paul, from memory you can turn off the touchscreen autofocus and shutter but not completely disable the touchscreen. Is there a reason you want to have it completely disabled?

Hi Richard! Thanks so much for your note and information. I have a Canon G9X Mk II and it allows me to disable the touch screen. I find this very useful outdoors in very bright light (hiking, skiing, etc) where it is easy to accidentally touch the screen and cause changes to the settings. I love the touchscreen for setting things up and in certain environments but on the move outdoors in bright conditions, esp doing physical activities, I find it problematic and easy to accidentally touch the screen and cause changes. I prefer the relative safety of having buttons/dials then.

Hi Paul, i haven't use a G9X MkII, but with the TZ220, i actually have never accidentally changed any settings apart from autofocus point. Maybe go to a shop and give it a try as the Panasonic and Canon interface is quite different :)

yeah sure IS is definitely important and from memory the IS is 5 axis too and is quite effective. I didn't do extensive test so can't say how many stops effective it is.

Just two questions: The TZ90 has a 4:3 20 Mp sensor, versus the TZ200 with 3:2 20 Mp sensor. Cropping the TZ200 images to 4:3 the result is less than 17 Mp. The TZ90 has an advantage comparing the resolution in this test! You have not talk about the image stabilization. Reading the user manual the 5 axes stab doesn´t work in all 4k video modes; there is none stab recording in 4k video mode?

Sorry it's being a while since i did this review so can't really remember about the 4k video stabilisation. Re 17mp vs 20mp.. the linear resolution difference is less than 10% so the advantage is really quite minimal

Thought I'd go to the tz200 from Sony hx90. The TZ images were soft, no distinction, and the colours were just drab and I tried different settings. Comparing the two cameras the Sony came out on top for clarity and colour, easily. May be I'm unlucky as others are pleased.

I haven't try the hx90 but a bit surprised to hear your results. Maybe ask your camera shop or Panasonic as they should be very similar.

@@TheRealRichardWong I have had the hx90 for 3 years. It doesn't have the controls of the tz and the view finder is not sharp enough to focus well but the photo results are much better by far. Many reviews have spoken about a lack lustre image on the tz...regards.
