8LIFGR8 Gear Reviews
Welcome to our first Gear Review, where we will take a look at the RoadPro 12V Portable Stove, one of our favorite pieces of kit.
This little oven costs about $40 and warms up to 300F. This means you fill a standard bread foil pan with favorite food, cover the top in tin foil, put it in the oven 30 minutes before lunch and BOOM: No more cold sandwiches, you'll get to eat anything from your left over Dutch oven, pizza, tacos, you name it.

Lmao i used mine about 6 years. Simple trick if you use a metal tray put a little water in the oven then put in the tray. In 15 min ur food it super hot. Do the same if u want to cook meat that has not been cooked. Also wrap the metal tray with foil adds more cooking power. Doing it without water cuts your cooking power in half or more.

I have this and have used it driving cross country in my 2009 VW Sportwagen. I line it with a foil loaf pan which fits perfectly. I usually used it to defrost my frozen wraps that I made and froze at home and put into a large Coleman cooler...which I lined with Relective foil for insulation...kept frozen things frozen with 2 juice bottles (large) filled with water and some cold packs around the food, which sat on cookie cooling racks to keep the food away from the cooling bottles.

300 degrees is plenty for cooking anything raw, including chicken. It's just a slow cooker. Use it as a crockpot on a road trip, and you're good to go. Some are even only 180 degrees, and still work for that.

Do you have to keep your motor running while you’re using it? If not, how long can you run it on your battery without drawing too much power out of your car that it won’t start?
@ForgottenWaypoints

We've never run it for an extended period with the vehicle off, so I couldn't say. It's a pretty high draw though. We always just plug it in while we are on the road heading towards our lunch spot. It takes about 30 minutes in our experience to reheat your food.

I am concerned about the plug connection. it seems to me that the contact point must overheat the panel, to 15A. Did you notice anything?
@ForgottenWaypoints
@ForgottenWaypoints 4 года назад
Nope. The biggest worry is if your power supply is undersized you can blow a fuse. In fact, we used it yesterday to heat up a bunch of refried beans and cheese for soft shell burritos on the trail. They really hit the spot on that chilly spring day. I'll post a link when I upload the video. The exposed metal rim around the clasp gets warm to touch, so we made sure it wasn't around anything. And when we opened it, some condensation dripped and vaporized on the ban, so it was definitely hot.

The oven is aluminum lined and I just use tin foil to wrap my food or a tin-foil bread tin and cover it (to prevent spills due to the off roading bumps). Then we just plug it in and wait until we can smell the food, usually 30-40 minutes, and everything is ready to go. If some of our food does spill, such as gravy, it's best to clean it up form off the oven face while it is still hot. Once it sets, it's as hard to clean as a standard kitchen range.

I have a 2015 Honda Pilot and the cig port says 12V 120W max. Will the roadpro work?
@ForgottenWaypoints
@ForgottenWaypoints Год назад
120W is only a 10A fuse. To find the fuse size, divide the watts by the volts. So 120W/12V is 10A. In my testing, the oven was drawing over 11A and using 136W. Granted, some fuses can take some overload, so it might NOT blow, but that is very unsafe to run that way for long periods of time as it is a fire risk. Sorry, you'll need to run another circuit with heavier wire to safely run the stove.
@jeffreywhitaker5154

@@ForgottenWaypoints thanks for the reply. I went with the Sabotheat. It says it goes from level 1 to level 6. Level 6 draws 90watts and the heating plate says it gets up to 300 degrees. Does it produce enough heat that it could warm up the interior of a car while car-camping (in not terribly cold temperatures...maybe 10C/50f)? Would be great for double-duty.
@ForgottenWaypoints
@ForgottenWaypoints 5 лет назад
No, it's insulated. The tray on the inside will burn you if it's been running for an hour, but the outside plastic is just warm. (The metal is hot though). You don't want to run it without the car running anyway, so it's not a really good heater. But a great food warmer.
